Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Now that people are taking their cars home, would request them to post any niggles they are facing. I think this is super important at this stage. Completely new model and we are yet to find any niggle as such. The biggest differentiator to the Mahindra stable in my books. I cant imagine taking a new car to the dealership more often than not because of some quality issue.

Also on the Yokohama A/Ts- somewhere i see there is white lettering and in some other posts there isnt, do you pay extra for those white letterings?

But as you said this is the common practice now - demand or no demand. As my SA asked me - "But Sir, we follow the same practice for all the other customers". So if most customers accept something wrong they are apparently justified in doing it.

Drive on,

Everyone who is purchasing a Jimny would have paid the booking amount, the dealer CAN choose to allot the car to your or me based on who is paying first. I`d say get the vehicle invoiced and then inspect it before registration, no dealer would complain there. It`s just that with waiting list some dealers may deny PDI before invoicing, that is just the way things roll now. Why spoil an otherwise pleasant purchase experience, its a new car - Enjoy it.

Tata should come up with a boxy 4*4 at affordable prices.
I agree, a boxy 4X4 is well needed and I dont think we need a new car design for the same. We have plenty of cars currently that would just fit into this niche market.
I like driving alone and will continue to do so but at times, I do get a friend along hence if at all I was granted a few wishes, they would be:
1. Maruti to launch the 3 door Jimny
2. Creta, Taigun, Kushaq, Nexon to have an AWD if not 4X4
3. Safari Storm 4x4 to be launched
But yes, these are figments of my imagination

Granite Grey may not significantly different from BB with respect to siwrls and care required. Just a random GG on road.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I got to know that the Maruti plant was on scheduled upgrade/ maintenance between 10 and 18 June. During this period no cars were being rolled out from that factory. This includes Jimny. So there were no dispatches of Jimny's for one whole week. This is possibly one of the reasons for delay in deliveries for the early bookers.

I spoke to my SA also today and he said that they do not get to know of which colour and variants are coming to them until 2-3 days before they are to arrive at the dealership.

Interesting that Maruti does not have a customer allotment system from factory but is rather the responsibility of the dealer. I find Toyota's allotment system far more efficient in this regard.

That is one reason I am thinking either to play it safe and get a white or go all out and take all the pain to maintain a BB.

Since my original post regarding this, I've talked to the SA once again regarding these expenditures. This time he did say that Rs 25000 was just a ball park figure and I can choose what I want from the available accessories. Lets see how flexible they are with this. I plan to buy the following:

Definitely buying these:

1. All Weather Boot Mat - Rs 2010
2. Mud Flap - Rs 899
3. All Weather Mat - Tread Metal (AT) - Rs 3300
4. Luggage Hook - Rs 200 (4x200= Rs 800)
5. Fog Lamp - Rs 4800

Total: Rs 11809

May buy some out of these:

1. Door Visor - Rs 1990
2. Window Sunshade - 4 Door + Quarter Panel - Rs 1050
3. Window Sunshade - Rear Windshield - Rs 490
4. Premium Body Cover - Rs 3300
5. Grip Cover - Desert Tan - Rs 380

Good quality roof rails and roof rack are definitely on my wish list so will check out the market first for Thule etc. I was hoping that they would offer proper usable 4x4 gear like diff guards but alas that's not the case and on offer is ponchos and camping chairs.

This seems to be a reasonable list without any outside cosmetic accessories as such. I am facing issues with the cosmetic accessories only, while rest add-ons like the mud flaps, carpet and the matting are fine.

Also, if the SA and the Showroom has no issue in you trimming down the accessories amount, you are lucky to have such a dealer. All that needs to be checked is that they don't delay the car's delivery just because we don't buy accessories from them.

And IMHO, Jimny looks great without any cosmetic accessories.

Yes, I agree. My ONLY exception to cosmetic accessories is the vintage Suzuki grill. I would love to have that fitted to mine and how I wish they sold it here too, like they do it in other countries.

In a funny (hope not tragic) turn of events, I have just declined to take the delivery of one. SA called to offer me one same as my specifications but wanted me to act ASAP (within 24hrs). Someone else had a last minute change of heart. I am currently not in town and it would have taken me at least a week to reach back home. I've politely asked him to offer it to others and I will touch base with him again on Monday if its still available. If all fails, my original booking still holds. Lets hope I don't end up regretting this.

This shade is different than of Jimny. I had posted you some pictures of my Jimny. Still you should see physically Jimny in Met. Granite Grey before deciding the color.

Very good selection of essential accessories. Apart from these I would also like to add a roof rack like the Front Runner and a ladder which will complete the set up for a relaxed touring and some off-roading - and enhancing the looks. Hope someone develops those in India soon at a competitive price. Those sold abroad seems expensive
