Hi,
Apologies I could not PM u, how she getting the blood thinners. It's highly inappropriate to initiate such treatment without close observation or monitoring. Hope she is being observed closely by medical personnel.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

My friend's dad is having SpO2 of 84. Could not get admitted because no +ve report available so far. Until then he has to survive at home. Does anyone have an idea how to arrange an oxygen cylinder at home in Bangalore? Some nurse has to come and fix it for them I think.

Please share info on any such service provided by any hospital near Vijayanagar.

Covid report is no more required for hospital admission, symptoms or oxygen level is enough for proof

Not the reality in Bangalore so far. He dragged his dad all over Bangalore looking for a bed with oxygen for 12 hours, without the BU number none of the government hospitals gave admission. Rest said no bed available. In one place he had to return half way as they said the bed was given away to MD's relative. He finally gave up at around mid-night and returned home.

I'm either sleeping like I'm knocked out or very intermittent sleep where I keep waking up every hour.

We tried to not sleep at nights until father was admitted in the hospital and now mom's condition is very fragile as well, at home (test results pending), we try to do the same for her as our conscience doesn't allow us to sleep, so that if an emergency arises, we'll be awake and ready to help her at night time.

It's settled on 91 now after trying some prone exercises. His doctor is saying it's normal and mentioned to continue the medication.
He has blood pressure, wanted to ask the doctors here if hospitalization can be considered as per the oxygen levels?
Hi,
Any oxygen saturation of more than 93 is acceptable for home isolation. 90 to 93 is a Gray zone where medical personnel are cutting it close but with clinical evaluation. Less than 90 will not be acceptable to many. If he is not dyspneic and his oxygen levels at rest is more than 93 he is recovering. Absence of fever is one good sign.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear this. I am currently facing similar scenario in Chennai too. If your friends father's oxygen levels are so low he will need more than oxygen supplementation, such as steroids, blood thinners. Temporarily he can hire a portable concentrator which costs 15K per month at present in Chennai, I don't know its price in Bangalore but has to scour for a hospital.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Looks like my entire family is on the verge of testing positive. Grand dad, 84 and mom 57 (with previous history of CA) have tested positive and we have got them admitted in a small hospital as we didn't want to face the risk of non availability of hospital beds.

She was not able to secure a bed in a big private teaching hospital where she is now the Principal of one of the para medical colleges and has worked there for close to 24 years. My sister and I are doctors ourselves and because of which 4 out of 5 of us are fully vaccinated. My dad is getting tested tomorrow and the rest of us we plan to get tested on Monday. There is no iota of doubt in what the results will be though.

Now , administering medications or even IV lines at home would not have been a problem but oxygen requirement if and when it comes up , managing that would need a hospital bed. Right now ,they are stable with oxygen level of 95-96.

Everyone stay safe.

Hi,
Oxygen concentrator are available in chennai and if you need it there are people renting the same. I hope it doesn't come to that. Plus few beds are available with oxygen support in Medical colleges. Did you try SRM, Saveetha.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

How long should you wait to get vaccinated if you've had Covid-19 ? Some reports say as soon as you're out of quarantine while others say 1-3 months!

Hi,
If you are at risk better to get vaccinated after your recovery. If not wait for 30 to 60 days before vaccination. Risk means chances of reinfection highly likely like Medical personnel or in immunocompromised patients and such.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

My mother (80) takes Levocetrizine tablet daily for her skin condition. Some people say it should be stopped for some days before and after taking the vaccine. For how many days? Can some doctors throw some light on this?

Hi,
There are very few indications for chronic usage of levocetrizine. There is no indication to stop the medicine during are after vaccination. Unlikely to make any impact on the vaccine.
