If this is actually true then it will be a big problem for folks outside Delhi NCR who hope to maintain their Grand Vitaras for some more years.

Maruti stopped selling Grand Vitaras in 2015. So legally they have to sell spares till 2025. I had forseen this situation, of non availability of parts, and did a major preventive overhaul last year. I am sensing that parts availability is slowly diminishing. Also, internationally the vehicle was discontinued in 2019 or so. So official parts supply in the international markets will dry up by 2029.

As the brake shoes are only for the parking brake you can go in for replacement parts from other brands. Many are now listed on Bodmo.

The part no is 54600-77K00. It is listed on Boodmo.
https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-brak...brake-4686081/

Though, of late, Boodmo is very unreliable in delivering stuff.

These are also available on PartsSouq:

Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP

Dear all

I am thinking of changing tyres for my Grand Vitara. When I checked with a few tyre dealers I found out that 225/65R17 AT tyres are hard to find.

Has anybody upgraded the tyres of Grand Vitara 2.4L from 225/65R17 to 235/65R17
Does it have any adverse impact on the Power Steering etc ?

Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP

Most owners of Grand Vitara 2.0 have moved from 225/70R16 to 235/70R16, without having any issue. Even in case of 225/65R17 to 235/65R17, the difference is less than 2% in diameter.

Go for it.

Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP

Hi Guys,

I just did a trip to Ladakh in the beginning of July 2024.

The route was Delhi - Manali - Jispa - Leh - Nubra Valley - Siachin Base Camp - Pangong - Tso Moriri - Jispa - Manali - Delhi.

I was driving the Grand Father - Grand Vitara 2.4L with my wife and 2 kids. Fellow team-bhpian @prateekswarup was driving the Grand Child - Jimny Alpha Manual with his wife.

We had a great 10 day trip to all of Ladakh. We had to encounter really bad roads, knee deep river crossings, many high passes which ranged from 16000 feet to 18000 feet including the Khardungla, Changla, BaraLachala, Nakeela, TanglangLa etc.

I did even put the Grand Vitara into 4LowLock at some occasions.

The old horse did well through the trip except for a Clutch issue which happens at high altitude and high engine temperature. It is a known issue only in the manual GV with an easy fix. I discussed the problem with the GM of Motorcraft, a rally driver and owner of GV 2.4 himself. He was aware of the issue and recommended an easy fix which we could get done in Leh.

I am sharing some pictures here, these are not in any order. Just random pictures of the Grandfather in the High Mountains of Ladakh.

The grand father looks so amazing that the grand child gets totally ignored. Nice to see that the car is in perfect condition. I see you are from gurgaon. How do you plan to keep it after 15 years

Hi Shiv

I stay in Delhi, the Grand Vitara is registered in Gurugram. It is 2012 registered so it has validity till Oct 2027. As it is pretty reliable I intend to keep it till then and drive it extensively over the next 3 years.

We have a small Grand Vitara Owners group in Delhi-NCR. Everybody's Grand Vitara is expiring in the next couple of years. Everybody is contemplating what to replace it with. Three of our group have replaced their Grand Vitaras with Jimny (That drove with us to Leh), A Honda CRV 2.4L AWD, and a VW Tiguan.

I still have 3 years to figure out what the replacement will be.

I know of a friend who re registered his fortuner in Uttarakhand to his native house and using it there. Caveat being that he cannot bring it to NCR. That gives him ten more years

The car seems to be in excellent condition! May I ask how many miles the GV has munched?
I'm surprised I have never seen one of these on the roads till now

Before this I had a 2007 2.0L Grand Vitara Manual which had done about 1.3Lakh Kms. I sold that off in 2021 when I bought this 2.4L Manual 2012.

This has done just about 70K kms and is in very good condition with original Clutch etc. The only thing I did before my trip to Ladakh was to get the Brake Shoes (Essentially only used for Hand Brake as all wheels have disc brakes).

I hope to drive it extensively over the next 3 years till it completes 15 years in October 2027.

Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP

I gave the GV for the first clutch replacement at 174000 kms. That is done, I will be taking delivery tomorrow. I didn't really needed to change it, but I didn't want to deal with unavailability of parts in future for the clutch.

Meanwhile, a new problem has cropped up. Last week I noticed that AC was ineffective sometime, but I didn't pay much attention since I was busy dealing with a family emergency.

However, the service advisors also noticed the issue while test driving the new clutch. Turns out the following parts are having issues:

AC Compressor (JB420W)
Compressor Assembly - 95200-64JB1
Clutch Magnet - 95210-64JB0

These are pretty expensive parts, 50K and 14K respectively from the SGP store. Is there a MGP option for these? The workshop manager was saying similar MGP parts are lot cheaper than these.

Anyone replaced these parts?

During my preventive overhaul in January 2023 I had got work done on the ac as follows:-
1. Ordered a new Clutch magnet Assly. part no 95210-64JB1. Cost Rs 9321.
2. Asked my MASS to remove the compressor assly and give it for complete overhaul, including filling fresh oil. Overhaul cost came to Rs. 3,200. MASS charges for this was around 3,000 including gas.

But after a month or so I faced a peculiar problem of A/C not cooling after 2pm. It turned out that the electromagnet of the new Clutch assly was defective. So we replaced it with the electromagnet of the old clutch and all is fine now.

That price is different now:

https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-clut...y_mag-7255480/

Anyway, upon further inspection, it was decided that only the clutch magnet is required. Not changing the compressor assembly.

The AC Compressor clutch of my 2007 Grand Vitara 2.0 failed. A good Car AC Workshop got it overhauled and fixed. The total cost was around 3000.

I would suggest find a reliable Car AC Mechanic and he will get it fixed.
