Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

When you have someone as wonderful as Christopher, it is quite easy to execute one's plan.

Like most old British cars, the DB18 comes with Semaphores. The look wonderful and they are quite precious. For people who see this for the first time, in their excitement, they tend to manually push it back. This could severely compromise the functioning of the semaphores.

These do not flash
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-5.jpg

In the modern world, most road users in modern vehicles, cannot be expected to be aware of semaphores. Most road users are used to seeing flashers in the front and rear. In the early mornings or late evenings when still dark, the need for indicators is even more acute, as two wheeler are zipping around you.

I decided to install indicators, so as to improve the road safety my fellow road users and also myself. After much thought, I decided on the KTM Duke 390 flashers, as they are LED and also very sleek. These bright flashers could be easily integrated into the bumper.

Christopher has done a great job of integrating this on the bumper. Picture of the rear fitting

Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-2.jpg

As you can see in the front, from far, you can hardly make out the flasher unit
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-3.jpg

The LED Flashers are quite bright. The picture shows the flasher working
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-4.jpg

I have not integrated this to the semaphores, as I wanted them to flash and at the same time I will preserve the semaphores too.

These connections can be easily removed, should the car be required to go for any judging competition.

Cheers

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

Over the weekend drove over to Whitefield and visited a new friend in an old house! BHPian Srinand was with me in the Daimler and Tonrag, being a Whitefield resident joined us in his MGTC

The house is more than 100 years old and it was fantastic chatting up on anything old and antique. With Tonrag around there is never a dull moment as we heard stories and chatted on cars, railways, clocks and anything old.

The hosts gave us fantastic Rose cookies and coffee, which made the time spent even more gratifying.

The 100 year old house is on the Innner Circle at Whitefield and is quite a celebrity on its own right

We took to opportunity to surprise another Whitefield resident, Diamler enthusiast and KVCCC President, Sulaiman Jamal. As usual he was an excellent host

A very English village setting I must say and as beautiful as it comes - the tiled roof house, the flowers in bloom, those oh so gorgeous cars and the enthusiats. Rounded off with tea and biscuits!!! :

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

It was a typical spring day in Bangalore. Thankfully, in spite of all the environmental damage done in Bangalore in the name of development, some things don't change. Paul's house, named appropriately, 'Perfect Peace', is one such place. Time stands still in this little haven, owned by squirrels and magpie robins and let out to Paul and his mom, Merlyn. What better sight than to see Subbaiah's regal and much loved DB-18 in the long driveway? When I got a call that Subbaiah and Srinand were on their way, it took no time to rev up the old TC and zip down to Paul's place.

What I like immensely about Subbaiah is that he doesn't cosset his cars in a garage. The Daimler gets driven well. It was an unforgettable experience to travel back from Sandur in that beauty, in mid-December. Hopefully, there will be more drives as summer advances, and then again, when the rains wash the Deccan Plateau.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

Hi All,

Its been a fantastic journey for me personally with this Daimler, having seen the car from the time the car came out of its long term storage into the well deserved ownership of KPS, its been a beautiful journey that just keeps getting better!

Not many would have the patience to wait for 4 years with the patience that KPS has demonstrated, with immense attention to detail about every single aspect of the car. That attention to detail translated into fantastic work by both Christopher and Pankaj! The end result is just mind blowing. So much so, that every opportunity there has been of doing a drive, i have chosen more often to be a passenger in the Daimler than drive myself!!

The ride in the car is nothing short of making one feel like royalty, although some dear friends have had the experience of being chauffeured around in the luxury of the rear seat. I have felt undeserving of that seat as yet and have been extremely happy restricting myself to the 'shotgun' seat.

I look forward to some wonderful journeys along with this amazing car and the lovely owner!

regards,

Srinand.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

KPS, I've finally read the full thread & am in awe at the dedication & the commitment that you've given to the Daimler.

Having seen firsthand the love your father, you & indeed your whole family shower on your Plymouth & Beetle & other cars, the Daimler couldn't be luckier to find such a fine family as custodians!

The extreme high quality work & outcome is indeed inspiring apart from the fact that you're actually regularly using the freshly restored car. Amazing, just amazing!

My congratulations to Chris, Pankaj, your family & you for achieving the best outcome for the Daimler!

For me, a planned trip to Bangalore just became a whole lot easier!

Best,

PNT

Your unrelenting commitment for the use of your V&C cars over the last 30 years, has been inspirational for me and members of KVCCC. Fact that you still regularly drive your cars and that breakdowns have never deterred you, are very inspirational to people like me. I have had the luxury of Rodricks Restorations, so my fear of breakdowns is minimal. Look forward to some great drives with you.

My multiple discussions with you over this restoration and that fact that you were as involved in this journey has been fantastic. Chris, Pankaj and you have shown more commitment to this car than even me! It was this involvement that kept me fully focused on the level of restoration.

This pictures says it all. Srinand, pushes the car as it goes for painting!

Thanks PNT. The Daimler has been a very satisfying experience and I am glad I have been able to document it fully in this thread. Will look forward to you spending time at my home in Bangalore. Last time you were here, it was before your epic journey from Mysore to Kolkata in your 1963 Fiat Super Select, Bella.

As usual, Bangalore in spring blooms. With cool morning weather, the blooms and less traffic makes the drive through CBD an enjoyable experience

The Tebubuia Rosea makes a very colourful spectacle due to its sheer size. The are roads, where these trees are in bloom. What a satisfying sight.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

FHVI had an event in association with Karnataka Forest Department. The event was flagged of from Vidhana Soudha. KVCCC was one of the main participants in this event.

Another well organised event from the FHVI, with Doc Ravi and family making extra efforts to make the event a grand success

I went in the Daimler with my father.

The Daimler has featured in the September'21 issue of MOTORING WORLD. Had a fantastic interaction with Pablo Chaterji, Executive Editor, Motoring World.
