My S1 is with Floor gear from Nissan. To replace the pressure plate and clutch plates, my mechanic removed the gearbox in less than 10 minutes. No need to touch engine to get the gearbox out.

If the gearbox setup is similar to that of S1, it should be a pretty easy job to remove it without touching the engine.

If not, in my opinion, your mechanic is not knowledgeable or may be taking you for a ride.

By the way, whats the problem with the gearbox? If the gearbox is exactly the same like in S1's and 118NE's, may be you should find a good one from scrap and replace it instead of repairing the existing one. You should find them in plenty in scrapyard.

In my car I did the engine overhule recently and changed the gearbox that is from Fiat gearbox to Nissan gearbox. I also changed the clutch plate and pressure plate. Now while releasing the clutch it is giving me a jerk and clutch is also too hard. Some sound also coming from propeller saft. So my mechanic told me gearbox tail bearing and pressure plate has to be changed. After learning from you people i can not trust this mechanic. So if anybody in Hyderabd knows any good place please refer me.

Thanks

FCCH (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/post-1...abad-fcch.html) should be glad to help you find a more knowledgeable mechanic in Hyderabad.

We FCB guys were very lucky today to be gifted with this Book by a very senior person. He used to run a Authorized Service station for Premier cars. He is currently a advisor for Tata-Fiat service Centers.

Its service manual. Hopefully it will help for all Padmini owners.

I met this person in Tata Showroom when Sujith was taking his Punto delivery.

The book has 300 pages. Scanning it too is difficult as the binding might get screwed. Now I know why Adheesh could not scan it for us.

Anyways, I have made few photo copies of the book. I will courier to all you guys and may be scan from one of the copies too, after few days.

I am sure this is subjective depending on many things like how well is your suspension in maintained, how correctly is the alignment and balancing done and the type of roads you ply on.

Why do you want to change the steering wheel? Is it damaged or what.Although its very difficult to find a new one nowadays.
BTW the horn assembly present in this type of steering is available here(new one)
