Precisely my state of mind now. We are a 2 car family and i expect to pick up an electric hatch in the next 2-3 years. So not too concerned with mileage.

I drive a Hyundai Venue DCT and it's almost a year old now. I had heard multiple horror stories of DCT transmission failure and people getting stuck in traffic time and again due to this issue. However, most of these stories are from earlier DCT gearboxes. In my year long ownership of Venue, haven't encountered any such issues and DCT is such a hoot to drive on the highway

If you take care of your car and follow certain thumb rules for DCT gearboxes, I doubt you will face any challenges over your long term car ownership. There are multiple YouTube videos regarding the same. I would recommend to watch some of them for a hassle free ownership and driving experience. All the best!

Thanks for the feedback. I will certainly be taking a longish testdrive before confirming the variant. Infact, I am still seeking advice from BHPians on what other alternatives exist to meet my requirements.

But what I dont understand though is how does the Ertiga/XL6 manage with 6/7 people with a slightly less powerful petrol engine? Perhaps Ertiga/XL6 owners can chip in. Thanks.

Thats the feedback I have gotten from most people I have asked too, that most of the DCT failures happened in cars before 2021 and things are better now, I havent come across any DCT heating issue in cars manufactured after 2020 on our forum or anywhere else online.

Either way I have asked my SA to let me know when they are allotted either of the automatics and I shall take a call then, its one of the smaller and newer dealerships in Mumbai and hence are more accomodative. According to him, they have only received Prestige and Prestige Plus variants till now and Luxury variants are expected by the end of the month.

Re: Kia Carens Review

Kia dispatched 5109 units of Carens last month. Those numbers look good for an MPV. Have to wait and see where those numbers stabilise to once the initial interest dies down though.

Re: Kia Carens Review

Need suggestion from fellow bhpians who have booked/got the Carens. Kia is offering a combined package of Periodic Maintenance + Extended Warranty + RSA as per the image below. Have you opted for it, or have taken the EW separately without the maintenance package?

Congratulations. Do share your delivery experience and drive experience?

Did you go for the dealer insurance or arrange it on your own?

Congratulations! The only dampener in this otherwise perfect VFM variant is the headlamps. Please do update us with the headlamp performance once you get the chance to drive in the dark.

Also, is it possible to retrofit OEM fog lamps from KIA (or from after market)? The plastic shroud/housing for fog lamp is still present and is the same compared to Luxury variant, hence I guess it could be done.

I will most likely be going for 4years/100k km package as I don’t see myself keeping it for more than 4 years. Also, SC told us that once opted for 4 years package, we can’t take 5th year EW. Additionally, 5 years plan also covers scratches which is covered once a year. (One panel in a year)

Tentative service cost of Carens is 8-9k and EW for 4th and 5th year is approx 23k. So 4 years package is VFM since 4 services are covered (8k*4=32k + 4th year EW which is going to be some 11k) and total cost of this package is 31k.

5 years plan is 45k

Let us analyse this analytically. For the 5 year petrol package:
  1. Extended warranty cost - Rs 23,877 (Kia dealer)
  2. 5 year service cost (per car dekho for Seltos - https://www.cardekho.com/kia/seltos/service-cost) - 23,140
  3. 2 year RSA - Rs 500 - 1,000 (internet search)
  4. 1 year scratch care + alloy wheel care - need to understand what exactly does this mean - all scratches till the 365th day covered or only the first set of scratches covered?? what is alloy wheel care?
Adding the above up the cost comes to about 48k (excl point 4 above). Kia is charging 44.5k. And as Kia keeps emphasizing inflation will increase service charges in the future.

On the face of it, this is a good package for the buyer. What am i missing?

Congrats on your new purchase. Wish you many happy miles.
I have tentatively booked the same variant in the same colour, albeit in the 1.5L NA version.

Have driven my Friend's XL6, engine lacks power on paper, but Maruti has tuned the motor to deliver excellent low end torque and Decent top-end power, gearbox too complements this well. Mid-range is pretty average though.

Excellent point. I also think the mild hybrid system in the XL6/Ertiga helps over here. If you plan it intelligently, it just gives you enough zip to get through a gap in traffic. The car does run out of breath on highways against more powerful engines.

Thanks @giri1.8 and @sumobom4 for your comments. So I guess bottom line is I need to take a TD of the 1.5NA on the Carens and assess the performance myself. If they have tuned the engine/gearbox combo well enough, it may fit the bill for me.

A general request to other members: if anyone has had TD experience of the 1.5NA version, please share your valuable thoughts. Thanks.
