Central Kerala again

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1410127-post682.html

as posted by unni.ak in the above thread:

Kerala roads are bad. Palakkad to Angamaly is in bad condition. Aroor to Cherthala 4-lane is also bad. Why do we use water-soluble tar?!!

So, if some one is planning to take Salem - Coimbatore - Cochin route, please try an alternative. If you have a SUV, the route is ok. But for sedans and small cars, its torture.

Road to Manglore & Shimoga

Charmadi Ghat road is closed for the next 3 months.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1407794-post774.html

But there is a contradictory report too here:
Charmadi it seems, is holding up very well. They say that they had a hassle free ride all the while.

Shimoga - Theerthally route was submerged till last week (Due to heavy rain in Gajanur/Mandagadde area), but now it's all right to travel in this route

NH17, Goa-Mangalore

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1403432-post1.html

The roads are great till the goa border. Enter Karnataka and bang we landed in a pot hole moments we crossed the border. The roads were aweful. We averaged 30Kms thru the drive so u can imagine.Tarkarli to Managlore is just around 290 Km as per my trip log but this too us close to 12 hrs to finish with the roads and the heavy rain and chaotic traffic.

Assam & Arunachal

North Assam, South Assam & Arunachal

NH37 Blocked; Landslide cuts off road link :
Surface communication between lower and upper Assam and Meghalaya was disrupted since 6 am yesterday after the NH-37 was blocked by landslide and deluge between Jorabat and Sonapur near Morigaon, stranding hundreds of vehicles. Heavy rains in the hills had resulted in landslide, and knee-deep water overtopped the highway at Jorabat point,

Vehicular Movement across the following three bridges has been severely affected due to damage caused to them as a result of incessant rains and land slides near Lakhimpur Districts in Assam & Dhemaji District in Arunanchal Pradesh:

1.. A Bridge on NH - 52, near Pohumara (North Lakhimpur) has been badly damaged. FROM TODAY ONWARDS VEHICULAR MOVEMENT WITH 18 MT GROSS WEIGHT IS ALLOWED TO MOVE THROUGH THE BRIDGE.
2.. A Samajan Wooden bridge between North Lakhimpur & Dhemaji, near Bardaloni has been washed away. Affected Areas: Vehicular movement from North Lakhimpur to Sliapathar , Pasighat, Along, Zero and Daprijo has been stalled.
3.. A Bridge 2 KMs away from NHPC Gate at Gerukhamukh (Lower Subansiri: between Gogamukh and NHPC) has also been damaged. A pillar of the bridge has gone down due to Landslides' in the region.
It may take 4 - 5 Days time for the PWD to get these bridges repaired, and that too if there is no rainfall in the region.

NH4A between Belgaum & Ponda,Goa is another usual suspect so is the NH9 between Sangareddy & Solapur.Driving between Pune & Bhigwan on NH9 is going to be another mean task considering that the stretch is all dug up now for widening.

Not pune-bhigwan but yavat-indapur.[ yavat is town 50 km away from pune in solapur direction].

Though the road widening is going on, right now, it is good enough for monsoon.[ But who knows condition during monsoon].
Expect low/medium traffic as sugar mill season is ended in last week.

Other bad stretches to watch out for:
- NH4 bypass for Bombay via Kalamboli, Taloja, Shilphata, Mumbra & Kalwa
- NH8 between Ghodbunder & Manor
- Bombay/Pune-Goa road via Kolhapur, Ajra, Amboli

How are roads between Bangalore-Wayanad-Coimbatore during rains. Are they generally motorable? Can somebody suggest best options?

Bangalore-Wayanad:
Road can deteriorate after Nanjangud.
The ghat road from Kalpetta down to Kozhikode/Calicut also has potholes and bad sections on teh hairpin bends.

Wayanad-Coimbatore:
Route via Nilambur is good.
Gudalur area sometimes has bad roads.
If going via Ooty, the Gudalur-Ooty-Conoor road has been of late seeing some bad times every monsoon.

Sir,
This is getting some concerns for us too. Though not worried too much. As we intend to take NH17 on our return journey from Udupi through Goa to Mumbai, and then NH8, is any serious rain blockage is expected towards the end of June. Though, even met dept. doesn't know what's going to happen tomorrow, thanks to global warming; yet some intelligent guesses plz, based on experiences. Today we saw news Jaisalmer, Bikaner are suffering with serious floods!! What not to expect then these days!!

LDL,

There is never any road blockade anywhere on your route.

NH17 break-up will take some time as the monsoon progresses. Should be OK when you travel.

In KL, rarely are any of the hill roads closed due to landslides, except maybe for a few hours. In any case, there are several alternative routes.

On NH8, except for one small section between Valsad and Navsari, no other place gets affected by rains. Even in this stretch, roads rarely break up. However, expect some bad roads between Ghodbunder and Manor.
