Re: The Weight Loss Thread

Here is a summary extract of the JAMA article that proved the efficacy of LCHF diet. JAMA is Journal of the American Medical Association, a peer-reviewed medical journal published by the American Medical Association.

Re: The Weight Loss Thread

My BIL has been to take some injection for aiding weight loss... anyone has any information on this - pros / cons, side effects etc?

The doctor didn't mention the name of the injection as she is an old family doctor (I have asked him for this information though).

How can we help if we don't even know the name of the medicine or the medical history.

I also don't think there is any such magic cure for weight loss.

I was quite fascinated by this actually. In the past, I have taken hydroxycut tablets and I guess it would be something similar. The tablets did help in weight reduction but as is typical with diets, when you go off it, you're back to square one (if not worse).

This time around though, I have lost weight through a lifestyle change and is holding up quite well.

Update to follow shortly with the name.

Just did some quick googling- people inject HCG (human growth hormone, found in pregnant women) into their bodies and claim that, in tandem with a strict low-calorie diet, results in weight loss of up to a pound a day. The science indicates that any low-calorie diet will probably yield similar results, so I am skeptical.

People inject Vitamin B12 into themselves as well, hoping for a miracle weight loss cure.

@avdhesh15-

Please read that link which also lists a couple of other injectables that supposedly help reduce weight. Personally I liked this rather mild but spot-on disclaimer towards the end of the piece:
Quote:
If you're hoping to lose weight, resist the lure of quick and easy solutions. What counts is a healthy lifestyle. Enjoy healthier foods in appropriate quantities and include physical activity in your daily routine.
Also, on this point you made:

Do yourself a favour and do NOT put anything into your body (or those of your family's) without thoroughly understanding what it is, how it will help and what other impact it has on your health.

Why to avoid milk? Any reasons? I'm following a similar diet as yours (whenever possible), but I do love my morning coffee, with milk but without sugar.

It has the carbs. Milk Sugar is Lactose. So it comes in your way of fat being your primary fuel. Hence no milk.

I got a wide grin reading this!

I have come to realise espresso is an acquired taste for us. But once you get it, there is no escaping. I am guilty of it for the last 4-5 years. I actually used to love filter coffee. And now I have moved away from it totally. Only when on occasion or with family I tend to take milk coffee (when its served and you cant say no!)

Many a times when you ask for an espresso at a coffee shop, the guys stares at you blank and says "saar its only decoction!"

+1 to ampere. Milk has 30% to 50% carbs, depending on the type of milk (full fat to low fat). So, usually milk and curd are avoided in LCHF diet.

However, the reason why I do not take milk coffee is that I like the taste of black coffee without sugar than the taste of milk coffee without sugar (I allow some amount of carbs in my diet because of the intense workouts I do).

So, if you take milk coffee without sugar, go for full fat milk than the low fat milk.

That is a perfect LCHF food Today, in the canteen, I was asking for just the burger patty and just the chicken (which was supposed to be served with pasta), and the guy was looking at me like I was crazy

If Dairy is necessary, stick to curd or butter milk. Curd has 1/3 carbs compared to milk, thanks to the bacteria breaking it down.

Thanks guys. I have 4 milk packets in the fridge. Will finish those and try to see if expresso is my thing.

Will stick to curd. I've noticed that I get blisters in the mouth if I avoid milk products completely though!

That is a beautiful plate. Loved it.

I still eat rice once in 2 or 3 days.
Zero wheat though.

My weight loss has kind of stagnated at 91.x
But I am not complaining as my inch loss is progressing well.
All my t-shirts are now loose and my father is law is worried that I am going to fall ill.

Meanwhile I donated blood as well with zero side effects.
Shows to me that the LCHF diet does not weaken you in any way.
