Well, even Kohli need not have gone for that aerial shot, right? He had just hit a boundary on the earlier ball. But I don't blame him or tendulkar. Wickets were falling at other end in both cases and quick runs was the order of the day. Balls remaining wasn't a problem, imo.

All he can do is bowl 3-4 overs of spin in which he will be seriously smashed considering how our regular bowlers get treated these days.

He missed out in New Zealand.
I am happy. Pujara released by the Kings XI Punjab.

And I hope no one else picks him up

Vijay out just before the second new ball. This may open the floodgates :(

Australia 247/6 to 505 all out. Vintage Dhoni captaincy

From being in a position to win the match, India are now staring at defeat.

All too familiar situation! India allows nos. 9,10 & 11 to score way too many runs but our bowlers when batting except Ashwin hardly ever put up a fight!
Seems we are only capable of playing well in patches on this tour.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India heading towards a very familiar overseas test result with some pathetic batting performances
Kohli 1, Rahane 10, Nohit Sharma 0, Dhoni 0, U Yadav 30 (the lower order batting star!)

Re: The Cricket Thread

Another collapse and we're 2-0 down in this series. Wonder if it'll be another 4-0 result this time too. Cricinfo had this interesting discussion on how many times we've had a batting collapse this year alone, losing 5 or more wickets for <100 runs, something to be very worried about.

Re: The Cricket Thread

If I were to find a silver lining, at least this is different from the abject surrender in England in the last four games. At least, we are fighting and were in good positions in both games.

Remember we also defeated the Aussies 4-0 in India

Re: The Cricket Thread

Unlike other test cricket teams, the Aussies do not have tailenders, only "tall"enders who can make tall scores - Hats off! Their specialist bowlers can also bat really special.

We need an all-rounders academy not just pace academies to groom our future players

Re: The Cricket Thread

I have pretty much given up on this team when it comes to test cricket.

How do you allow the opposition to score 500 plus when you have them at 247/6 is really beyond my comprehension abilities.

And I read somewhere that India will fall to number 7 in test rankings if they lose any one of the remaining two tests on this tour. Serves us right really, we are certified minnows in this format.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think we haven't played to our potential in the 2 Tests so far. We could have easily drawn the first game and played a hell lot better in this one. I just cannot fathom why are we so mentally weak?

Or maybe we have been made to look better because the pitches have been true and good for batting? Rohit is horrendous, Rahane and Pujara seem patchy, MSD is no good overseas. Only silver lining so far have been Vijay & Kohli. Ishant seems to hold up well as well.
It's time we played KL Rahul & Raini in place of Dhawan & Rohit - bring a lot more energy to the team.

PS.: And MSD as a skipper is past his sell by date - this in all likely is his last stint as India captain. I do not see him captaining the side post the world cup.

This is Ishant's third tour to Australia & he's expected to bowl much better! He only manages to bowl well in patches & lacks consistency. The Commentators keep harping on that spell that he bowled to Ponting ages back.

Certainly Raina needs to get a look-in at no.6 or maybe Jadeja. Jadeja also gives us the 5th bowling option.
It's a very difficult choice for Dhoni as to whom to drop among Aaron, Yadav & Shami as they all are bowling erratically.

That's also what Greg Chappel said last week
