Attaching a sample pic (X-Trail dead pedal). The left "dead" pedal is a boon on long drives. Can rest your left foot on it.

Hi, GTO what a review. It's crisp and to the point and the details of the car mentioned are which we find only after buying it and living with it for atleast 2 weeks! But i have couple of questions nagging me 1) how good is the AC or in other words how would you compare it to Vista's AC. 2) How is the performance of the headlights? Both of them are very important for me since i drive 70 per cent on highways. Thanks in advance

Another amazing review GTO . Was eagerly waiting for this one .

IMHO the reason Tata hangs on to the names Indica , Indigo , Sumo is that they are inspired by European companies like Volkswagen , Ford Eyrope etc . For eg we see different generations of Golf ,Focus ,Mondeo .They want to express continuity and improvement . Ofcourse they have to add subtitles like Vista , Manza as they want to sell both generations together . Its like calling a Skoda Laura a Skoda Octavia Laura .

I have a small suggestion . Next time you could put up a side by side pictures of the two generations of cars like Indigo/Manza , ANHC/NHC (like you have put of Manza and Vista ) .

Manza seems to be all set to improve brand Tata , but to beat Maruti Suzuki they need to wrestle that JD Power Customer Satisfaction award from them . That said sales should be good but I dont reckon it will better the Dzires sales .

Wonderul review as always. I do have one question though and please pardon my ignorance but what does the following statement mean? Can someone please care to explain it in detail? Does it mean single car has been driven for 23 lakhs km?
"The Manza has undergone 23 lakh kms of testing; that’s over and above the Vista’s 25 lakh kms of testing."

KRf1 - I agree with you

Initially I was upset with the name 'Indigo' Manza, but wait for 1 or 2 generations more of Indica/Indigo series cars. I would love to see these two cars competing directly with the global leaders. Let's wait and watch

@anonymous - Since both the cars are made on same platform you can say it has undergone 48L KM road testing (23 Manza + 25 Vista)

Thanks GTO for the lovely review. It's nice to see Tata grow up and offer better products. As you and everyone else here has mentioned the fit and finish could be better and if they do so I am sure it will give substantial competition to not only the other cars in it's segment but also to cars atleast 2 segments higher.

great review GTO!

about Tata planning to/not selling the manza to taxi folks - is that necessarily a good thing? these are guys who have brought indicas/indigos in great numbers and have great faith in the VFM offerings. And the manza only has more of what they want- more mileage, more space and more quality.

sure, Tata wants to go up-market and grab all the dzire customers, but IMHO any reason to be so 'rigid'? the hardcore i-swear-by maruti won't anyway come, all others looking for such a sedan would need only a test-drive to be convinced!

Could be because the Euro version makes 10 more bhp at 100. But I fail to understand why so...........when they can afford to put it on the cheaper Vista 1.2.

Its a contraption that masks 1 of 2 intake ports at low rpm. Helps improve response and low rpm drivability. I think the Corolla has it too.

Right from the Car's prototype, various combinations of chassis, engines, suspensions, ABS, then everything put together is tested in various cars, say 10 to 20 test cars at different test conditions, geographic conditions from hot desert countries to Ice cold Norway and Indian potholes

with 10 cars averaging 2 lac each or 20 cars averaging 1 lac each is put together to 23 lac KMs test.

Pretty sure those are equivalent miles and not actual miles.
For example 10k miles on a MIRA course will be equivalent to 1 lakh road miles based on damage co-releation.

Great impressive review

I had test driven diesel varient of Manza yesterday, the ride quality is really great and nothing i can complain about ( to my knowledge). I have noticed the height adjustable lever touches the seat adjustable lever which is placed just behind it, in my test drive car i found ther's already a mark happened due to rubbing of seat adjuster against height adjuster lever ( might be fitting issues), i guess TATA should have maintained sufficient gap between these two ( Has any one noticed this in other test drive cars?).

Also the test drive car at Mysore Road Concorde Bangalore had problem with the air direction adjuster, though i adjusted the knob to different positions the air comes only through the front four air windows and was not being deviated to other positions ( Should be specific to this particular car and this point might be useful during pre-delivery inspection to others)

Over all a great car and might pick one soon.

Grrreat review GTO!!! More detailed and more realistic than any automags. Fantastic.

Manza will give a tough time not only to Dzire/Linea/Verna/City/Fiesta but also to pricey hatches like i20, Fabia. After all Indians, like Americans and unlike Europeans, prefer sedan over a hatch and if a sedan is loaded more and costs less than the hatch, then most would prefer sedan.

And I don't understand this taxi fixation with Tata cars that some crib about. Tell me which luxury car these days is not used as a taxi. One can see Camry, Corolla, Accord, Skoda even latest model Mercs and BMWs as taxis right here in any big city in Inida. And not to mention countless Innovas and Scorpios as taxis. But no one complains about that or minds that. They only complain about Tata products.

Awesome review. I had gone to the TATA showroom today to check out the Fiat Punto for my better half. After getting all the details (Actually the showroom personnel should be updated with team-bhp as they really lack lot of information) on my way out to check out the colours of the car waiting to be delivered i saw TATA MANZA. I like the looks and the price of the car is fantastic. Unfortunately they did not have a test drive vehicle. I was informed that it will come within a week. I have decided to test drive both the vehicle before making my decision. Now after reading your review i think i have taken a wise decision. Will update after i test drive. Cheers.

Hi guys,
I think TATA having put in this much effort to give us a better product would have also put in some effort to improve their A.S.S.

Started a thread at mod section for tire and wheel upgrades for Manza .

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-a...de-thread.html

Feel free to comment and suggestions are welcome.

@ GTO , Will slipping the clutch at lower gears to get more RPM and BHP harm the engine or the clutch plate in any way as you have mentioned, is the only way to overcome turbo lag at lower gears.
