Now I know that the 1.5L would make the car expensive since it won't get the tax benefit, but then the cost of 1.0 Turbo vs 1.5 N/A may have brought the cost down and it would've made more sense to the target audience of the car I feel. But what a brilliant package otherwise. I hope the mid variants pricing is at 12.5L ex-showroom to really put the sales chart on fire. !!!
They do not want this vehicle to become a taxi, is what I guess.

This is supposed to be a premium sub 4m cross over vehicle and the 1.5L NA is a commuter engine and Kia did not want a commuter engine on a premium vehicle. In addition Kia anyway wouldn't get the tax breaks if they end up using a >1.2L Gasoline engine on a sub 4m vehicle.

Re: Kia Syros Review

What’s with these massive screens in cars from Indian manufacturers these days? A 30-inch display just doesn’t seem aesthetically pleasing, especially in a car of this size. It feels out of place and doesn’t blend well with the overall interior theme.

I'm on the "love it" side of the design debate. Did you guys take any pics of the Syros parked next to any other car? Just want to get an idea of the size and stance compared to say, a Seltos, or Sonet, or a bigger SUV or a smaller hatch.

Re: Kia Syros Review

As always a great review worthy of 5 stars!
The pricing would most likely be at a premium, above Sonet. But this product is going to be a super hit nonetheless, given the penchant for premium offering and long list of features, that the Indian consumer has developed lately.
Looking forward to the price reveal.

I found this video on social media of Syros and Seltos standing side by side. Not sure if I can post it here.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Although I am not a fan of its tallboy quirky design, the "more car per car" philosophy shines through. We need more cars like this , stuff like the triber with creative engineering and clever packaging.

It also has decent engines on offer , the Seltos will definitely take a hit in terms of sales especially those who aren't image conscious

Re: Kia Syros Review

A very competent package indeed. It's got the goodies to go around asking for a higher sticker price (& probably get away with it too)
My wish is to see the Syros create and sustain a hatchback price segment above the i20. (Baby steps towards getting the market ready for premium hatchbacks like the Golf)

Re: Kia Syros Review

Syros is a direct brother of Soul to me. I also thought this will be bigger in size when compared with Sonet but the feel so far is it is not that big to begin with. But this is a solid package with great set of features as usual from the Kia/Hyundai siblings. This is the first time I am recommending a Kia to someone. I recommended this to my cousin. For some reason, they are not interested (could be the polarizing design) and going for the used Creta route.

Front design is futuristic or EV-ish with those large windows offering nice place to commute with. Add the umpteen pages of features, Kia has a winner for sure. I also think this cannibalize its own brothers and cousins for sure.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Syros is getting the same reactions as the Carens got when it was introduced due to their polarizing looks, especially from the front. But look how Carens is performing in the market. People have realized how high it scores on the space flexibility and practicality. I think Syros will go the same way.

During initial days of Seltos launch, I was fooled by many reviewers who praised the car like "Build like European car" "Solid thud to door shut" etc. At the end, it hardly scored 3 stars in GNCAP, and later there was a thread on team bhp highlighting how Seltos sold in India uses inferior steel compared to export models. So, I'd prefer cars to prove themselves in NCAP tests than how each individual feel about car when it comes to build quality. Just search "syros ncap rating" in google, we endup so many biased articles praising/expecting 5 star.

But reality might be quite different, we've to wait and watch.

I think the problem is not the observation itself but assuming it had something to do with the Syros' crashworthiness For some people (including yours truly) a nice shut sound falls into the same category as soft-touch plastics or a knitted headliner. 5-star or not, I don't think I'd want a Mercedes with clunky doors...

Re: Kia Syros Review

Well the syros looks like a great car however there are certain issues in the car which are as follows:

1. The car design is very polarizing. This may be a runaway hit or sale dud depending on if the majority of the public like the design. I like the car design however the sub 4 metre length spoils the design to a great extent and plus that front end, they could have designed it better.

2. The headlamps & tail lights are at that kind of spot, at which 90 % of the cars have 90 % of their dings & dents. I expect the syros on road to be having perpetual problem of cracked light panels.

3. However the interiors and the space within the car is absolutely awesome.

4.The only thing which remains is the pricing. I expect Kia to give it a premium pricing being slightly above than the Sonet.

Re: Kia Syros Review

The Syros better to priced close to the Sonet as there are significant cost reductions they have done in terms of features. With multiple feature misses and very few additions; the premium cannot be more than a lakh justified.

An example shown below of the feature differences of HTX variant.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Kia Syros to get four types of interior themes.

- Will be offered in six variants across two fuel types, and the interior of these variants will be different for exclusivity.

-The top-of-the-line HTX+ and HTX+ (O) get grey leatherette upholstery, where the upper half of the seats has a lighter grey shade, while the lower half is a shade darker. Besides, there's a matte orange accent, separating the two shades

-The HTX variant has the same leatherette seats, but a cloud blue and grey dual-tone and a mint green accent.

-The HTK+, HTK, and HTK (O) get semi-leatherette seats, but there's a slight difference in the colours. For example, the HTK+ variant gets the cloud blue and grey dual tone colour with a mint green accent, like the higher-spec HTX variant. However, the entry-level HTK and HTK (O) variants get black and grey upholstered seats with orange accents.

- Dealers have confirmed that this combination cannot be changed. However, upon booking the car, changes can be made at dealer level through the genuine accessories section to personalise the car further.
