Re: The Cricket Thread

Atleast Kohli won a Worldcup thanks to Yuvi, Sachin, Gauti & Dhoni. Rohit only has IPL trophies.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Thing with the likes of Ashwin is he is dropped for almost all white ball series citing they are looking for next thing but then put him in the main tournament. If they want him then make him play the T20 series with other countries. But nowadays these kind of bilateral series cannot give proper indication because almost all of the top teams don't field their starting eleven until the final month's.

Is this finally the sign of things to come, good to see Rauhl, Kohli and Sharma missing from T20I setup, they don't belong there anymore. Interesting team selection for SA series, let's see how the team fares.

No sign of anything. Both Rohit and Virat asked for a break from white ball events in SA.

They should be given a permanent break from T20

No Axar Patel in t20 team. What stupidity is that. He has been great with bat in last couple of years and blind biased selectors keep doing such things and then wonder why we don't win cups. Why is Jadeja in t20 team and that too as a vice captain. He has done nothing of note in t20 since long and even in IPL he hasn't done well with bat.

Like I said before, all 3 will miraculously appear in World cup squad even if they don't play a single t20i before that.

So my theory was right. I have mentioned previously in this thread that Sanju Samson will not get selected in T20's till T20 world cup is over.
And he will be selected for (warming the bench ofcourse) for ODI's during this time.

I'm sure, he'll be dropped from ODI's after T20 WC and will be picked for T20's till champions trophy (which is in ODI format) is over

Being said that, considering his current form, he should consider himself lucky to get selected in first place.

In that T20 WC, he played a significant innings in the match against South Africa which helped knock them out of the tournament.

That t20 world cup brought him in notice. However his form was terrible when 2011 world cup arrived and that's why he wasn't selected. No batsman in history of Indian cricket has gotten such a long rope in Indian team without doing anything great with bat. I still remember the meme of Rohit arriving on crease and fans putting 2 minutes Maggi noodles to prepare cos as soon as Maggi is ready Rohit will be out As far as I remember he started making runs 2013 afterwards when he became an opener.

Both have won 1 world cup each as player but not winning it as Captain will remain a sore thing for them. Plus Kohli has ODI world cup which at that time and even today is way above T20 world cup in prestige. For all his greatness Sachin always wanted an ODI world cup win in his career and that thirst made him play for so long. Maybe that's why Rohit looked completely heart broken when we lost the final cos in his heart he believed this time he will win an ODI world cup. Sad.

Rohit and Kohli are poles apart in International T20s, at least in the last few years. Kohli has been India's top run getter in T20 WCs while Rohit has performed abysmally (not poorly) in them. To club them together is a travesty!

Rohit is still getting a LONG rope in T20s.

PS: Reports are coming in that Rohit will captain India in the T20 WC 2024.

Since the lost final cricket fans in India have become circumspect, sardonic and ambivalent.
Just 6 months for the T20 WC in the Caribbean/USA and we will still have the ghost of the ODI final loss, looming threateningly, over our heads.

What can India do differently to cross the final hurdle, if at all, we reach another WC final? I still can't figure out what happened on Nov 19.

Seems like the only way to look at Indian cricket is from a detached perspective, without expecting much.....until some Indian captain pulls out another Dhoni-sque mental performance.

Till then we all are free to joust with each other on the forum and vent out our emotions.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India were quite defensive in the World Cup final when they were batting. Rohit gave a terrific start to the team and the team did not capitalize on the start. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli played as though they were playing with a burden of Himalayas on them. Cricket is a free flowing game, particularly the white ball game, and they should have just taken the game on in my humble opinion :-).

BCCI should ideally appoint an ad-hoc Advisory Committee for selecting Coach & Support Staff just like earlier. Then they should invite applications for the same. Ideally all this should be done during the IPL!

BCCI readies plans to launch a Tier-2 white ball tournament ‘similar’ to IPL
