Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

I read the review through just for the sheer quality of it, but was turned off the car itself right at the mention of the lousy 1.2MPI being the only engine option.

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

Nice review Aditya..!!
Very well articulated and compared with peers.

I have one question for all of us (including myself) complaining about lack of 1.2TSI engine option.

Which one would you buy ? Ameo TSI or the Vento TSI ?

Remember that the TSI engines are imported, so that costing between the 2 cars wouldn't be very far apart in the Highline variants.

Please be honest while answering. Thanks.

Their prices will not be similar. Ameo prices are close to that of the Polo.

Polo GT TSI is nearly 11L on road Bangalore, while the Vento Highline AT is over 14L on road, according to Carwale.

So that makes the estimated price difference 3L. It comes down to how much one can afford.

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

The Ameo diesel has been caught on a testing run in Maharashtra by the Carwale team.

Slotted to be launched during the festival season ahead, the Ameo will come with a newly-retuned 1.5L TDI oil burner mill which will churn out 108BHP of power and 230Nm of torque, and which will be mated to a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG box.

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

Thanks for the great review Aditya. You could have easily done half of it by just giving links of Polo and vento reviews given the similar product family and design .

I am confused as hell as to what was VW thinking in spending 720 crores with this product. It would make sense if they were first to market, but given they are last and with products like Aspire/Zest also struggling against Dzire/Xcent, no way they can manage any sizeable numbers. VW has a USP in form of being german and build quality, but that is going to take them only so far if they dont launch something new and fresh.

Why the reduced torque? The current 1.5 has 250Nm of torque. Is this a special tune for the Ameo, or will the future Rapid and Vento diesels come with the same state of tune as well?

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

Excellent all rounded review Aditya, thanks guys.

Volkswagen has not brought anything new save for a "sedaned" polo. And the Volkswagen scandal has pulled me off from all the brands under their umbrella. Innovation in "fresh lines" is showing stagnation in VW's stables. One cannot sell for eternity old wine in an old bottle.

The current 1.5 engine has 2 sets of tunes. The one in the Polo TDI comes with 90hp and 230nm torque and the one in the Polo GT TDI and the Vento/Rapid comes with 105bhp and 250Nm Torque.

All the articles around this updated engine talk about the power bump to 108bhp which would be logically an upgrade to the GT and Vento/Rapid Engine and should continue to come with 250nM torque. I don't think it is very clear if we will see a change in the 90hp variant that does duty in the regular Polo. I doubt if they will make this new 108 hp variant standard in the Polo also. That would mean no differenciation with the GT as well as the Vento/Rapid.

The good thing is that since they have not released the Ameo Diesel, I assume it should come in the more powerful state of tune thus ensuring another differentiating factor over the regular Polo.

Peak torque from the new 1.5L, 108BHP Ameo engine will be restricted to 230Nm, while the Vento/Rapid will get the 108HP/250Nm version of the same 1.5L powerplant.

This will ensure enough differentiation between the C1-segment Ameo and it's older C2-segment siblings.

The regular Polo will continue with the 1.5L, 89HP/230Nm engine, while the GT TDI might also get upgraded to the 1.5L, 108HP/250Nm oil burner.

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

Great Review of the Volkswagen Ameo.Recently suggested to a colleague of mine who was interested to own a car in this segment but on contacting Volkswagen Thrissur the dealership mentioned a test drive of the car is given only in the dealership premises this is odd as most car dealers prefer to give test drives on public roads we even sent a mail to Volkswagen but they maintained its company policy looks like Volkswagen is not looking at volumes. Its a great shame after such an excellent review

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

I had the privilege to spot a 'Blue Silk' ameo on the road. It looked chic and can be distinguished from a Polo. In contrast to the pictures, the rear does not look like a chop shop work.

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

Ameo gets a decent start. Dispatches 2200 units in July. But the big Question is can it sustain its numbers? It would have cannibalized the Vento numbers.

Maybe it will stabilize at 2.5K /month after the diesel variant too is launched.

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

The Ameo TDI was spotted testing on the Mumbai-Pune expressway in a convoy which included the Vento TDI and the Skoda Superb test mules as well.

Re: Volkswagen Ameo : Official Review

Ameo TDI being spied in its final lap just before its October debut. VW after having a decent start with the Ameo Petrol variant is now looking to gain a foothold in the most competitive 'compact' sedan segment.
