  • Dwadasha Jyothirlinga (Omkar Hills)
  • Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Aalada Mara)
  • Daddamallur Aprameya Krishna Temple
In Maddur, we have a famous Dhanwantri Temple (God of medicine). Do visit this temple. This can be combined with Melkote and Srirangapatna in one day itself.

re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

A quick trip to Devarayanadurga - Roads are pretty good and a neat place for a short drive.
At the place, right at the foothill, there are well laid steps to reach up the Yoga Narasimhaswamy Temple. There are a few patches of road you will have to walk up as well. Do climb if you have time. Sunrise or any time before 9 is what you should plan. It takes about an hour from Yeshwantpur.

PS : Don't get confused with some steps that appear to be old as it has been cut off with a boulder somewhere in the middle. There is a clear marking for pedestrians to climb up.

A drive to Horseley Hills AP from Whitefield, Bangalore

Drove to Horseley Hills last Saturday from Whitefield, Bangalore.

Distance - 143 KMS
Route - Whitefield - Kadugodi - Hokote - Chintamani - Madanapally - Horseley Hills
Onward Journey

Start time - 6:00 AM
End Time - 8:30 AM

Return

Start time - 11:30 AM
End Time - 2:00 PM

Road Condition

You need to get off NH 4 after around 4 KMs from the first toll booth towards Chintamani. The road appears to be newly laid and is a wide 2 lane road. The issue is the large number of (marked) speed breakers. In fact there is a speed breaker at every small intersection. This is a pain. Hoskote - Chintamani is approximately 42 KMs.

Chintamani - Madanapally has some sections where the top layer has deteriorated. This road also has lot of speed breakers but not as much as Hoskote - Chintamani. Traffic is sparse.

Madanapally - Horseley hills has some traffic. Surface is good. The ghat section is narrow but traffic is very less. Did not encounter any other 4 wheler while going and coming back.

The place

There is a resort - Haritha Resorts run by AP tourism at this place. Looks decent. We had buffet break fast here. Food was decent for Rs 100/- per head. This place has facilities for team outing activities.

Apart from this, there is a park, a small zoo with some birds and a view point. The place is not crowded at all. We spent 2.5 hours here and returned.

Now some pics.

Hi Team-BHPians, here again with another query . Is there a place nearby Bangalore where I can take family and friends and organize a BBQ party? We have all the equipment for BBQ, we need a place outdoors where we can set up the oven (charcoal) and grill. We don't want to attract undue attention from local people; it'll be an evening/early night party and we'll have ladies & kids , so safety is very important. Outskirts of Bangalore is preferred as location. If you know of any person who lets out his/her garden or lawn for BBQ party, please pass on the contact info.

This is very doubtful. Firstly I am not how safe it would be conducting a BBQ part in open outside city with family? Best would be look for a good resort outside the city and arrange one there.

A few years ago we rented a decrepit farm house near Chennai for a week - precisely for the BBQ party for our office. Actually the party was for a day. But we rented the place for a week so that we could clean out the place and get the piped water to work. The rent we paid was not close enough to pay for the food of a couple.

You should be looking for a Farm house where you will get rest rooms, water supply, electricity, protection from unwanted guests and enough parking space.

Did any one visit Krishnagiri Park here ? Is it good for a family/friends day outing? How is the road condition from Bangalore? Is there restroom facilities for ladies and kids?

Haven't heard about this. Have not seen any such sign boards on the NH also.

Road condition is excellent with 6 lane roads all the way. Not sure of the last 3 - 4 kms after you exit the NH.

As far as the road goes, you have to take the Rayakottai-Krishnagiri road. It is a very good 2 lane road. After crossing Rayakottai, the road is pretty narrow. Then it widens itself to a very good 2 lane road.

The route shown by you is the best option. Regarding the last 5 kms leading to the park, I have no updates as I have not been there. I got this link from the net wherein somebody has been there before

Talakad Drive - Dec 2015
To Takalad : Kanakpura Road, was driving after many years on this stretch, road conditions continue to disappoint. Few directions but you wont get lost. Google Maps is always handy. Took us 3 hours.
Do Pack Breakfast.

At Talakad : Better to get there in the mornings. The weather was good. There is a covered walk way to all the temples. The river was crowded. Kids had fun on the sand and the coracle ride. We found a decent story teller (guide).
No good Restaurants. Google Maps took us to the back gate of Jaladhama, unfortunately they do not have a restaurant open for public. You need to stay or take a day package (1700/-)

To Bangalore : We decided to ditch the Kanakpura Road in search of a good restaurant in the Maddur - Mysore Road. The Drive from Malavalli to Maddur was horrible. This road has been under construction for ever..
Lunch at Adigas and drive back on Mysore Road took us 5 hours... including a good 2 hour jam in the city..

Neither a good drive nor a really great spot for all the trouble....

re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Planning a 1 day trip to Talakadu sometime during the last week of December 2015
Since kids and ladies are part of the group, preferred route is the Bangalore-Mysore highway for its availability of food and pitstop options. (Kanakapura road is ruled out)
What is the best route to take, based on the current road conditions ?
The previous post suggests that Maddur-Malavalli road condition is poor.
Is there an alternate route to Talakadu, with better road conditions, even if slightly (say, upto 30km) longer than the Maddur-Malavalli route ?
