Thanks ulhas.ahirrao. I will take this into account when I plan to replace the current horn.

Shivam, did your clutch get back to normal after the service. What was changed?
I have a strange Tuk-Tuk sound that creeps up once in a while from somewhere near the rear bumper whenever I pass over potholes or uneven roads at slow speeds this is not seem at higher speeds. Also this is not consistent, I get it occasionally. Unfortunately it does not creep up while I give it for servicing but is a nagging issue. Any of your folks have got this issue and could identify the problem, do let me know.

Re: i10 kappa sportz - 1 year/16K kms ownership report

Hi can anyone help me with regards to my query: Recently I've noticed my idle RPM on my i10(Feb '11) rise & fall. I do not have my foot on the accelerator and I can feel the engine rise and fall and notice the same in the RPM needle going above the 1 mark and then falling down and once again rising up.

Does anyone else have this issue? Or is it an issue at all? The reason being I showed it to the service center guys and they say its normal.

I haven't had this rise & fall happen before so I'm just thinking what might be the issue here. Thanks for suggestions or pointers.

Hi nitrus - I have yet not got the clutch thing addressed. Will soon do that in another few days. I have not experienced this rear sound but do check if this could have anything to do with something in the boot eg around spare tyre.

Re: i10 kappa sportz - 1 year/16K kms ownership report

well thought of sharing my experiences on 2 year old 1.2 magna i10. it has run arnd 30k till date with two long drives of 2k each.. rest is all city driving. its a pleasure to drive the car in city. no major problems. changed the stock tyres to michelin xm1+ after 28 k. then the ride quality has improved vastly. only complaints are the service centres. with santro taxis all around it has become too crowded. FE is good arnd 12.5 in city conditions but then i stay in navi mumbai where the traffic is a lot better

Hi Nitrus,

I missed your post. Yes I got the same issue last to last week in my 2.9 yrs old i10. It was the same sound near the rear bumper or rear tire (right side) at slow speed even in a flat road during rainy time. I didn't find anything abnormal at least to my eyes when I checked. After that day, it was vanished. I didn't observe or hear it again till now.

Re: i10 kappa sportz - 1 year/16K kms ownership report

Day before yesterday, when I was driving my i10 to my office it was raining heavily. Suddenly the wiper blades (or the motor) were jammed and stopped functioning by showing \\ shape on the windscreen. I stopped on the side of the road as I was not able to see the road clearly due to heavy rain. I called the service station but they told me to drive the car to station to check it. After waiting for a while, I drove slowly my car in light drizzling and reached the office which is nearer than the service station.

After the rain has stopped, I went to service station. They need it for a day to check the motor by removing front compartment. Since it was evening and I want to back to my home and I just told them to do it by Monday during my office hours. Hence they just removed the wipers (both Dr and Pa) and kept them inside boot. And also removed the fuse of wiper (in case if I engage the wiper switch, the power wouldn’t go to wiper motor).

I am going tomorrow to service it. I hope for no rain tomorrow as it is stopped from today noon here in Chennai.

As I am going to complete 3 years with my i10, in last 3 months, I faced the following major issues.

1. Horn was not working suddenly – repaired with no cost (under warranty)
2. Few of Rear defogger lines are not working – replaced the whole rear glass with no cost (under warranty)
3. Steering wheel column rattling issue – rectified
4. Now the wipers jammed.

As my 3rd year extended warranty will become void by next month, I feel how to manage if any issue comes after next month.

I believe those are 175/70-13 xm1+? Did you change the rims as well? I was suggested by one of our members to change the rims as well, since the OEM rims are not wide enough. Also I am more interested to know if the ride quality has changed a lot after the upgrade? How is it going over the potholes at high/low speeds? The grip for sure would be lot better now.In another couple of months, I will need to change my tyres and planning to upgrade for better ride quality.

Re: i10 kappa sportz - 1 year/16K kms ownership report

Wiper issue got rectified. The water went inside the wiper motor due to which the motor stop functioning. It is replaced with new one under warranty.

Service manager told me that after getting many complaints like this, the i10 wiper motor was redesigned 1.5 years ago and all new i10 models got the new one which didn't allow water inside.

Now by seeing some complaints, I went for 4th year extended warranty by paying Rs. 4550.

Re: i10 kappa sportz - 1 year/16K kms ownership report

hi guys, decided to chip in after going through the entire thread and similar faced problems (clutch hard like a rock) steering coloumn rattling noise and also the driver door not locking / unlocking from inside. not to mention the headlight stalk not functioning properly (no parking lights, straightaway the headlights come on !) as the last time i visited this thread the 10 was still a newbie and now its 27k old and gone for its 4th paid service.

HMI is aware of the steering gear rattling problem and has passed instrctions to their dealers. so if they just pretend to be ignorant or just dumb, tell them this. "rattle noise can be eliminated by replacing the urethane pad with yoke plug & and yoke spring". HMI has issued a technical service bulletin Number: 10-56-I09-PA/PB. which they should possess and be aware of regarding same.

the clutch even i'm not sure how in a modern car can last for only 20k kms. however have come to know that the 10 has a single point clutch, which means that it doesn't have a range like hydraulic clutches, between which it is engaged, and is released at a specific point in the travel of the pedal (thats why the car judders at very slow release of the clutch). hence may be it is generically a little hard to avoid the car stalling everytime (my own logic, assuming the clutch spring (pressure plate) must have been tensioned hard to acheive this) am also going through a complete clutch kit replacement. costs about 8.5k . for the records i have a hyundai accent as well which went through a clutch replacement around 90k and has done another 40k since, with the clutch still in butter smooth condition.

the driver side door lock, is getting replaced under warranty. generally it is a piston assembly connected to a geared motor via a steel rod which moves the lock. gears are generally plastic(inside the actuator). if it wears out (the teeth) it doesn't have enough strentgh to push or pull the rod with enough force to lock or unlock the door.

hope the above helps a lot of people in getting these problems fixed the first time, without getting fleeced by our greedy dealers. one last thing which i find most irritating is the position and form of the clutch pedal itself. i find the pedal connecting rod (by which it hangs) interfering with the toes on normal operation. if one adjusts slightly, you end up grazing the steering coloumn. do share if you experience the same. will update on the clutch after its replaced.

Re: i10 kappa sportz - 1 year/16K kms ownership report

@gultajkanwal Thanks for the detailed update on these generic issues. It has been a while since I updated the thread. Recently got paid service done from Advaith Hyundai Bangalore. Also upgraded tires from stock Bridgestones to 175/70R13 Michelins. All the good things said about Michelins are really true, riding over the same potholes/uneven-ness of the road is much smoother now. Recently did a 1100Km coastal Karnataka trip on the new shoes and it was a sheer pleasure.

On the issues front, the only irritating issue is the clutch. After cold start - there is a feel in the clutch pedal on pressing/releasing the clutch ( as if it passes through an obstruction, that grinding kind of feel and tak ). After driving for few mins, goes away. Had shown the issue to Hyundai during last service, they replaced the pedal assembly of the clutch. It worked smooth for a week or so and the issue returned. Never got the time to go back again and complain. Dont know what to do on this as of now - was thinking of showing to a private guy who does a focused root cause analysis but dont know of any good specialists around Sarjapur road - let me know if anyone has pointers. Clutch as usual is a bit on the harder side but I guess I am now used to it!

Though drivers in Bangalore are way less aggressive than Delhi, Mr Kappa has contrary experience. Thrice it has been banged around the sides. Twice when it was just parked. Third time was near ORR-Sarjapur Road junction where a novice driver decided to overtake from left and banged his rear fender in to my left front bumper. There were other small dents also ( carried over from Delhi ). So decided one day to get rid of them. Went to Sai Colorium and got a quote of 17K. Looked on the higher side. Also checked with Automechs in Koramangala, their quote was lower but the place didnt inspire much confidence. Both of these guys said it will take 3-4 days for the job. Because of this much time - never gave it for repairs. Let me know of any pointers.

Also am thinking of replacing headlights and horns. Philips Xtreme power is what I am thinking as it would be plug and play but need to find a place where I can buy + get installation done.

Rest will update later..

@svaid,
Xtreme bulbs are plug and play. And can be easily installed by any mechanic. If you have patience you can do yourself.

Good to know that. Did you change the rims too? Also can you give details about where you got them changed and the price quote?

Heard that Carnation next to Cessna SEZ does it for a cheaper price. You may want to check there once. But why not get it done at the showroom itself? They will do it in 3 days and yes you will loose the NCB, but comparing the overall charges you will claim it will be negligible in my opinion. I got it done twice at Advaith, both times hit by a similar truck.

Yes I changed the rims as 175 is not the right fit for stock rims. I actually bought hyundai accent rims ( + wheel covers ) and used the same. 4 Rims+Wheel covers were around 5K. Tyre cost me 4100/- each. I got a buyback for 900/- for all 4 stock rims and tyres. Roughly the total cost came around 20K. Got it done from Tyre Professionals [ Thanks to Nikhil ]
