And I love Duel! Spielberg's classic tale of the car driver being terrorised by that unseen maniac in the tanker. What a great little low-budget film that was.

The

Among others, Christine. Although the Stephen King book is much better, the film manages to pull in a lot of nervy and horrific atmosphere by itself. Vanishing Point is an all-time classic, so is The Italian Job (original 60s one with Michael Caine)................................

For chase sequences, look no further than Bullitt and The French Connection. Two of the best ever made, period. Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Ronin and Matrix: Reloaded had some really fabulous chase sequences too.

John Frankenheimer's Grand Prix. Recommended by me. Another is Smokey and the Bandit.

Nic Cage's Gone In 60 Seconds is another good one. The Transporter series had some good cars showcased.

Ano...........................
Cannonball Run I & II. Totally goofy comedies but very enjoyable.

Will think of more later.

C'mon anything more left? You just dished out the whole list of evergreen car movies and car chases. Did you left anything for others to say?
Above is the most complete list of the thread topic with explanation.
It jus leaves out the Fast n Furious series and Initial D.
Cheers

Oops, sorry. I just read the last 5-6 replies of this thread and put down my recommendations, being an ardent movie enthusiast from my childhood days.

Sorry about that. It won't happen again.

Oh, yes :) THAT I remember. The car supposedly conveyed its emotions using the horn. In one scene, it escapes the attempts by the hero to eliminate it, and then goes 'honk-honk-honk' (ha-ha-ha), as if it was laughing mockingly !

I watched this (during my school days, mid-80s I guess) in the erstwhile 'Rainbow' theatre in CBE...left quite an impact on me.

There was a movie called "RPM", where in the hero had a nick of stealing vintage and classic cars in style. I loved the movie so much.

And that scene when the entire town is being chased by the car, and most of the citizens go and hide inside a cemetery with a big cross on the front. The car couldn't get in, and the heroine throws stones or something at it, swearing all the time. The car gets maddened in its anger and revs really, really hard, it's tires spinning furiously through the gravel. It does 2-3 round turns in front of the entrance in sheer anger and frustration, and then drives away honking furiously.

Of course, it gets its revenge, and how! By blasting straight through the heroine's home at it's fullest, breakneck speed! What happens to the heroine is left to our imagination.

And that climax! When that huge cloud of fire and smoke from below the canyon reveals the car devil's image to the survivors!

Fantastic film. Unforgettable. :thumbs up

Just thought of yet another wonderful film...

There is this Tamil movie. Short Film actually. Called 'Pannaiyaarum Padhminiyum' (Zamindar and Padmini). I saw it in Youtube. Loved it.
Sentimentally funny :)
Unfortunately no subtitle though. The Tamil speakers in this forum must check it out.

That was just hilarious, and though not a driver, he loves the car very much and the way he shares the car with the whole village, frankly i won't do that, but that's another life far from our narrow minded urban perspective.
Funny lines.
1. "But i don't know how to drive 'doubles' !!!"
2. "Where is the gear lever?"
"Idiot, why are you looking for it now?, just drive the car."lol:
3. "Ayya, please name my baby."
"err..err car, car.. 'Car'umen, name the baby Carumen, chooper name."
4.When he doesn't tell the break down the car so that his daughter doesn't take it to the city for her use.
5. "ennappa kulirithe???" , "Why son, this is so cold here?" , when he sits in his son's Corolla with the A/C running.:uncontrol
And last the 'race' between the Padmini and the Corolla.
Only if they subtitled the film, would have given 10minutes of laughter for a wide audience.
p.s-Tamil speakers not needed ,just you have to understand the language.
Hi hi, sorry @thalavoy.
Cheers

Chanced up on this short film few days back - Loved it. If it was a Padmini commercial, it could have got lot of awards :)

Some lines are 'sooper funny'. Must watch if you understand tamil.

I too saw that video and liked it. Since I can understand tamil, i enjoyed it. Further I own a 1959 Fiat the father of premier padmani, this video was even more special :).

@Dicky. The name he gives to the baby is 'Karmegam' (rain cloud in tamil). But yes he is inspired by 'Kar' = 'Car'.
Agree with you that Tamil Understanders would enjoy this film :)
