I would advice the following:

Get all 5 tyres rotated.
Get them balanced and aligned from a specialist and not the MASS.
Brake pad cleaning would definitely help.
Do not touch up the paints till after the trip. Same for the rattles. Get both of these fixed at 20k service.

7. I would want them to check up front door minor rattles, but not sure of the fear that they might end up causing more rattles.
1) When did you do the job last? 5-7 k kms both the setting will hold good. Yes better done outside at a professional wheel alignment shop.
2) Again how many kms since last rotation 5-7 k kms is a good time, all 5 wheels if you have the same size and thread pattern.
3-4) Is there any issues? Otherwise dont bother.
5) Good idea to check and clean, if possible.
6-7) Wait for next service after the trip.

1. Tyre alignment, balancing and rotation has not been done yet.
2. AC Vent - When I shift from Inside Air to Fresh air or vice versa there is some odour for some some time. Thought AC vent cleaning might help.
3-4. Air Filter - I haven't driven any other swift diesel apart from mine so I am not sure about this, but I feel that there is a slight drop in acceleration. That Turbo feel is missing slightly but this might be all psychological.

There isn't much wearing of running tyres but its sure going to be more than spare tyre. Which tyre should I get replaced with spare tyre. And since mine is a Ldi it doesn't have left OVRM as std, so I finally bought one from some shop for Rs 400. Will be getting that fixed too.

Thanks Jaggu & Eddy.

1) Go ahead with alignment, rotation and wheel balancing. The rotation sequence will be mentioned in the manual.
2) If the odor is due to dampness in the AC console cleaning might not really help.
3-4 Air filter cleaning is a simple job and go ahead.

Rs. 400 for an ORVM, Where did you buy it from? At MASS, it is priced around 1200-1300.

It sits behind the dash, yes it can be cleaned but its just matter of time before the smell returns, if you frequently use the ventilation mode. Again if its just dampness that causing the stench, its matter of few minutes of AC running for the smell to return.

I never use external ventilation mode and this has helped me to a great extent to avoid the leaves/twigs and what not entering the box, leaving a stench later on.

Last year when I bought this car, at MASS it was around 1400. At Grey market it was around 900. Around last month when I checked it in Mayapuri and Kashmere Gate, it was for 400 and I bought it.

@Jaggu - I use AC only in palces of high traffic. When on New Delhi roads, I switch to ventilation as the air outside is relatively fresh from rest of Delhi.

Little OT: I am also thinking of getting fog lamps, but I am not inclined towards original Lumax fog light. I wanted something more powerful, though original switch looks cool.

You can change the bulb in the fog lamps, to get more light.

My Swift DDIS completed 20K this week(In 6 months and 18 days) and has gone to its "native" for a service. Engine is still holding up fantastically and doing its job extremely well considering the load and stress its been through, 16K+ on the highways and at real high speeds. No issues with exhaust, smoke or power lag as other members have mentioned. However, the entire car rattles and the suspension makes abnormal noises. The service assistant blamed bigger tyres(I have 15" wheels) and door mounted speakers for the abnormal rattles and noises.Guess I am not that lucky after all. Came upto Rs.4750 for the entire paid service and Pratham Motors have done a fabulous job with the rattles and the suspension. I just got it back from service this evening and the ride quality, comfort and noise levels are comparable to when I rolled it out from the dealership in April end this year. Hope it holds up well though.

Got my swift Ldi

Hi guys

Got my swift Ldi yesterday. It's in sunlight copper colour and looks great.

I read a lot of talk about the LHS OVRM here. My car already came equipped with one. Looks like Maruti has finally got some sense in this regard.

One request please. As the car doesn't come with a tachometer, can jaggu or any other swift owner please fill me in on the kmph /1000 rpm figures for the car ?

Would appreciate any help.

in fifth gear, 1000 rpm~45kph. So when you are doing 100kph in 5th gear, it is little over 2000 rpm.

isn't 45kmph /1000 rpm a bit on the tall side ? My esteem went around 38kmph/1000rpm in fifth.

Or is it because you have lesser rpm range to play with in a diesel?

i wouldve loved to update this thread with 20k post, but my cars going real slow. now about 19300. also after 20k service done at 18k, and back to mineral oil, and indianoil diesel normal, i find the car really eager to give me the power when needed. so i am happy again. sometimes i did try turbojet, but barring the day i fill diesel turbojet, the days after that day the car behaves rather lacklustre. no real eager pulling exhibited. switch to normal diesel from indian oil and the story is much different!

@taz - wait until a few days and let me know if your rattles are really gone.

@d3mon - though i dont have exact figures and would not want to get too technical, i would suggest that as a general rule of thumb change the gear to next higher one, when you feel that you must (without stressing or revving the car more) and when you think the car would go to the next higher one easily without compromising on the speed going low due to that change.
