Thank you so much. I have passed on your suggestion to my friend. Maybe he will be interested. It's one of the bulkiest user manuals I have seen and barely fits the tiny glove box of the Jimny

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I bought the Jimny 4 days before the official discounts came in. Luckily I had already received a 2L deal so I'm not mad.

A few keen observations after driving my Jimny (Zeta MT) for 700kms

1. The dreaded turning radius is annoying and it led me to look up the same for the 2 door jimny. Turns out the 2 door has a tight 4.9m radius while the 5 door has a 5.7m radius. I think they just increased the length of the car and called it a day. No mechanical adjustments from the look of it. The steering also feels too slow. Could this be the reason?

2. The ride is amazing when the car is empty. However, once you load it up, you'll realize the rest suspensions are really soft and the ride quality kinda vanishes. Another con was the bad handling. On taking a right turn in my loaded jimny, the rear left tire basically sunk in and the car felt lifted from the right front.

3. The engine feels peppy to drive if you push it a little. Shift around 3000 rpm and you'll understand what I mean. You can just zip through traffic.

4. Initially I considered a throttle controller to make the car respond better. I've since gotten used to it and I'm no longer eager to get one

5. The mileage I'm getting is about 11.5 kmpl. Maximum I've seen is 15.4kmpl

6. The halogen headlights on the zeta are just about enough. I don't think I need a change but they're definitely not the brightest.

7. The family likes how cute it looks. Older people like how easy it is to get in and out of this car. Runs fine with 4 people in the car except the suspension issue I mentioned earlier

8. I will not be upsizing the tyres as these seem adequate. Any upsize would be majorly for aesthetic reasons. My innova for example runs on 205 section tires and it's a much bigger vehicle.

9. The wireless android auto sometimes disconnects. I don't understand why. Other times it just stops playing music for a second and then it's back on again. Weird

10. The particularly small windshield took a day or two to get used to.

Overall it's a fun vehicle with a lot of character and the new price just makes it seem like a really value for money product. The final price I paid for the base variant was 12.87L. Bought it from Magic Nexa, sec-9 Dwarka. Dealership experience was many times better than what I had experienced with Toyota and Honda.

I would also love to buy a copy of this manual! The print looks great and nothing beats good old fashioned paper when it comes to referring to complicated information, like that in a manual. Kudos to your friend for doing this solid effort. Do let me know if I'd be able to get my hands on one.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Test drove the Jimny this weekend on the highway to understand its road manners at 'highway speeds' . Impressions below.

Car : Approx 5k done Jimny Alpha AT with Roof carrier

Road : Hebbal to Airport road in Bangalore - a fairly straight stretch of 6 lane road with good traffic that allows to test for overtake prowess of the vehicle and cruising speeds

Impressions:
1. Initial acceleration - coming from a GT TSI 1.2, the AT gearbox takes it time but does reach 80-90kmph rather effortlessly. It's not a drag but not a DSG either. It does the job well. I did not feel a lack of 'punch' in the acceleration

2. Cruise speeds - it can cruise at 80-100kmph speeds all day. It was drizzling slightly that day and the SUV felt planted at these speeds.

3. High speed manners - adequate (again comparing to the Polo GT). The SUV does what it is suppose to do. Requires a bit of steering input getting used to on changing lanes but one gets used to it as one drives more.

4. Overtakes - the highly debated topic on this thread. Honestly, the SUV can overtake almost all vehicles that you would want to overtake in a highway - slow moving trucks, buses and cars. I used 'OD off' as well on the highway and it does give a boost of rpm - not that one needs it if driving sanely.

Overall, I feel the Jimny on the highway does what its suppose to do. It will take you places on the better tarmacs provided you respect the vehicle's abilities. The vehicle will not win you drag races on the traffic green light or ego fights with the next 'big' SUV.
I am also surprised at how all youtube reviewers and car experts call the Jimney underpowered - maybe they drive AMGs or M packages or RS packages all the time or maybe they drag raced this against we all know who

Now, we are only left to choose the colour and haggle on the price Thanks to this forum I am pushing for a reduced ex showroom price vs discount on on road.

I am however looking for recommendations on the colour as I am not very sure on how Suzuki colours age and the road presence of each coour. I am inclined towards the White (Gypsies are best in white ) while better half is inclined towards Red or Bluish Black. A decade from today - how would the white fare vs the red. Any long term holder of a Suzuki (Maruti) car could please help here.

Don't go by youtube reviews. I was shocked how much youtubers cursed the XL6 6AT combination. I went ahead with and thoroughly enjoying the roadtrips with that. This car has spent half of 20k kms in one year of ownership on roadtrips. I don't feel any issues overtaking.

Go with your experience from a longer test drive.

Paint thickness in not that great. It comes of with slightest contact even with other bumpers in parking. So you can judge which color those will be more liveable with if you are not into repainting at the slightest peel.

Most of the users posting negative comments didn't perhaps use the OD-OFF mode while overtaking. I doubt whether they have ever drove the Indian Jimny for an appreciable time or distance to understand the vehicle beyond the test drives. During test drives we do not try many useful functions/ features.

From my buying experience, I would say don't try to play safe with colour select the colour that your heart says or listen to the Home minister. You won't regret. My initial booking was for KY. Then my mind was swaying between safe colour for NCR, i.e., white and Bluish Black (BB). Wife, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law voted for BB. Now I drive the BB Jimny.

I own white Jimny and I think dust and blemishes don't show up on the colour as well. It also stands out as the shape is well seen.Having owned a similar coloured A-star for 11 years, the colour weathers well and all I had to do was give it a professional polish 1-2 times during its time with me. I also own a 2020 red Swift which has a awesome gloss which however tends to fade with time. I've had to polish it once and I've noticed the red pigment tends to rub off on polishing. The garage wallah also tell me this. The red on the Jimny however differs from the Swift. The other Jimny colours are also great and the bluish black looks smashing (if you can keep it clean. Hope this helps

Thanks so much Guys for the appreciation. I just spoke to my Printer friend about it. He has graciously agreed to oblige. You can expect quality from him as he is currently the President of the Printers Association of India and is also a Ignis owner - so he has a very good idea what the original should have looked like. Be warned - it is bulky!

If you're not in a hurry, wait till Jan/Feb, you'll get healthy discounts for MY '23 Jimny.

Happy shopping.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

The way things are, not sure there will be discounts after stock clearance. I'm finding it difficult to locate a dealer in Bangalore with Zeta AT white color. Any leads on this is much appreciated.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Just completed ~1300 kilometers with the Jimny in the last week, here are a few thoughts. Maybe this will help those on the fence about this car:
  • Overall trip mileage was 14.5 kmpl. About 1150 of this was on the highway, rest in Bangalore traffic. Can't complain about this at all. Who says the FE of the Manual variant is bad? Even when I was revving it and touching 100-120kmph, it gave 13.3 kmpl. Today's ride, while cruising at 80kpmh, it was giving close to 18kmpl.
  • Cruise control is a boon for boring highway rides. God help me if I have to do another 350-400 km in a straight line soon.
  • Inspires you to go offroad. While on the way back to Goa from Bangalore, I took a detour via Mundgod. Usually, I wouldn't do this but the Jimny begged to get off the highway. The mundgod road was nonexistent in sections where it's being rebuilt, but nothing the Jimny can't handle.
  • Except for U turns, city riding is amazing. I am not worried about scratching the huge resien wheel guards so driving in traffic is peachy. The Auto Start Stop helps with the FE as well. I don't turn it off since it's not necessary to keep the AC on in December weather.
My Jimny, which is yet to be 2 months old, is nearing the 3000 kilometer mark. I am seriously considering making this my main vehicle and selling my other car (i20 N line), but need to think more about that first. If I modify this to be more offroad biased, then I'll need another highway vehicle. If I keep this as my only car, then retaining the stock vehicle would be more appropriate, as the stock build is balanced between highway and offroad.

Fuelio logs:
Started at 1672 on the ODO with a full tank, ended at 2943.

After I get a concrete idea of the mileage figures, I will stop keeping these logs because it's a real hassle to remember every fuel stop.

NICE Road today morning:

Spotted a lot of groups of motorcycle riders heading to IBW. They draw attention wherever they go. I saw some locals asking one group where they were going at a fuel bunk. One day, I'll do this trip on a motorcycle as well (but first let me buy a Ducati or a BMW haha).

Mandatory pit stop at CCD right after the fuel stop. Both I and the Jimny were thirsty:
Maruti Jimny Review-ccd.jpg

After Bankapur toll, headed off to the Mundgod detour. The roads were being rebuilt and nonexistent in some parts. Would be wary of taking this route again until the construction is complete. Somewhere along the way:

Stopped on the shoulder between Yellapur and Ankola because I thought I could hear a puncture in the front right. Maybe just a stone stuck there, because it's making a tak tak sound every rotation. Couldn't see any nails. Car drove home without issue:

A random shot of the OBD FE Figures.

Now, I'll take a few days off from driving entirely! Either car.
