I too was disappointed with the engine noise of the diesel and chose the Turbo petrol instead.

Food for thought, since you would be anyways getting near identical running costs if you go for Thar D AT vs Seltos DCT turbo petrol, try comparing these for refinement. In my experience the turbo petrol is as refined as a hybrid and passengers seldom could tell if the car was on or not! Added performance is the cherry on cake.

With 17 L on road price and maybe a 35% depreciation in 3 years, is maybe 11L a decent number to expect from a resale perspective? A Petrol 4X4 with Convertible Top is still an outlier and you don't get that option in the Roxx.

So maybe better to wait a few months-year? What do you guys think?
Ideally wait for a year to know all possible niggles. Then wait one more year for the issues to be resolved. Downside is that MM might delete few features silently during this period. Also the insanely high waiting period will get normalised. On the plus side at least you will have extra choices over the all white interiors

In resale markets in South , car value decreases based on age as follows:

1) Less than a year
2) Less than 3 years
3) Less than 5 years
4) Less than 7 years
5) Less than 10 years

Beyond 10 years it’s mostly the Toyotas and Marutis that retain value

Since mileage on the 3D Thar is not on the higher side, it would be prudent to wait for an year or two before taking the plunge

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Being one of the prospective buyers, I intend to replace my 2019 Creta 1.6D, with the Thar Roxx, took the test drive last week, really loved it, though it was a short test drive because of the heavy rush, about 6-7 kilometres on a busy highway, didn’t feel any different from my immaculately maintained 1.6 diesel Creta, at speeds upto 70kmph, which was the maximum that could be achieved on that road, it simply glides over the minor potholes on the road, aptly named the glyde platform, engine performance is good, NVH levels seemed better than the Creta, driver’s seat although not as spacious as the Creta, but livable, loved the commanding view from there. One thing which worries me after watching a number of youtube videos, is that most of the Thar Roxx’s shown in these videos, from the stockyards are in very dirty condition, so much that even the interior including carpets are soiled with dirt and mud, carried over by the staff or the so called Youtubers. Although the carpets are covered with plastic/ polythene, but these get torn easily, just look at the co-driver footwell, rear door sill in the attached screenshots from Youtube. Never in my lifetime any of my cars have been this dirty, doesn’t inspire confidence in the prospective buyers like me, Mahindra and the dealerships need to look into this. Also these are not the test drive or demo vehicles, except the first picture. The test drive vehicles are top AX7L, and these are not the test drive / top models.

At least from outside, a lot of pictures that show this "splash" going from front wheels to front door in upwards direction is due to the gap between the arches and the step. But in media drive vehicles (and team BHP review vehicle pics) and also some showroom pics posted here, there is a mudflap which will help. Hope it comes as default and not as a paid accessory!

Note the Thar 3 Door had a U shaped step, so the step covered this gap.

Looking forward to feedback mainly on left leg hindrance, body roll experienced on curved roads, any electronics specific issues / observations and wind resistance & noise at 85-90 kmph speed in steady long run. Thanks in advance!

I own XUV500 and hence these questions are in relevance / comparison to it. Appreciate your feedback.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

What do you guys think will be the expected bookings on Day 1?

And what should be the strategy to book? Shall we sit on our systems and play the fastest finger first or shall we reach out to the dealer and let them do the booking for you?

Given we will be playing the fastest finger first on 3rd Oct at 11:00 AM, may be a few highlights and low-lights by morning of the same day, compared to your 3 door Thar, will give us some extra motivation.

I booked the 3-door Thar, the XUV700 and ScorpioN all on-line, on the day bookings opened, either for myself or for some family members. In all cases, while I managed book very early in the booking window (first couple of minutes), the allocation date was based more on the variants and colours M&M decided to produce first and less on the exact minute/second on which the booking happened. They generally seem to produce highest margin variant first, and then go down in the order of decreasing margin, except during Covid, when there were part charges for higher end models.

GTO, while you will of course be reviewing the Roxx on its own merit - I, like a lot of others, would love to hear:

1. Performance vs the SN, Thar and the 700.
2. Ride quality vs the other 3 vehicles.
3. Fun-to-drive factor vs the other 3.
4. Happiness Index vs the 3

I have taken 2 test short test drives of Thar Roxx and both did not have any mudflaps on them. The test drive route had some water on road and the second test drive road had some leftover puddles from rains. The front door area and rear door near the sidestep ended up with mud splashes after test drive.

I feel the issue with front door can be solved by installing mud flap, but the rear one worries me.

The rear wheel cover ends where the door ends, so there is high possibility of mud splashing on the rear door. Even mud flap may not be of much help to prevent mud splashes on the rear door. The rear door has small area to put your leg out to come out of the car, when mud splashes are all on the lower part of the rear door, I feel the rear passenger would end up soiling their clothes while coming out of the car. The aftermarket accessory shops could come up with full rear wheel cover that covers entire rear door and body panel.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-img_01341.jpg

The salesperson was confident mud flaps will be one of the go to accessory for Thar Roxx. Mahindra has not provided accessory list as per the salesperson, but he was positive that Mahindra could provide black seat cover as an accessory like the one provided in 3XO. If Mahindra provides black seat cover accessory it will be useful for MX5, AX5L variants (without ventilated seat) but not for AX7L which comes with ventilated seat.

1. Though I drive sedately, not pushing my car above 100kmph but with so much torque on offer and with 2L engine pleading to be pushed,
how much fuel efficiency can I expect from this 2L Gasoline AT machine?[/QUOTE]

Wont expect 6-7 and 10-11 kmpl for city and highway respectively.

So, here is my question, if you rate Hyundai Creta’s comfort during a drive as a solid 8/10 then what would it be for Thar Roxx, Scorpio N and XUV700 in comparison.
It is not a straight forward question to reply, will depend on speed and surface. If use case is city and good roads XUV and Creta will be better from ride perspective. If it is broken roads Roxx would lead.

3. Also, I see that MX3 variant doesn’t come with acoustic windshield. Is it a deal breaker?
Is definitely not a deal breaker. A deal breaker is the glass shape which gets chipped easily, same as 3 door Thar.

13-14 is being really optimistic with petrol, diesel barely manages to give that in real life.

I was one of those who got diverted by cash flow and depreciation. At this pricing it is a no brainer, at least would have been. Instead am ensuring many of my friends get this and I get to use

Downside I see is Mahindra quietly and steadily hiking price up.

Drive mode along with brake lock differentials goes a long way for offroad and slippery terrain. Say 40% of what a 4x4 can do can be managed with a good driver behind.

Yes this is a real issue and if you hop in and out into driver seat without using foot board like me, chances of staining your pants is also an issue during rainy days.

Posting after a while and wow Mahindra, this is a great bang on price for 4x4 also. Thank you and hope you guys stick to this for at least a year or two! Meanwhile we are still waiting to hear some good news regarding the 4x4 Petrol AT

@ Jaggu - Whether power to weight ratio in diesel MT is similar to that of diesel AX5/AX7 AT considering these diesel variants have more power/torque however AT weighs in.

I have not driven the manual version, so unable to comment on this. With regards to weight, the difference as far as am aware is minuscule to make a difference. Real difference would be the engine state of tune for the respective models.
