Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP [14 years & 150000kms]

My GV2.0 MT needs new AC compressor, can anyone point me in the right direction? it is hard to find a replacement and price for a new one from Maruti doesn't make sense.
Appreciate your kind input.

Good AC Mechanics in Delhi have installed a different, easily available, and cheaper Compressor in Grand Vitaras.

Other option is to look for a compressor of a scrapped vehicle.
I know of a Grand Vitara being scrapped at a workshop in Gurgaon. Message me and I will share the contact details with you.

That's great to hear was it a GV compressor or from another OEM car ? If the latter then please share more details of the compressor since it could help other GV owners

Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP

I had been facing, in 2022 & 2023, random starting issues. All investigations were turning out negative. Finally it was tracked down to a weak immopiliser chip on the main key. I had changed the keys and cloned the immobiliser chip in January.
In July end the issues with the immobiliser recropped up and it was diagnosed that the Immobiliser sensor was now faulty. Part number is 33970-65J00. My MASS promptly ordered the part. A 3 month wait later we decided to track down alternate items. SX4 immobiliser sensor 33970m68ka0 was shown as a replacement but stock was not available in the maruti system. Some clever online searching by the storekeeper threw up a likely candidate and we ordered it asap. Luckily it is a perfect fit for the Grand Vitara. Only the sensor illumination is not present.

Part no is 33970m68k20. Cost is Rs 1030.
Replacement is very easy. Remove the steering lower cover. Dsiconnect the sensor. Remove the mounting screw and replace the sensor. Only the sensor illumination is not present.

Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP

My Grand Vitara, is finally sold. Most of my friends and family, and I don't mean just BHPians, associated me with my Grand Vitara. It was part of my life for 17.5 years, and 175000 kms of driving. I never owned any other car for this long. So many public and private moments of my family is associated with this Grand Vitara. It never stranded me in the middle of the road, even once. It was never ever towed, except in offroad outings.

It was hardly being used in the last few months, there was no point keeping it as a collector's item catching dust. I also didn't have second parking space in Udupi, so I had to borrow parking slot from a neighbor. At least the new owner will be using it regularly.

I don't think any other car would become as much part of my life in future. I sold it to a close friend of a close friend. So don't ask me about selling price, etc. It will remain in the same town and will be serviced in the same service center where it was lovingly pampered throughout its life.

To a fellow Grand Vitara admirer

Happy for the new owner, but feel that a part of your heart has been taken away, @Samurai. Yours and Sudev's inputs facilitated my decision to get my Grand Vitara more than 10.5 years ago. I endorse what you said - "never stranded me". This isn't an exciting car to drive, but wherever she's been, heads have turned. Despite minor unforced issues (due to rodent attacks), the car's done fantastically well and hasn't aged. Thank you for authoring the Bible of Grand Vitara ownership threads.

This in itself is testament to the reliability of the Suzuki brand. I liked the timeless look of the Grand Vitara whether under the hood was a 2.0L \ 2.4L engine. When it comes to reliability, Suzuki is to India whats Toyota to the world minus engine longevity.

Re: The First Grand Vitara on Team-BHP

The older gen cars were so much better to look at. The simple design and the styling was top notch. We had a Tata Estate. I have never seen any other car like that on Indian roads since it was discontinued.

There is a charm in older cars that the new ones will never have. Auto designers should take note.

Coming from such a reliable car, wonder what is replacing it. I'm in a similar situation with my Hexa, so asking.

Oh, the replacement was found 18 months ago. My Tucson AWD is already close to 19,000kms, with zero issues in 18 months of running. Only a CKD/SKD could come close to CBU quality.
