NH3 : Gwalior-Indore

See the following link:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...tml#post903465

As usual, roads leading from Delhi to Indore via Gwalior, Shivpuri and Guna are in a terrible shape.

The roads are fabulous upto Aasanur except for about 50 mts at Thimbam, even the Thimbam ghats are holding fine. It starts deteriorating after the Tamilnadu border with some really bad stretches before Chamarajanagar, I think this route should be avoided if there are other options available. In the same context I have to say that the stretch between Gudalur and Ooty also has been done up and its good in most places except near Naduvattom where one top layer needs to be done, one can take this stretch without any doubts, also the Ooty - Kotagiri - Mettupalayam route as well.

Orissal Roads update

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/906448-post16.html

Please see the above link - the GQ after crossing the AP border at Ichchapuram into Orissa is a total disaster all the way to Kharagpur. Appears that NH60 from Balasore is still closed. And NH5 via Baripada is also in a bad shape. No improvement in the congestion in the Jharkhand border at Jamshola.

Looks like NH5/NH60 is going to be out of running for quite some time.

Mumbai - orissa road update> (LIVE UPDATE - 16/17-07-08)
Mumbai - Nasik - dhule > good roads.
Jalgaon - Amravati > partly good on the toll sections and partly patched up tarmac and badly potholed sections and some uneven tarmac sections.
Amravati - Nagpur > Toll road 4 laned and 50 kms of superb stretch... rest is partly broken and partly under construction with many diversions.. some unmarked.(in short - terrible)
Nagpur - Bhandara > good roads
Bhandara - Raipur > good roads with very few potholes.
Raipur - Sohela >100% bad roads.(v v terrible & pathetic)
Sohela - Sambalpur > 50 % bad roads with very bad potholes(again pathetic).
Sambalpur - Angul - Dhenkanal > very good roads with few potholes passing through forest and beautiful greenery, heavy rains. Very few dhabas and other pit stops availabla on the way. Saw a full team of army in action in the forest between Sambalpur & Angul.
Angul - Dhenkanal> semi bad roads with many huge invisible potholes.
Dhenkanal- Choudwar > badly potholed road with heavy truck & bus & local traffic.
Choudwar - Cuttack - Bhubaneswar > 4 laned GQ road v good roads with heavy local & interstate truck & bus traffic.

Any idea how the roads between Sambalpur-Keonjhar-Kharagpur are? Looks like they must be also bad. Bad news for those driving from West to East India, both eas coast route as well as central india routes are bad.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/895315-post1.html

Above post talks of some bad roads bettween Gundulpet and Bandipur, but good roads from there to Gudalur.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/858734-post1.html

Above post reconfirms that roads between Ooty-Gudulur-Mudumalai-Bandpur are also good, execept for a few bad sections.

No update on Sultan's Battery-Gudalur.

I did the Chamrajanagar - Gundlupet road, it was decent with speed breakers at quite a few places, I did this stretch at about 11 in the night and did it comfortably. It's doable at about 60/70 kmph comfortably, but one needs to watch out for speed breakers, most of it are marked though and a few pot holes in some stretches.

Reported in Tribune India newspaper:

Roads blocked due to rain
Our Correspondent
Nahan, August 9
Due to heavy and continuous rain in the district for the past three days most roads connecting rural areas with main road were closed for traffic as heavy rains triggered landslides.

Residents were facing tough time as their cash crops like tomato and other vegetables were rotting in fields in the absence of a transport system.

The Paonta-Shillai road was closed for the traffic as illegal mining on roadside have created havoc in the area. This time the road has closed at Hevna where debris of the illegal mining have blocked the traffic. Last month also the traffic was repeatedly interrupted, including once for a week and for three days between Sataun and Kamrou village, due to the mining which have caused heavy damage to the road.

The Nahan-Renuka road remained closed for more than eight hours as the landslides blocked the road near Badolia bridge. The road could be opened for the traffic in the evening. More than 12 buses of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation were stranded in the rural areas, a spokesperson said.

Landslide cuts Barog from world
Pradeep Sharma and Ambika Sharma

Barog, August 7
Barog was partially cut off from the rest of the world with the state highway being closed to traffic since early morning today after a massive landslide triggered by a recent downpour. The landslide occurred around 5.30 am. While three houses atop the hill got extensively damaged, two others developed cracks that rendered these unfit for habitation. Tourist resort Barog Heights had a narrow escape even as no loss of life was reported.
