Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Thought this is the best place to share the following:

List of Netflix secret codes:
Using the Netflix secret codes is really straightforward. Once you've found the code you want to use, simply enter it in the search bar on the Netflix app or website. That's it.

For example, if you want to see a list of British TV shows, simply enter the code 52117 in the search bar. Or if you're a fan of Korean dramas, that's 5685.

It's worth noting that certain codes only work in certain regions, so some of the codes below may not work for you.

I may be the minority here, but there are many things about BCS that I have not been sold to. The whole first few seasons that focused on sibling rivalry has been a bit too lame for a crime series.

BTW, the final act of BCS is any day better than the absolutely trash ending of BB. I understand that everybody was yearning for a relatively happy ending, but that one was way over the top.
Guess I'm the Outlier here. I loved the ending. I did find things quite abrupt through part 2 of S6 but the last episode was a perfect closure to the character Saul Goodman. To me, it seemed like the best episode.

There is some misunderstanding here. BCS was always a Drama. Crime was the background setting.

Howver, Vince has categorically stated this will be the end of Breaking bad universe and now they will move on to new concepts. So, any spin offs will not happen.

I hope there are no more spin-offs. This premise has been milked enough. Gould and Vince are amazing at their work and I hope they bring out their next project soon. Something fresh.

Moving on -
I started watching 'MANIFEST' on Netflix. It is an American supernatural drama television series that centers on the passengers and crew of a commercial airliner who suddenly reappear after being presumed dead for five and a half years.

Plot -
While traveling from Jamaica to New York City, Montego Air Flight 828 experiences a brief period of severe turbulence. When they land at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, New York, the plane's 191 passengers and crew learn from NSA deputy director Robert Vance that over five and a half years have passed while they were in the air, during which time they were presumed dead. As they rejoin society, the passengers begin to face the fact that their lives—and loved ones—are not the same as they were, while they also begin to experience guiding voices and visions representing events yet to occur, referred to as 'callings.'

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Unsure if Duranga (on Zee5) has been discussed in this Forum. I am in middle of it and with each episode it becomes more intriguing and interesting.
Gulshan Devaiah is one of the most underrated (or should I say unknown) actors in India. Gritty direction and great adoption of Korean plot. Must watch Hindi series, if you are lover of crime/thriller -

Please stop and don't waste time. It is a rubbish series, after the first few episodes.

I dont know of even a single person who likes Manifest.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Finally finished watching all 8 seasons of Homeland at a stretch on Disney+ Hotstar. Not sure why I had never completed watching this one for so long.

I am possibly the worst latecomer in this regard, but have to say that this show remains a gripping adventure throughout. Yes, Carrie Mathison gets on your nerves multiple times through it all, but well, the show overall retains a spot in the list of my favourite series.

Same for me. While it is by no means brilliant, I find the sub stories quite engaging and they don't bore me at least. I'm all for supernatural drama. Those who don't like it should speak for themselves

Delhi Crime Season 2 Netflix

The series builds upon the stupendous first season and comes with a new storyline with an equally brilliant result. The crux of the series is the superlative cast and crew and which carries the narrative wonderfully well. The idea taken from real life incidents happening around Delhi, Delhi Crime is a must watch. This series is one of the better crime series to come out of India and I hope this continues.

Rating: 4.5/5

Maharani 2 SonyLiv

Another second season and very well made. Huma Qureshi has probably played the role of her lifetime and it shows. A little effort in the screenplay department and the second season could have been so much more engrossing. Nevertheless, another binge worthy series no doubt.

Rating: 3.5/5

Duranga ZEE5

Another series starring Gulshan Devaiah and Dhrasti Dhami and what a brilliant one at that. Without disclosing anything other than that it is a Korean story adapted for Indian screens, Duranga is fantastic. Recommended watch.

Rating: 4/5

Duly noted. I was only a few episodes in anyway and I wasn't digging it. Off it goes.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

The Expanse (Amazon Prime): 4/5
I see that nobody has mentioned The Expanse yet. For people who enjoy Sci-Fi, I whole-heartedly recommend this show. The show is based on a series of Novels by James S. A. Corey and ran for six seasons. It's critically acclaimed and categorically the best Sci-Fi show I've ever had the pleasure to watch. Once I experienced the attention to detail and scientific rigour on this show, all the futuristic technology they show in Star Wars / Star Trek felt infantile and magic-wand-y.

The premise
Fast-forward to a future where humanity have colonized Mars, moon, and some asteroids in the belt near Jupiter/Saturn. Colonization happened a long time ago and many generations were born and raised in these new frontier regions, leading to the human body adapting to those locations. For eg: people on the asteroid belt and Mars struggle with Earth's 1G gravity. 'Belt'ers have culturally evolved to have their own language. Earth is ecologically a far cry from what we have now, but still has breathable atmosphere, vegetation and oceans, which are a wonder to those who're from the other planets. Mars is technologically more advanced than Earth, but has to constantly fight against the inhospitable nature of the planet. The 'belt' or people living on city-sized space stations built in the asteroid belt have historically been underprivileged, caught in the crossfire of political rivalry between Earth and Mars. For them, even drinking water cannot be taken for granted. In this backdrop, we follow the lives of a group of unwitting individuals thrust into the political one-upmanship playing out between various planets and the belt.

Why is it recommended?
The show weaves multiple genres into a compelling narrative - political thriller, action, sci-fi, drama, even philosophy. The attention to detail when it comes to imagining a life in deep space and inhospitable planets blew my mind; I suspect the original novels are well researched and give the show immense depth. The characters are brilliantly cast. The narrative is gripping. For some reason, the show did not receive the same word-of-mouth publicity as shows like Dark, although I believe it's of a similar calibre.

The initial couple of seasons are a little slow and not quite as riveting as the later seasons. I would have rated it 5/5 if not for the uneven pacing of the initial two seasons. But it was well worth it for me. Each season was better than the last, and I finished the last 3 in a whirlwind. The scale of show's ambition left me speechless in some places. I believe it deserves to be seen by a lot more people, and I'm out here doing my bit to spread the word about this gem. A word of warning, though - if you enjoy The Expanse, it'll raise your expectations with regard to sci-fi genre, and you might start nitpicking on perfectly all right franchises like I did.

+1

Yet to watch S2, but agree, that they should keep this theme going. Unfortunately, there are plenty of cases to work with.

I hope they make a season on the infamous Naina Sahni a.k.a tandoor murder case at some point. It has everything a thrilling series needs.

Here are a few posts from earlier recommending the same.

I liked the realism the show has. Both Season 1 and Season 2 were made very well but Season 1 hit very hard.

Maybe because there is hardly anyone in India who did not see his own sister in Nirbhaya and cried for every woman in his life.

I found it very stale and lacklustre.
The basic premise was good, the acting was decent but it just lacked the conviction to make it interesting for me.
