Hi BHPians,

I am planning for a trip from Hyderabad to a location around Bangalore in November. The only requirement is that, i need a tree house stay surrounded by greenery, preferably in the mountains or near any water bodies. Kindly suggest few such places (any place near tadi peak/coorg would be a bonus). Thanks in advance.

NOT near to Coorg, but in case you love forest you can try here.

There is a travelogue in TBHP regarding this place too. I had planned of travelling here in Jan this year, however had to back out due to health issues. My brother travelled in my booking and had great reviews about the place.

We were quite surprised to see almost no tourists at Somnathapura on a Saturday. I guess it never gets as much attention as Belur/Halebid, inspite of having similar Hoysala architecture. Official ASI guide charges Rs. 300 for a 45 minute tour.

Heavy traffic up to Kanakapura town, after which it clears up a bit till Malavalli. Wide roads all the way to Somnathapura, with greenery on both sides - a treat for the eyes.

We drove to Barachukki Falls from Somnathapura - but is closed to public after 5:30 PM. From Barachukki Falls, we reached Bangalore via Maddur. However, do note that Malavalli - Maddur road (25 km) is undergoing repairs/widening.

Did you drive Malavalli - Bannur - Somnathapura?

Has anyone here visited Chunchi falls recently? Wanted to know road conditions for this stretch of road. Apart from the CCD after nice road exit is there any other breakfast place in and around kanakpura?

No issues with this road. Smooth and fairly wide.

We had breakfast at a large restaurant a couple of kms before Kanakapura town. Unable to recall the name of the restaurant though. You will find it on the right hand side (coming from Bangalore) and you won't miss it.

Try popular local eateries at Kanakapura town - Vasu Hotel & Srinivas Sagar.

Vasu Hotel is on the NH 209 highway on the left near some shops, easy to miss, look out for the signboard in Kannada. It is just before the junction for left turn to the Bus stand (and right turn to Ramanagara).

A little bit ahead, you will see the NH 209 curving to right and there is a circle. You will also see a fork to the left. Just near this fork on left side is Srinivas Sagar which is also good. Look up other threads like the Sunday morning rides thread, etc for precise locations of these places.

*Both places may not have good restrooms, that's the only drawback.

Not this. This restaurant was bigger, had a XXL sized aquarium inside and decent restrooms too.

It's not there in Google Maps, I just checked.

I guess you must have already visited this place, but if you still haven't then the best time to visit this place is between November to June. That's when the migratory birds, especially pelicans and painted storks, nest near this village.

Did a bike ride to Ramadevara betta/Sholay Hills/Vulture Sanctuary. Actual plan was to just ride to Bidadi, have Thatte Idli and come back. Got there pretty quickly and then decided to ride to to Ramadevara Betta as it was pretty close and had not been there before. Took around 1.5 hours from Belandur- Via NICE Road. Left at 6 and was there there ~8 after a stop at Bidadi. Only one small group was there and the place was deserted. Hence enjoyed the quiet and solitude. As we started to return, several groups were coming up. Some pics.

Although I ride a lot, it's all in the city. I think my bike was happy to go on a proper ride-even though a small one. The bike felt smoother and the engine note sweeter at the end of it.

While hunting for places on Gmaps, I stumbled upon Ananka Homestay located downstream from KRS. Decided to give it a try last month and must say that its a good spot to take a break from the routine.



The spot by the river is calm, peaceful and a different world with green farms, lots of birds, many many peacocks and gentle cauvery flowing over the rocks and gullies. A good spot for an early morning drive. The locals did mention that it can get crowded on Sundays, especially with local crowd opting to sit in the water and get drunk.







Did see the sand mafia taking away loads of sand in bullock carts - they are forced to use bullock carts as there is no road all the way to the river.



Need to park your vehicle a little distance away, cross a stream & then walk to the river.





How to get there? - Gmaps will help you till Karekura village - On KRS road, lookout for a red arch. After that drive up to the village:

• Locate the local school on your left
• Take road adjacent to the school wall and take the right fork after that
• Keep driving on the mud road - you should see the river to your right
• Cross the ashram - newly painted walls on your right
• Road should curve to your left and you should see the small stream and bridge
• Driving a 4x4? Wade across the stream and to the river/homestay

I was tempted to drive the TUV across the stream but one look at the large slab of rock at the other end of the stream made me change my mind.

Prem, the owner of the homestay, is on the farm everyday and is well traveled gentleman and fount of information - be it local produce, farming techniques or the forests of amazon. Do note that there is no option for food at the farmstay but you can cook your own meals if you want and all necessary vessels/gas etc is available. Might need to carry your own supplies, which is what we did.



If you are starting from North/West bangalore, you can take Magadi - Nagamangala - Pandavapura to reach this place. Added bonus - lip smacking good food at Thotada Mane
Don't miss the shavige bath and akki rotti with black til powder!
