Gudalur-Nilambur

Road is in great form, especially after crossing into Kerala. Best way to go to Kerala, especially if you wish to link up to Nh17 (to Cochin, via Edappal) or further south on Nh47 or M C Road (via Palakkad).

Mumabi-Puttaparthi(Anantapur District A.P.)-Mumbai Trip (15th Aug-19th Aug 2008)

Mumbai-Pune-Kolhapur-Belgam-Dharwad-Hubli-Haveri-Ranebennur-Harihar-Davengere-Chitradurga-Challakera-Pavagada-Penukonda-Puttaparthi (1000 Kms)

NH4 - Roads are great all the way upto 10kms before Ranebennur. From then on upto Chitradurga there are a few diversions and the roads are bad in those sections (but did manage to do it with 4 people and luggage in a car as low as the OHC). I would say that a total of 10-15 kms of the 100 kms patch from Ranebennur to Chitradurga was not so good, but the rest was great. Driving time on NH4 was11-12 hrs.

Going off the NH4 at Chitradurga onto the Challakere road was also good but did take 4 hrs to cover the 200km distance up to Puttaparthi since it was a very narrow road. Road condition in this patch was also good, very few rough patches.

Took the same route back to Mumbai. Had similar road conditions.

The trip was great and possible only with the help of Kumar Sir.

Panvel to shil phata roads are really bad

Panvel to shil phata is in a pathetic condition. There is no road left. My Baleno scraped the bottom in quite a few places with 2 adults and 2 kids in the back seat. I saw a Civic turn back -- there was no way it could have gone with 2 or 3 people in the back seat.

They are doing repairs and should be done in a week or two from now considering that this is a toll road.

The road from Shil phata to Dombivli/Kalyan is in good condition.

Himachal

The Tribune, Chandigarh, India - Himachal Pradesh Edition
Reported in Tribune, Aug 18

Shimla, August 17

Hundreds of trucks were stranded in the apple belt in the upper Shimla area as numerous landslides triggered by incessant rain blocked all major roads.

Rohru, Chopal and some other areas in the upper Shimla region became inaccessible from the state capital as a massive landslide blocked the main road near Chhaila. The road leading to Solan from Sainj was also blocked by landslides. The road connecting Uttarakhand from Tiuni was also blocked.

In the adjoining Sirmaur district, the Paonta-Shilai road was blocked between Sataun and Kamrou. The Chandigarh-Bilaspur national highway was blocked at Swarghat for sometime. There have been several instances of traffic disruption on the highway over the past fortnight as debris generated by mining activity was washed down on to the road. Several other roads in the apple belt were blocked by landslips.
Rain has affected telecom services severely. Both landline and mobile connectivity in Kinnaur, Rampur and parts of Shimla district was affected. In Shimla, some landlines connection were out of order for the past three days. Power supply was also affected as uprooted trees snapped transmission lines at some places.

HV - just made the trip to Kolkata from Pune. posted a detailed reply on another thread, but to summarise the section between Sambalpur to Keonjhar is terrible, mostly, 220 kms odd - takes about 7 to 8 hours. Now looking for an alternate route to get back to Pune. Was thinking of Kolkata - Vijaywada via GQ and then Vijaywada to Hyderabad to Pune. Any feedback on this new route even though it will surely be a couple of 100 kms more, but i dont mind to avoid the Orissa section of the NH6 - they are simply terrible.

Kolkata - Pune - via Vijaywada and Hyderabad

Drove from Pune to Kolkata last week through the normal route of NH-6, but as reported earlier, the Orissa section of Sambalpur-Keonjhar and others is just terrible...so, i prefer to try some other route.

At this point, i want to follow this..

Kolkata to Vijag - via GQ - NH5 ( any updates after flood etc ? , feasible in a day under current conditions ? ? )

Vijag - Hyderabad - through Vijaywada - partially on GQ NH5 , partially on NH9 from Vijaywada onwards ( can anyone please guide on road conditions on NH9 between Vijaywada to Hyderabad ? )

Hyderabad - Pune - i heard a few months back is quite good , but again, updates will be welcome..

any advice will be welcome, this route is longer than my earlier one, but i dont mind if the roads are good, the last trip was just terrible for us and the car..more worried about the car to be honest..

Regards & safe driving
Sanjay

Palakkad-Kochi, Kerala

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1394499-post659.html
The worst part was Palghat-Angamaly. Lots of potholes, broken tarmac. It seems, for some time, will have to be happy driving through Kumily entry point rather than palghat as roads are sure to become worse now.

monsoon has taken the toll! My friend who drove from BLR to TCR last weekend says, he took close to 4 hrs from walayar to TCR.

Heavy rains take toll of 11 in Madhya Pradesh

CAUTION FOR THOSE TRAVELLING ON NH3 & NH12

Bhopal, July 23 (IANS) At least 11 people have died in the heavy rains lashing Madhya Pradesh for the third consecutive day Thursday, officials here said.
Some roads have been blocked temporarily due to the overflowing of rivers and streams at several places.

“While three people died of electrocution while trying to drain water from their houses in Mhow (near Indore), eight people were killed in Indore”, Collector Rakesh Shrivastava told IANS.

Three other people were swept away in Chhindwara district Wednesday.

Meanwhile, thousands of tourists are left stranded at Matkuli near Hoshangabad district, close to the Panchmarhi hill station, due to the overflowing of Denwa river. The area has received 290 mm rainfall since Wednesday.

A high alert has been declared in Indore and the state has ordered closure of all schools and colleges, said Pipariya District Commissioner S.B. Singh.
