Re: The Cricket Thread

The pitch in the ongoing Australia vs Pakistan test match at Perth is downright dangerous. All leading batsmen have been hit on the body. Smith chose to take blows on the body rather than commit to short of length deliveries.
The Western media would have gone to town if this was India. At least ball turning square on the first day isn't going to pose bodily harm!

Ya.
Mitch Marsh was hit twice on head and second time quite dangerously at back of the grill. Not a single word about pitch from any commentator. Double standards as usual.

Mark Waugh says, 'I won't call the pitch dangerous, maybe treacherous!!! '

I thought I spoke decent English, maybe time for a refresher.

The double standards by the Aussies isn't surprising. Pak's ineptitude aside, the pitch was pathetic with the cracks and unpredictable bounce. Lyon's 501st wicket was unimpressive to say the least. Even Kohli could have bagged a wicket on that delivery with zero bounce. The pitch should be rated sub-standard but knowing the Aussies it'll be rated average or even good.

I remember when India was defeating Australia in the last tour the Australian commentators were going berserk as to why the bowlers aren't hitting the Indian batsmen enough. Kinda ghoulish to be honest.
The best part, for more than a decade, only Indian team has defeated Aus in Aus. That too multiple series wins!
No other team has even won a test match!

The last time Pak won a test match in Aus was when Ponting hadn't even debuted!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Prasidh Krishna & Yashasvi Jaiswal should have featured in a few games of this ODI series. You cannot stimulate actual match conditions in a high intensity practice session. Both are a certainty in the XI for the Tests. Also, Washington Sundar should have played ahead of Kuldeep in this inconsequential ODI series & batted at no.8 !

Re: The Cricket Thread

Finally ! The Sanju Samson we all wanted to see have arrived.
Superb ODI innings considering the situation and the way he controlled his inner self not to throw away his wicket.

But, BCCI will be like "well done Sanju, your next match will be in 2025"

Re: The Cricket Thread

Sanju Samson rose to the occasion when mattered. Overall, the series benefited India. KL Rahul was the only player from the World Cup ODI team in this playing XI, and India won their second ODI series in SA. (Surprising fact, though). Now the final frontier of winning a test series in SA needs to be conquered.

Tests are the only thing I was waiting for eagerly. In fact 2 tests starting on boxing day. Although it's a given Australia will steam roll Pakistan again but I hope they give some fight. Really disappointing Shami will miss the tests. He has been our ace with ball this year.

I believe Prasidh will play ahead of Mukesh Kumar considering his good outing with India A. Prasidh is a much better red ball bowler so I have good hopes. This is again our best chance to win a test series in SA.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Sorry to hijack this post but i can’t find a way to start a new post on my subject.

Without causing offence, can i ask if wearing a pith sun hat would be acceptable during the forthcoming test series between England and India or would this be seen as inappropriate considering its colonial connection?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Today is Boxing Day! So we have got 2 test matches going on, IND VS SA and AUS VS PAK, the latter at the MCG.

In your opinion, what the best Boxing day test you have known?
For me, its the 2020 MCG Test between India and Australia, where Rahane scored a match saving 112 and put on 121 with Jadeja and Siraj picked up 5 wickets in the match. This was the perfect comeback to the 36 all out and helped us win the series!

Don't give it another thought, no one will care, hardly anyone will even make the connection. Enjoy the game!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Don't think SA have bowled that well in the 1st session inspite of getting India 3 down! Rohit's dismissal was more due to bad shot selection, Gill's dismissal was innocuous, only Jaiswal's dismissal was more due to the bowler! India need to anyhow get closer to 300 now that the sun is out & pitch has eased out. The batting lineup in the absence of Jadeja is looking really thin!

Re: The Cricket Thread

KL doing the job for us in SA now. Hope he gets his 100. And what did Pakistan do to give 50+ runs in extras?! They'd have been in a much better position if not for that stat.

Both matches developing well.

Rohit Sharma is the wrong choice for *overseas* test captain. He averages 14 in SA & 31 in AUS. He won't find a place in the away team for his batting. His home record (avg 67) masks his overseas failures.
