Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Kropex has reiterated that the parts are NLS (No Longer Serviceable) and that they have been provided with no alternate parts or engineering instructions. Have resorted to tweeting about this.

Is anyone familiar with the process for placing the order directly with TATA?

From reading your posts, it appears your chosen garage/mechanic is either not competent enough or inept at handling the Safari mechanicals.

Their failure to diagnose an issue for 1.5 months (45 days) vs another specialist fixing that specific issue precisely is a testimony.

This Garage is using the last resort strategy: Hit and Trial to find a solution. Replacing one part and then another and then another till they replace the entire engine. In the entire process, making your car the guinea pig and your wallet the scape goat. Opening so many parts, engine head, entire hose pipes, radiator etc without able to resolve the problem is only a sureshot recipe of future issues.

If I were you, I would not trust this garage in fiddling with another nut bolt of my car.

Mod Note : Please quote ONLY the relevant bits of a post. Quoting a full, long post inconveniences our mobile readers.

Thanks!

Hope you have tried replacing the thermostat.

The yodha uses a 2.2 liter block, albeit in a much lower state of tune than what the storme runs, I'm guessing it's the same one, or similar, not an entirely different one. Have the dealers checked if that engine has parts that could be used with the stormes engine? The yodha is still in production, so parts for it should still be available.

Coolant was re-filled and drove back to BLR. Thankfully did not face any issues and the coolant level has not reduced post the drive back.

At the service center, they lifted the car and visually check for any leaks while idling. Am not sure how effective this was but had to take their work for it.

Weird Issue in My Stoeme

For folks who might not know, I bought a used Storme (2017) model recently. The vehicle has been very good and I really enjoy it.
Last weekend while returning from a party late night, suddenly the ABS light, the check engine light and one more light came up on the console just a km away from my house. The engine sound suddenly became very loud and started sounding like a tractor. As the signal opened and we moved slightly ahead, just a 100mtrs ahead the vehicle lost power and the engine shut down. We turned off the ignition switch and then tried again and the vehicle started and we were able to reach home. However the ABS and check engine light was constantly on.
Next day (Sunday) I dropped the vehicle at Wasan Motors Deonar, Mumbai. Since I had to leave for Bangalore for a week I told them to fix it and drop the vehicle at my home when it's done.
They started diagnosis on Tuesday and on putting the OBD scanner they found the following issues.

The service advisor told me that seems like a wiring issue and they are trying to isolate the issue.

After a couple of days, they were unable to isolate the problem and so they cleared the errors and were trying out the vehicle. During short drives the vehicle behaved normally but then the errors came up again with the engine vibrating with check engine light coming on. And then sometime later the vibrations going away and also the check engine light also went away. So they are back to square one. Wanted to check with you what could be the issue. The new error codes found today are

Storme owners/users: how do you open the door from outside ?

Grip the movable part of the handle and pull ?

If you are doing this, then it's wrong. With time, You will damage the handle such that the movable part will break on the inner side.

Correct way:
While you grip the movable part of the handle with your four fingers, place thumb on the fixed part of the handle. The opening should be a dual action - push with thumb, and pull with the four fingers.

This may not be clear when you read it, but try it when opening the door, and you will know.

- As shared by my mechanic.

Were the Wasan guys able to find the resolution of this issue. I haven't had a similar issue but only the ABS light issue was there which eventually led to a change of the ABS sensors and since then it has been fine.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Have tried two TASS in Mumbai and experience has been pathetic by both. Regarding this issue, added a post regarding the same here (Used Tata Safari Storme Review | From a Maruti Suzuki Baleno to a Tata Safari Storme).

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

My 2015 Storme has clocked 60k Kms and I get the feeling that the clutch is at its end of life.

What's the rough cost to get it changed? Also what are the clear signs of clutch at its end of life, just want to ensure it's not just me misinterpreting regular age related issues.

I am at a similar point like you. Mine is a 2014 4*4, done 85k now. The TASS has been telling me atleast for more than a year that the clutch has become hard and while it doesn't need immediate change, it is better you get it done at some point. This same has been the story for almost 1.5 years now. Don't remember the estimate that they had given but recently my FNG guy also told me that next time at 90k service we should get it changed. He quoted approx. 15 ~ 16k for the job.

I myself don't have an answer on what the objective point for change is or is there any adverse impact on other components of the car in case we don't replace it on time. It's like I have got used to this clutch so don't feel any hardness but the garage guy says he feels it but again it's very subjective.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Last week after trying to back up from a narrow lane in reverse which was at a slight incline, i felt the clutch is behaving funny. Post that i felt the RPM climbing and the car not picking up as much in 1st or 2nd and then later i seemed to be fine.

I am not able to live with this Schrödinger’s degree of uncertainty with my clutch . Hate the prospect of being left stranded with a slipping clutch if it were to deteriorate quickly while on a trip.

Have bitten the bullet and have my nearby TASS to order a clutch as the did not have one in stock. They have quoted something like 17k for the same.

With your car also ageing like mine, are you thinking of changing? if so what car are you looking at next?

Thanks xbox for sharing your experience. I don't think I have faced that clutch slipping issue yet though I at times the 1st gear kind of gets stuck, it just doesn't slot in the 1st time. Not sure if this is to do with the clutch or something with the gear itself.

Also, the 17k sounds good if that's the quote with labour that TASC has provided. If it is just the parts, then I would increase the total hit on the wallet by at least 10K more. But if 17K is the total estimate, then I might as well get it done at the TASC.

Regarding your Q on the change, I actually don't plan to change it anytime soon. I am actually bought it less than 2 years back, though I am actually the 1st and 3rd owner of this car. Bought it back from the person to whom I had sold it once I came back to India. The reason was it is difficult to find a rugged ladder on frame 4*4 now. Though since then ScorpioN has been launched but somehow it hasn't plugged the heart strings as much as to call for a change. So at least till the 15 year mark no change, if at all I have to change at that point, from the current crop of vehicles, I might actually go for the Gurkha.

Exhausted my 2 emoticon cap.

Did you also reward that mechanic or find out what he's been smoking/sniffing?
