Choices . . . choices

Hi,

Dussehrah and the consequent 2 days holidays meant that the GTX would be parked in the booth for a looooong time. That added to the fact that I am a lazy chap meant no updates.

The 2 days break also meant that my idle mind went into overdrive and started toying with different colours. White is attractive

but,

Fiat Palio GTX 1.6 acquired 2nd hand Edit: Pictures of Painting Process on Pg9-p1060050.jpg

why not a green?

Wait, let us try another colour -

What about a red?

I will have to take a call later today.

Cheers,

Ravvs---Green is a no-no IMO. Red looks fab, but nothing beats the yellow shade of the S-10

Hi raveendra,

Green doesnt look good. especially the dark green that you have put up. If you are so keen about the green, try the fern green colour that the original palios came with. Thats pretty good.

And while you are on the subject of red, I went through the exact same process and found that 2 reds were particularly attractive.

1) Colorado Red (International Ford's and our own Figo)
2) Flash Red (Volkswagen Polo)

Why don't you try these and see how it looks. As for the colorado red, you can check out my GTX with the colour. The link is given below.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...o-1-6-gtx.html

Oh and btw, thats one hell of a paint booth you have got the Palio into. He even lets you try out colours on the car. Is he charging extra for that?

@Raveendra,

IMHO, Green definitely does not look good. Try Flash Red, I did see couple of Red Polos on Road in Bangalore and it looks great in that color. Am sure ur GTX will look great in that color. Please do keep us posted on the color that you will select

@Ravveendrra: Now that you have the vehicle's interiors removed, I would strongly suggest that you cover the whole floorpan (including the firewall) with Dynamat (preferably Dynamat Extreme). It would make the car drive like one from several segments above. Total cost should be around Rs. 15000 for Dynamat Extreme.

Try 3M sound deadening pads. They are worth spending money. Am getting my car done with this next week. Shall post that in a new thread

Playing with colours etc.

Considered the red & green and took the advice posted - thanks guys. Dropped the idea and decided to try a nice white that comes on the Audi Q7 (I know it is not Italian but hey, it is European - right?)

Not too happy as this does not really suit the charector of the car.

Ok, here we go with what seems the most popular colour (as per remarks here and on FB). A yellow, not strictly the S10's Canary yellow a.k.a. Process yellow, but something close.

Hmmm, that looks pretty good. Let us put a clear coat on it to 'fix' it.

Yummy! a slightly lemony yellow - Canary Yellow with a twist of lime! This colour has more green pigments in it than the S10's yellow. So now we are about done.

Personally, i'd have stuck to the white. Very classy.

The car looks nice in yellow but I do miss the colourful red and green. I also miss the serene white. This means it is time to call for a meeting of a bunch of car-crazy guys, fellow TBHPians and the core of what goes by the name of Team Mars viz. Suren181, Absynthguzzler, Pulsar56, Prabhu and yours truly. All fired up, they hit upon a solution to keep me happy - keep the yellow and the other colours as well. Now that would be 4 colours painted on the car! A tough job, but Prabhu who owns the workshop is unfazed. He gets going immediately:

Above and below - Prabhu concentrates on getting the colours onto the car.

This is the idea that the design team came up with:

Prabhu finally says "Pack up guys" at something like 12.30 a.m.

@ Beejay are you sure you did not peek or have inside info? You hit the nail on the head. The stripes are the Italian colours (not Indian, as I do not want trouble with the kind that can object to Narain putting the Ashoka Chakra on his helmet).

@ Vipul and ravikn: Though the underbody and the inner side of the cabin have been painted with a weatherproof coat that insulates and deadens sound, I plan to use sound deadening sheets from Wurth to make the cabin quieter six boxes of them are waiting to be used in the GTX.

@ jigbarai and Jaguar.runs: This is not the final finish. The final finish will go on tomorrow.

The next stages:

1. The seats have been stripped and the metal frames painted. The seat frames, cushions etc. were packed into the 'Le Tank' who like the ideal bigger sibling is carrying the load to Bangalore to get the seats fixed and upholstered.

2. All the plastic trim inside the cabin gets treated with some coating and then painted.

3. The bumpers, door handles, ORVMs etc. get painted.

4. The whole car gets 'dulled', washed and cleaned. Thereafter a binder gets sprayed on it. Finally a scratch resistant clear coat will be sprayed on.

5. The whole car will then be polished.

6. The sound deadening sheets get fixed.

7.The painful part - all the bits and pieces get fixed into the car.

I plan to take more pictures and post them here till the story is complete.

Cheers,
