I don't see any buses from KSRTC. And the trains are at a time that is inconvenient to us.

If there are no public transport options available. We might have to book a cab or the sort.

Any ideas are welcome.
All KSRTC buses towards Udupi, would stop at Murudeshwar on NH17. From there, you would get autos towards the temple.

Awesome.

By any chance, would these buses be around the morning? We are looking to reach Murudeshwar from Gokarna by around 10AM-11AM.

Thank you!

There is a bus starting from gokarna at around 8.45am in the morning towards udupi. If you can get into that, you should be able to make it to your destination around your preferred time.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

I made a quick trip from BLR to Dharmasthala & back via Charmadi on the weekend.

As mentioned in some of the earlier posts. The roads are super all the way, except for inside Belur town.

@Parag : thanks for the tip about the Hassan Bypass - came in very handy !!

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Had another drive from Mangalore to Bangalore yesterday and I too took the charmadi route.
Can’t ask for anything more. Road is in perfect condition.

Was an early morning drive starting at 5:30AM from Mangalore via BC. Road-Belthangady-Charmadi- Mudigere- Belur-hasan route, reaching Bangalore at 12:45 with a 40mins break in Chanrayapattana.

Also witnessed several groups of locals cleaning the ghat section. Hopefully the buttery condition and beauty of the Ghat stays this way without being abused like the Shiradi Ghat.
Sick of seeing people throwing bottles and plastic covers all over.

Yes, we too witnessed the cleaning up in Kakkinje village immediately after getting down the ghat.

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Shiradi was suppose to be closed for repair work right ? Any update on that ?

I last drive in October 1st week and mostly i will drive from BLR to udupi and back on end of Nov. Charmadi looks good but i am worried about the curvy road with an infant and old parents.

Please suggest if Shiradi is still drivable ? Have they patched around Sakleshpur town ?

?
The closure of Shiradi must be from 01Dec2014. But I think now it is postponed to 15th dec2014 and reopens on 15th may 2015.

I drove on charmadi route with my 5 months old daughter and was just fine.
I hope you have infant seat. That would be the safe choice and also stress free for parents.

I would prefer charmadi over Shiradi route till its repaired.

For someone travelling towards Sringeri/Koppa etc , Road condition from Aldur to Balehonnur has deteriorated badly. Too many potholes

Shiradi is deteriorating fast but I would still prefer as its still the quickest . Have been doing a trip every weekend since the last 5 weeks .

One has to be careful over the potholes , I ended up scraping the front bumper of the Amaze which otherwise manages well over most bad roads . This was a momentary lapse on my part and could have been avoided easily . Took us less than 6 hours on both legs .

1.5 kms before the second toll booth after nelamangala , one has to be careful as there is this road repair work going on since more than 2 months . Most drivers would be speeding on this stretch and you are in for a surprise when this stretch starts right on a curve .

Is it that bad, that one needs to take the longer Shimoga/Thirthahalli option? Thats a belter of a road.

Agree. Over two places, One at the Kunigal bypass(while travelling towards Hassan side), at the long banking curve & other one is after Bellur cross(while travelling towards blr side).
This is just a right example to show that what goes wrong if the sand/mud is not cured properly when one builds an elevated road over mud/sand

Re: The art of travelling between Bangalore - Mangalore/Udupi

Agumbe ghat will be closed from December 20th, 2014 for 3 months to concrete the entire stretch.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/nationa...cle6614871.ece

IMO people will start using Shiradi and Charmadi more during this period and in case if Shiradi is also closed it will be a bottle neck in charmadi. Hope everything is planned properly and executed
