Re: The Cricket Thread

Imagine the meltdown from the pitch warriors if 23 wickets fell on day one of a test in Chennai instead of Cape Town!

SA board gonna incur losses for this match and deservedly so for preparing this shambolic pitch.
CSA has been in financial doldrums since a while now. Thats the reason they're giving importance to SA20 & sending a 3rd string Test team to NZ!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Guys we all have been looking at this the wrong way. Hosting test matches cost money. So this might be CSA's way of saving money, finish the match in 2 days. Total 2 tests have been played for 5 days(if it ends today), what an efficient way to hold test matches and at the same time saving money. Other boards should follow the same innovative cost saving methods

Re: The Cricket Thread

After dropping Markram at 73 India finally get him out for 106! Hope these additional 30 runs don't stump India.

PS: Finally, Prasidh has a single wicket on a pitch where they are falling like 9 pins.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Interesting match unfolding on an Interesting pitch

Fail to understand why Rohit held Siraj for this long when he was the star performer in the first innings.

79 Big ones to save the face. Test of nerves now.

A friend who was watching the match quipped that Rohit should reverse the batting order like Bradman did once and send the tail-enders out first!

Such strategies somehow don't work for our team. In the first innings of this match itself our bottom half of the batting order lost 6 wickets for nothing.

If there ever was an opportunity for a few players to redeem themselves in the same match in which they lost their marbles, it was this!

Rohit should indeed have done a Bradman.

Aside, why is Jaiswal not using his chances well? Don't want to see him follow the Shaw route by not utilising his full potential.

Jaiswal somewhat did that. Let's see if others can hold nerves for 26 more runs or we see a collapse like 1st innings. Ideally should be an easy win from here. But then nothing about this match is ideal

Shortest completed Test match ever - 107 Overs!
What a bad advertisement for the game

Nature abhors vacuum....

Popular sentiment apparently favours scrapping of ODIs in favour of T20s and Tests only.

So .....

Rohit Sharma*has called out the ICC and the match referees for what he sees as double standards at rating pitches. After winning the shortest Test in the history of the game, thanks to a lottery pitch loaded too heavily in the favour of the seam bowlers, Rohit was scathing about the slander against pitches in India, which don't go the distance.

"I mean, we saw what happened in this match, how the pitch played and stuff like that," Rohit said. "I honestly don't mind playing on pitches like this. As long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India and don't talk too much about Indian pitches, honestly.

"Because you come here [in Test cricket] to challenge yourself. Yes, it is dangerous. It is challenging. So, and when people come to India, it is again pretty challenging as well. Look, when you are here to play Test cricket, we talk about Test cricket, the ultimate prize, Test cricket being the pinnacle and stuff like that. I think it's important that we also stand by it.

"When you are put up against, a challenge like that, you come and face it. That's what happens in India, but, in India on day one, if the pitch starts turning, people start talking about 'Puff of dust! Puff of dust!' There's so much crack here on the pitch. People are not looking at that."

Rohit singled out the match referees and some of the ratings pitches received in last year's World Cup, held in India. "I think it's important that we stay neutral everywhere we go," Rohit said. "Especially the match referees. You know, some of these match referees need to keep their eye on how they rate pitches. It's quite important.

"I still can't believe that the World Cup final pitch was rated below average [it was*rated average]. A batsman got a hundred there in the final. How can that be a poor pitch? So these are the things the ICC, the match referees, they need to look into and start rating pitches based on what they see, not based on the countries. I think that's quite important.

"So I hope they keep their ears open, they keep their eyes open and look into those aspects of the game. Honestly, I'm all for pitches like this. We want to challenge playing on pitches like this. We pride ourselves playing on pitches like this. Uh, but all I want to say is be neutral."
Well done rohit proud of you.

Re: The Cricket Thread

^^Good on the part of Rohit Sharma to point out the double standards when it comes to pitches. But I just hope this does not mean we just dish out rank-turners in India with Tests getting over in 3 days! Our batsman's confidence has dropped over the years, how will we develop the next crop of Test batsman if you continually dish out such pitches at home. Its another thing that Test Cricket will be restricted to 3-4 teams at max from next year or so.
As we have seen this team can win abroad as well, so why not prepare sporting pitches. Virat Kohli is a modern day legend but his average has dropped below 50!
