@LDL. NH17 will hold good for sometime. The damage in that route is mostly due to illegal mining lorries and not the rains as such. There's been a crack down on those illegal mining trucks for sometime now. Expect bad stretches between Ankola and Karwar and Bhatkal in the Karnataka side of NH17.
Also Mangalore to Kundapura will be painfully long travel due to high traffic density.
Goa side of NH17 should hold good. Ratnagiri to Mahad should also have good roads. Mahad - Panvel might become another pain area.

Ashish, thanks for the update.
Isn't this closure unusual, does it face problems every year?

Every year, varandha is closed two-three times due to landslide.
The road from nira devghar to varandha is realigned due to submersion of old road in the backwater of dam.
The excavated sides of hill facing road are not settled yet fully, so this problem erupts.

All the roads you have mentioned are excellent and fast throughout the year. Last year, due to some unusual heavy rains, roads in the Barmer region were flooded, roads impassable and damaged.

Hi All,

Any update about the route from Pune to kolkata?
I doing it in 3 phases:
1. Pune to Nagpue: Pune-Aurangabad-Jalna-Mehkar-karanja-Wardha-Nagpur.
2. Nagpur to Durg: I remeber that 4 laning work is in progress about 70% complete.
I have driven by Road till durg/raipur so pune to durg is no concern for me.

3. Durg to Kolkata: Durg-Raipur-Sambalpur-Deogarh-Barakot-kendujhar-Kharagpur-kolkata. I need suggestions on this route.?
Please suggest me planning/schedule/lodge for this route as i am thinking to do it in 2 days. Since the area is bit troubled(as per news) i wont be driving after 7.00 PM.

Will be starting early in morning around 4.00 for each phase.

Thanks,
Shabbir

The road till Raipur is OK, but once you enter Orissa, the roads are in a very bad condition even before the rains have begun seriously. Expect further deterioration in quality of roads.

Safety issues - thanks to Naxal problems - is between Jashipur and Kharagpur, and even by day, vehicles are going only in convoy.

You can target reaching Raipur on Day 1 from Pune (possible in 15-17 hours, long driving day), so that you can get to Kharagpur next day latest by 3-4 pm.

From Raipur/Durg, it will be difficult to cross Kharagpur before 7 pm if the roads slow you down, but in normal circumstances you can.

Places to stay:
- Hotel Sheela Palace, Sambalpur, although you should cross Sambalpur by mid-morning
- Hotel Shreekshetra International, Keonjhar

Not sure of stay options at Jashipur. After that, you won't get any place to stay till Kharagpur.

Thanks for your reply, hvkumar.

With an early start from Udaipur, is it possible to make Sri Ganganagar in Punjab by late afternoon / early evening ?

You can assume that we will have a vehicle capable of cruising at 120-130 all day, road / traffic conditions permitting.

Cheers,
