Due to the hype from the youtube reviewers may be KIA got carried away, may be the pre booking numbers was also indicating that people will buy it at any cost. But India being price sensitive market, it could back fire. Need to wait and watch the sales numbers in March and April. Hopefully BNCAP rating will also be out by then.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Well, Kia stayed true to their word that the Syros would be positioned above the Sonet. Objectively speaking, the Syros makes better sense than the Sonet. However, the tiny price differential with the larger Seltos doesn’t make a compelling case for the Syros. Also, the SUV stance of the Sonet might attract more buyers at the lower end of the spectrum.

Currently, practicality and quirkiness are the only things going for the Syros. To get people interested in the Syros, Kia must:

1. Launch an EV version

2. Achieve a decent safety rating in the BNCAP

If they don’t do either, the Syros could end up as a neither-here-nor-there product.

Re: Kia Syros Review

With this kind of pricing the top end model especially Diesel is dead on arrival. Don't think Kia wants to seel cars any more, I feel their market share would come down drastically in the next year or two.

Re: Kia Syros Review

I happened to check out the Syros yesterday for a short while (couldn't test drive). The car was super spacious and had great quality interiors. Rear seats were comfortable with all the adjustment possibilities and even the boot was great. The pricing, TBH, was very confusing as it felt very difficult to position this car against the competition. The most VFM variant seemed to be the HTK+ Petrol DCT as that's where you also start getting features like the Adjustable (sliding and reclining) rear seats, which, I feel is what sets the Syros apart. It would have been brilliant if they gave that feature right from the bottom of the variants.

But to spend 21 L on a sub 4m also felt irrational. To make things more clear, made a pricing comparison chart for all cars around HTK+ DCT and around HTX+ (O) DCT so that anyone can compare what you get from the related variants of the competition. Hope this helps.

Kia Syros HTK+ DCT vs the competition

Kia Syros HTX+ (O) vs the competition

A good test drive and a few months of sales data is what I'm looking forward to.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Its possible that Kia doesn't want to sell too much of the Top model, probably because the features make them expensive and difficult to source. It quite possible that the mid variants are what they can sell at high volumes for good profit and that is why they have priced the mid variants.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Very well written review.

Wonder how many people will put down 1.5M big ones on this 'Conceptee' looking car? Looking at the solid sales of Tata Curvv, which is preety odd balls, this should also fly.

I expressed interest in Syros and got calls from both dealerships as soon as they got on-road prices. I knew Kia was going to charge premium on Syros compared to Sonet. Sonet looks much better be it from front, rear or side as compared to Syros. I convinced that this was a VFM car, was ready to compromise on the looks and after parking I would never look back at the car (if I buy one) because the car is not even a good concept looking car (like BE6). I was optimistic that launch prices would be lesser, but Kia India does not fail to disappoint when it comes to prices.

HTK+ and HTK+(O) are the only VFM variants which get the features I am looking for. HTX variants feel overpriced and I prefer Seltos HTX IVT, Creta S(O) IVT, Creta SXTech IVT, Slavia 1.5 DSG Sportline, Verna S(O) DCT or the oddball Curvv Accomplished S Revotron DCA.

Neither Kia nor Hyundai have any BNCAP ratings for cars on K1 platform. There are no BNCAP tests for Seltos and Creta which are based on K2 platform. Kia and Hyundai will not send their cars to BNCAP when they know the ratings will not cross 3 stars.
At this point I feel Kia most likely will not send Syros for BNCAP and if the crash test rating comes to 3, they will risk loosing customers to other manufacturers.

For the hype and promotion KIA created for Syros,I feel they can't stay quiet on the BNCAP ratings for long. Everyone knows it's on the same platform as Hyundai's Exter and NIOS, also now the prices are not too attractive to boost the sales numbers. Now any informed buyer would look for safety ratings to make their decision.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Pricing is atrocious for a sub 4 meter car. I think even Kia knows they will be selling this car with heavy discounts soon, so I would wait if I was to buy this. Anyway as a thumb rule I wouldn't buy a brand new car within 6-8 months of it's launch. I would rather wait for the manufacturer to iron out the issues and understand where the real market lies with respect to pricing the product.

Re: Kia Syros Review

I knew it! This LONG time delay between launching the model and having the entire media rave about the features on the top model and even opening the bookings for consumers before actually revealing the prices sounded fishy from the get go.
I had a strong feeling that this would have crazy pricing and looks like Kia isn't proud of it themselves, hence the delay.
IMO it does not make sense to get a Syros, especially the top variants unless you are solely going in for the gizmos. Additionally if one is opting for the reasonably priced lower models, you apparently don't get the sliding/tilting rear seats, which was the USP making this car spacious in the rear (which itself was a 'hack' for extra space IMO, you lose out on either boot space or legroom).
I feel this is just dirty marketing, flooding the internet with videos and posts of features which make the model stand out in its segment, and then pricing them out of reach from the sensible buyer, causing the actual product which goes into the hands of the consumer on par with the competition, at best.

On a slightly tangential note, if this is what 20 lakh rupees gets you today, I think I will absolutely hold onto my money and older car. Personally feel the value proposition of cars at these prices is abysmal and a lot of selling points are simply electronic jugglery.

Re: Kia Syros Review

I test drove the car yesterday, Petrol DCT top end model

My impressions

Spacious interior
Luxurious touch and feel
Exterior looks while polarising can grow over time
Steering response adequate
Engine while powerful has some noise
Suspension is nice, much better then Sonet and Seltos for kind of roads we have
Price - definitely value for money quotient is missing
Safety rating - it will sure be more then 2 star but big doubt if it can get 5 star

Re: Kia Syros Review

I think the car that receives maximum bashing on teambhp turns out to be a hit. Kia has definitely priced the top variants above the competition but they are giving more features and practicality compared to the competition. Moreover, I think Kia is interested in selling mid variants which are more value for money and offer good equipment list.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Top variant is 22+ Lakhs OTR in most of the cities, very costly IMHO. Not sure why anyone will spend such a huge amount for a car which looks like a "Dabba" (Can) ?

Personally I would buy Jeep Compass base variant rather than going for this odd looking car. Jeep Compass base model is real value for money which offers top notch build quality along with all necessary safety and convenience features. Also it has much more powerful 2.0 liter diesel engine and it has timeless design.

Let's see how people reacts to this pricing.

Re: Kia Syros Review

With Top Variant as 20+ OTR (as of today) - If one has so much of money why would he stay with Sub-4 Mtr, practically 4 seater car. Unless there is a special need for such car I would shift to say XUV 700 lower models in the same price range.
