Mr.Beat, I require one info from you. I own a beat diesel LS (2011). I face a problem during when I start my car after leaving it for few long hours. For instance, when I start my car in the morning after parking it previous night, the car starts only after few cranks. Once done, the whole day during intermittent start-stops, I don't face the issues. I complained about this to the service station and they mentioned that they have fixed the alternator wiring in my last service. After few days it started again to show up. Could you let me know if this was the same issue that you faced? and if not, what could be the reason for my car's issue? my advanced thanks for any pointers here.

Thanks Salbin, I got an update from Emperor Cochin that they have stock and quoting 5.5K! Am waiting for a decent deal on a distributor level which I may get this week. Will update you once I get it installed. I don't want to fiddle with the stock CAI with a custom made universal filter as am doubtful about the outcome.

Did they check the battery? This problem used to occur in my mom's car. It left me stranded eventually on my birthday last year.

Changed the battery and it disappeared.

Yes abhishek, the battery is certified as healthy. I even checked with them is that it needs a replacement. They told not required. Probably when i take my car for the next service (due in another 800 kms, (37500kms)) and lodge this as repeated complaint, I guess they will ask me to change the battery

Re: Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review

And, the problem persists!

I am sure this is a battery problem somehow. This problem started after i had given jump start to a colleague in office. Any idea what is the cost of new battery?

On another note, the problem is only when i start the car in the morning and i never ever face this issue. Anything else can be suspected ?

The spark plugs were changed only about 6 months back during the 3rd service.

I'll get it checked for sure

Re: Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review

Was enjoying sleepy/lazy Sunday winter blues as usual under warm blanket around 10.00AM, wifey pulled the blanket and informed that fellow Flat mate has to take out his car parked ahead of ours.

While reversing the car (it's a slope from our ground floor parking) I clearly noticed the projection of gate's lock above (approx 1 cms) my left ORVM edge. I had did it many times and continued reversing. There is enough gap that the ORVM can easily pass below the projection. But out of nowhere a kid appear behind the car (that too after the reverse parking alarm firing it's irritating toto, toto, toto) and I had to hard brake. Since it was a slope and due the vertical movement of front of that car, the ORVM which was about to pass that projection hit by the edge and following is the aftermath

Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review-dsc_0284.jpg

Not a single scratch outside

Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review-dsc_0285.jpg

The plastic locks inside the cover has broken.

Checked with service centre and got a . White casing is not available separately. Need to change the entire housing of ORVM sans mirror and mechanism and that too comes only in black color. Rs.1250/- for housing and Rs.350/- for painting the case. Total cost of carelessness Rs.1600/-

But, thank God. A friend helped me to source the part and cost me less than 1/3rd of the original cost.

It is high time that GM India should stop fleecing their customers. The case is clearly a child part and they can easily sell the part for Rs.150 to 250 excluding the painting.

NB: I will retain the old cover and believe it can be reused with help of some superglue like Quickfix

Cheers!

Re: Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review

I too had the same problem- the best solution is suggested by Salbin: Use double side sticky tape generously and stick the cover back. Works like a charm!!

Dont buy the spare, use 3M double sided tape in multi-layer.
Mine had broken into two pieces and I was able to fix both the pieces - luckily the cracked portion was facing inwards, so it is difficult to find-out.
I had used this to fix the number plate, door sill plates and also the DRLs.

It will also be useful for lot of other household use.

How do we change the bulbs/LEDs inside the knobs of Head Unit and AC controls?

You need to remove the center console fascia and then remove the HU front panel (no need to remove the HU). Again the front panel of the HU need to be opened for accessing the bulbs. I have not tried opening to that extent.
Here is the pic of the HU front panel:

The AC control panel also can be removed like this:

It will be difficult to access the bulbs.
I doubt if GM gives spare support up to chile part levels.
In case of any issue, they just replace the whole thing..

I think the bulbs are inside the knobs. Can we pull the knob like we pull the ceiling fan's regulator knob?

Do you have backside/inside pics of panels?

Cheers!

I did not try opening the AC knobs.
If you are trying, be extremely careful while pulling-out. If anything breaks, it will be difficult to get replacement part and you will be forced to replace the entire sub assembly.

BTW, you want to replace damaged bulb or change the bulb for a different colour?

Nope, just brainstorming session. What if bulb go kaput?

Another query regarding coolant.

Coolant level (before cold start) in my coolant tank was around 1.5cms above minimum level mark throughout since May 2010 till July 2013. It has never changed irrespective of KMs or driving conditions.

But, post my water pump replacement http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offici...ml#post3244336 the coolant level (before cold start) is settling mere 0.2 - 0.3cms above minimum level mark even if topped up above 1.5 cms mark. There is no visible leak or dripping at parking below the car. There is no over heating, clatter or anything abnormal from engine side.

SA Somnath said that it is normal and if I am too concerned I can add clear water (up to 100ml). GM typically use Ethylene Glycol(organic acid type long life coolant).

What is your opinion on this?

Why coolant level is dropping without a leak?

Is adding water (up to 100ml) safe?

Do I need to buy Ethylene Glycol and how much it costs per liter? Is it easily available outside Service Center?

Current coolant level after top-up (ODO 25177)

Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review-coolant-tank.jpg

Will be in observation for two weeks and planning to check at service center if coolant level drops.

Cheers!
