But having read your posts (and those of sureshurs and csentil and akroy) on alternate routes especially Bangalore-Malur-Kolar, I want to know what would be the time/distance if we take this alternative malur-Kolar route. Like what if I take HSR-Sarjapur-Malur-Kolar? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Sharat, I think now the equations have changed. It is much easier to get on NH4 as early as possible, since its a 4L now.
Last year there were lots slush due to rain and diversions.

Now the easiest option is:

HSR-ORR-Marathahalli-Old Airport Road-Varthur-Road-NH4.

Outer Ring Rd to NH 4 - Google Maps

re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

Thanks a lot, Ampere for the inputs and the map.

Will take the SH35 route now (usually i go through KR puram cable stayed bridge which was cumbersome especially after 7am).

So my route would be:
HSR-ORR-Marathahalli-Old Airport Road-Varthur Road-NH4.

For return, I am thinking of coming via madanapalli, just to have some value addition for kids..read horseley hills :-). have you tried that route any time? Im checking on BHP threads as well to see if I can get some info on that.

Sarjapur Road to Varthur Road
Varthur Road to NH4
NH4 - Kolar - Palamaner -Chitoor Byepass - Renigunta - Srikalahasthi - Nayadupeta - NH5
NH-5-Nellore-Ongole

I want to reach hopefully by 3:00 PM in the afternoon. Need some suggestions

- Is the route OK? I posted here as I thought this was the closest thread
- appropriate places to break for bfst/coffee/Lunch etc. Would appreciate if I could find Cafe Coffee Day / Equivalents i.e. quick, clean.
- how should I time this, if I need to be at Ongole by 3:00 PM i.e. approximate time I should be at intermediate destinations?
- Anything I should look out for...?

Thanks in advance. Will update conditions when I am back.
Hi rohing, after taking quick inputs from ampere, I have decided to take the route you mentioned in the post (ORR-Varthur-NH35-NH4). But on return, I'm thinking of taking tirupathi-madanapalli-chintamani route for a change.

I have not driven, but have read here that its good. Check post #209 by Ravi.
The road is very good and has less traffic too.

But just that you wont find any decent place to break on the way.

Thanks NPV, Spadix and Ampere. Will update once I get back.

Hi Sharat70 - The only diff is that I was planning on taking Sarjapur road to varthur road. There is a shortcut, where in you could cut through to vartur road from near the railway crossing on Sarjapur road. Not sure which is the faster option?

I have been here in 2010. Stayed for 2 nights and also parked the car since I had to walk to Tirumala. Had a very pleasant experience

Great hotel to stay in. We've stayed there a few times. Better than the Bheemas hotels, any day.

I would recommend eating at Mayura though. The food at Sindhura is good but not great.

spadix

When ever on a day trip, I always had lunch at Mayura. Amazing place.
And the fact that its walking distance from bus stand was even better. Have a hearty lunch, hop on to a Volvo and sleep till Bangalore !

Re: Bangalore- Ongole via Tirupathi

Thanks to everyone who helped me with the route. Drove Bangalore to Ongole last week and wanted to update the road conditions -

Sarjapur Road to Varthur Road
Varthur Road to NH4

Road is good. I left home (Sarjapur Road/Outer ring road jn) at 6:30am. Traffic had picked up but not bad. This exit route was good when traffic is lite but rethink if the timing was different

NH4 - Kolar -

Road is good. Beware of speed breakers while leaving Bangalore city. There is Kamat & later a Cafe Coffee day (near Kolar)

Palamaner -Chitoor Byepass - Renigunta
Road is OK until Tirupati. Except for the Chitoor byepass piece. However, that is a small bit and certainly tolerable

- Srikalahasthi - Nayadupeta
Lot of construction activity but certainly tolerable

- NH5
NH-5-Nellore-Ongole
Very good double lane highway. In Nayadupeta don't take a left toward vijayawada. Instead take right toward chennai...you will reach the highway faster. If you take the left you go on narrow road for 3-4 kms before you reach the highway. It is faster to take the right, reach the highway and cover the small extra distance on the highway

I want to reach hopefully by 3:00 PM in the afternoon. Need some suggestions

Started at 6:30am reached Ongole (510 kms) at 1:30. Had a 30 minute break in between. I would recommend this route.

Thanks in advance. Will update conditions when I am back.
done

Wow! 510 km in 7 hours is definitely fast! 70km on an average is definitely
very good especially on the Tirupathi route.

re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

Folks,
I've to attend a wedding reception at Tirpathi tomorrow sunday 16 Oct, we just decided to leave early morning around 4am so that we can visit the temple in the morning and then attend the reception in the evening.
Need help on couple of things:
1. How are the crowds this week (will we be able to get darshan in about 3-4 hrs in Seegradarshan ?)
2. Any suggested fuel stations near Hoskote that will be open around 4.30-5am ?

Appreciate if somone could respond quickly (have just few hours before I leave).
