Re: Kia Syros Review

We took delivery of our Kia Syros HTK option diesel manual transmission, which is the base variant. The engine feels well-refined and offers a good punch. The gearbox is smooth and clicky, making gear shifts enjoyable. The suspension on our car, equipped with 16-inch wheels, offers a comfortable ride. Hard cornering feels confidence-inspiring.

For the price, Kia has packed the car with impressive features. You get a beautiful 12-inch display, and even with a 4-speaker setup, the sound quality is great. Although there's no automatic climate control, the button layout feels premium, and you wouldn't feel like you're driving a base variant. All controls have dedicated illuminated buttons, adding to the premium feel. Manual seat height adjustment is also provided, ensuring a commanding driving position. The large glass area enhances the airy and roomy feel inside the cabin.

This car is replacing my father's Hyundai i20 diesel manual transmission Sportz variant. He is super happy with the purchase, especially since the diesel engine offers excellent fuel efficiency — currently getting close to 16 km/l at 400 km on the odometer.

Congratulations on the New Syros!

The car is a value-for-money option from its base variants up until perhaps the HTK Plus 1.0 Turbo 7DCT, with the base option, there is hardly any denying that it is a great car, especially with the frugal Diesel. Wishing you a very happy car ownership journey!

Re: Kia Syros Review

Syros HTX+ (o) has some serios faulty issues. The Gear Knob, and Steering Wheel (above control panel) gets heated after drive of 25-30 kilometers. The gear knob gets heated in two stages, first the mantellic portion of knob will get heated after 25-30km of drive and then if you drive for 100-150 km, leather portion of gear knob gets heated and by that time metallic portion is boiling hot.

Kia Team (both at dealer level and Kia Central Technical Team Level) have accepted the issue and has acknowledged that both the problems are with all Syros cars of the same model. However, they are not providing any solution/way forward to repair/replace it.

Fuel Type: Petrol
Transmission Type: G1.0T 7DCT
Model: Syros HTX+ (o)

May I know the fuel type and transmission type for which this particular issue is occurring? This information may help many people over here.

Congratulations @anilntny!

Contrary to popular opinion, I am in love with the looks of this car. And the interiors are great, too. It has so much space, and the cabin is roomy. The only reason I opted for the New Seltos HTE(O) over this is because of the suspension. I was practically rolling around in the backseat over mildly bad roads. Mind you, the Seltos was also not comfortable, but miles better than this.

Apart from that, what accessories did you take from the dealer?

Can you share what you thought of your test drive? Also can you share the on-road price of it?

Thanks, and congratulations again. It is a great car.

All accessories are genuine. After test-driving, I believe the best ride quality for the Syros is with 16-inch wheels, while the 15-inch wheels gave the worst experience. The on-road price for the diesel HTK option was ₹13.3 lakh.

Let me know how it is!!

Syros has an advantage on its features and space, let us have wait and see how it is going to roll out.
These are actually way uglier than the actual car. Somehow you've made something that I think I would throw stones at if I saw it in the streets.

Please do not take this lightly, this is THE issue with faulty DCTs, you need to raise this issue, please do not accept this.

You may even approach the consumer court against KIA if they can give it to you in written there is no solution they have for this.

I have seen a few articles where MG Hector DCTs which caught on fire, the fire starter was the heating gearbox warning on the instrunment cluster.

I would love for bhpians to put their input in this

Re: Kia Syros Review

I have been trying to get it resolved since 24 February. But absolute no reply by Kia. Reached out to Hardeep Brar, Marketing Head for Kia India, who launched Syros, as well.

Everyone just replies - Your concern has been noted and we will get back to you.

Lookslike Kia is aware of the defect, but not willing to provide a solution or change the faulty/decected DCT Clutches /Gear Knob.

Re: Kia Syros Review

First batch of any new car launched is a beta test trial on the hapless Indian customers - who are like guinea pigs to these companies.

Kia will lose customers - Seltos sales already down, Sonet barely surviving, Carens is the only bright spot.

This is disappointing,KIA is already losing its position in India, and behaving like these will further damage its reputation.

I think you should take it to the social media. Take a video of the issue also the messages from the KIA. It will caution the potential buyers and caring for the sales, they will respond quicker.

Oh No, it seems to be another issue with the DCT gearbox, no wonder all Team-BHP reviews have the DCT has a con and states " Dual-clutch ATs (like the Petrol DCT) have a history of poor reliability in India". It is a general warning to be aware of what issues may crop up.

However, seeing this issue in a brand-new car is concerning. I was almost of the opinion that Hyundai-Kia DCTs were better on the reliability front as compared to the erstwhile VAG DQ200s which is still used on the 1.5L engines.

Moreover, the issues raised on the 1.0L Turbo Petrol DCTs in the Sonet were quite limited, as was the case in the Venue, moreover, the 1.5L Turbo Petrol DCTs on the Seltos, the Creta, Alcazar, Carens all seemed to be doing well, and now this.

I guess this is not an inherent fault with the transmission itself, more so adapting it to the Syros, we will only get better clarity once Kia does something about your issue and hope you get it resolved soon.
