While S Africa are cruising to another victory over Australia, am following the TN - Bengal Ranji Quarter final where TN are trying to win a what was a hopeless situation yesterday afternoon. After conceding the 1st innings lead to Bengal yesterday, today morning Balaji's inspired bowling meant TN are back into the game trying to chase 227 with about 65 overs left. Keeping in mind that in Ranji trophy if the match is a draw the team with the 1st innings lead progresses further.

Why will anybody give an excuse?
Meaning of excuse:
1. A defence of some offensive behaviour or some failure to keep a promise etc.
2. A note explaining an absence
3. A poor example

Deep down Sachin is satisfied that many people think he is the greatest batsman (like Bradman). Deep down, he nurses a resentment that not many think of him as a captain (unlike Bradman).

There is nothing wrong with the feeling. But, here he is trying to put down a fellow player by not fully acknowledging his skills & abilities.

Note: Will Dhoni say, 'Sachin is a great batsman but his batting partners also ran his runs' ?
How stupid that statement would be?

Just guessing here but are you a lawyer?

Like the Great Amitabh Bachan once said - English is a funny language.

Wow man your minute understanding is awesome. I am impressed. Not being sarcastic, honestly i mean it.

I dont concur with your conclusion though.

The whole team performed and thats what he is saying, as simple as that.

Linking it to his failure at captaincy is stretching it way too much. I dont think he said what he did because of Dhoni's success or because of his failure 10 years back. The answer maybe to a question the reporter asked.

Yours is pure speculation based on one sentence of his.

Even Zaheer, Gambhir, Sehwag said its a team effort. Did they have the same reason to try and belittle Dhoni's success?

Recent reports in media:

Zaheer: Zaheer credits success to reduced run-up

Gambhir: Gambhir credits Kirsten for recent form

Sehwag: Sehwag praises on Ishant, Zaheer, India will soon be No.1: Sehwag

Sachin: Dhoni a good captain but we did well as a unit too: Tendulkar

Maybe Sachin *mentored* Dhoni in field placings, bowling changes, batting orders, strategy et al.

Hopefully Mumbai Indians will finish in the other half table in the next edition of IPL.

I have been following this match right from day 1. What a spell by Balaji today!! This spell really turned the match situation in favor of TN

@ Manu - Good to see somebody else also interested in Ranji Tropy, one of the foremost reasons why Australia seem to have a better set of 1st teamers is because of the extremely strong domestic competitions, pity not many are interested in the Indian context

@ Eddy - Nice to know that. Pity Delhi could not qualify for the super league or we could have hand some friendly banter

And so does Saurashtra. Brilliant performance by Jadeja and Pujara. Its a pity Dravid could not do something more substantial than a 50 and a 20 odd. :(

Don't you read it as every one is saying about others or about them, only person talking about team is "Sachin" and cricket is a team game and not a captain's game. - I think so.

SA have done it, sad to see a giant like Australia fall. But thats life and its fair. the better tean won. But the most important part here was no umpiring shockers / blunders in this particular series

SA wins the match, and the series. Aussies beaten at home soil after 16 years. Retirements of so many stalwarts and Bucknor have hit them really hard ;-)
