The bill seems to be on a high side. They have charged you for each and everything, for eg:- the clips. I was never charged for the clips.

2.5k for brake pads and drum cleaning is too much. I usually do it every 5k. Last time. I just checked by last service bill. I was charged 350rs.

Engine oil additive as well as transmission oil additive is not a must. If you opted for it then that is your choice.

That should not count towards maintenance charges.

So effectively the service was for 6K which involved changing of all the fluids and filters.

I wouldn't say that's bad. For my friends Alto they charged Rs.5500 for 20K service which involved throttle body cleaning and just 2 pads.

I avoid doing a wheel alignment / balancing at the service centre, if I can. I don't rotate my tyres.

Rs 350 for 3 wheel bolts is an extra service item.

You were charged 2.5K for break pads. They added additives to everything. You did wheel balancing and alignment there. You need to go shout at them for adding additives without asking you.

Hyundai Engine oil is 195 per litre. Dunno which brand they use.

Actually I was in Mysore with Tadu (you know for what don't you Prajesh )the day the car was left for service and delivery taken. I had no clue they were doing all that because dad took the car without informing me. And they did inform him over the phone is what he tells me.

Coming to think of it now, why would I not get wheel balancing, alignment, rotation done at the company? Getting it done outside would mean more time wasted, more money too because I have to travel to the other end of town for it.

Also what most people don't understand is that all these additives might not be required for the average Joe. But for those who drive pedal to metal all the time, trust me these additives do make a difference. I have seen it work on some cars personally. There must be a reason why they are used world wide and SMIL recommends them here.

I am actually not worried that the service cost me nearly 10k. What I am worried is about the perception people have that Swift's are cheaper to maintain. We have had many people shout out loud saying Skoda's are expensive to maintain. Somehow, these costs are on par with maybe even the Fabia? Yet none of us complain here because its a Maruti?

Though what did baffle me is that after so much localization, swift brake pads cost twice as much as an imported set for the baleno. And after paying so much, what you end up getting is a crappy engine (for enthusiastic drivers) that dies at 3,200 rpm and a car that rattles like a tractor. I wish my parents had bought the Getz instead, atleast I would have had a superb engine, better build quality and a big smile on my face even if I had to cough up a similar bills.

Actually, thats just me being plain lazy Benny. That address is our old address and that number has been disconnected . Regarding the registration number I never blank out my plates while posting photos either and always put my cell number on the forum for the convenience of the members to get in touch. I would have to be really unlucky to get kidnapped or have my car stolen. Actually I don't mind someone stealing the car, I can buy a getz .

@Rahul- Avoid getting wheel alignment from the center as they always charge double the amount. I get it done for only 200 including the balancing.
And people say TATA, Skoda and Ford services are expensive

Harry, IIRC rotation, balancing, alignment for the baleno normally costs me around 350-450. Add to that another 150-200 bucks for fuel to go up and down from my place as all good alignment shops are in the other end of town. But most importantly, to go elsewhere would mean enduring 2-2.5hrs of maddening traffic in Bangalore and then another hour or so waiting at the shop. Basically half a day gets ruined in this, I would rather let the service centre do this for the time it is parked at their place for other work as well. Basically its time management.

Like I said, I don't mind paying the costs, provided everything else in the car is perfect. I hear dad asked them to eliminate all rattles, but when I took the car out for a spin I could hear plenty of rattles, with probably 2-3 rattles missing. After paying so much, now I think I will have to get the whole thing damped and add ICE before I go mad/deaf (yes I am very finicky about sounds coming from the car). For that much I would have got a getz is what my point is and a lot less headaches.

2500 is for the brake pads replacement. It seems expensive. My 20K service costed me 4350 Rs.

@mclaren- the additives cost you Rs1000, the brake pads another 2000.
thats Rs3000 more than what a regular joe would have to pay.
also Delvac MX and the gear oil are slightly overpriced. and like some one else pointed out- they even charged you for clips and stuff- Cheapos!
You need to get on a PR offensive at your service centre.

In contrast- the guys at auto team here,fixed a big dent on the underside of my bumper and even painted it over for free.

I agree about the intercooler cleaning, makes a huge difference in performance. how much did they charge you for that? cost me Rs250 here.

Like dieselfan- my 20k service was pretty cheap. Rs 4000 or so.

Ripper, you aren't getting my point. I don't mind paying. My only issue is when I am paying this much to maintain a car I would like it to be equally good in other departments too. Then we have people posting reviews saying swift d maintainance is cheap, its not. Imagine, we at THBP might refuse the additives because we know what exactly they do. What about the average Joe? For eg, my dad was totally sold when they said additives will help engine life etc. I am sure same happens to every other person walking into the showroom.

No, I haven't got the intercooler cleaned on this. Though, did it on a couple of elantra's belonging to my friends. The difference could easily be felt. I normally get it done at my friends garage as a part of modding .

From my experience, I know that authorized service centers side step on jobs that are not easy to verify. It has been long since I went to any showroom based service center- thats another story. My service center never used to do wheel rorations and couple of times they didn't give the wheel alignment report, saying their printer is out. Eventually I caught them red-handed.

So, you know, if you wish to get everything perfect, better be a doubting Thomas. Seeing is believing!
