Re: The Cricket Thread

India need just 27 runs to win and with ~6 overs left before the day's play ends, it's quite possible this test will end on the 3rd day just like the first test

Re: The Cricket Thread

Trust Pakistan to run like this:

Quote:
Siddle to Azhar Ali, out Azhar Ali Run Out!! This is very, very naive from Pakistan. The two batsmen have just presumed that the ball has gone to the boundary, without actually watching it, and have stopped in the middle of the pitch to have a chat. The ball had actually stopped a couple of yards inside. Starc retrieves it, fires it through to Paine who breaks the stumps quite gleefully, much to the shock of Azhar Ali. He is absolutely stunned, not able to process what's happened. Just unbelievable stuff, don't expect it to happen at this level. Mickey Arthur can't stop shaking his head. Azhar Ali run out (Starc/Paine) 64(141) [4s-4]

Interesting situation - after coming so close to winning the first test, let's see if Pakistan actually manage to win this one or if the Australians actually pull off something special

Indeed. It reminds me of an incident in New Zealand when Muralitharan was runout while wandering out of his crease to congratulate Sangakkara on his landmark (100/150/200, not sure)
This however, is next level stuff

Saw the clip.
The look on Azhar Ali face is priceless.
Easily the dumbest run out of all time.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Looks like there was a similar run out in a Pakistan-West Indies test couple years ago with Mohammed Amir and Wahab Riaz being the batsmen involved.
In this case they assumed it was a 6, but it was saved by Roston Chase and the throw was good too (while the batsmen were midway).

Something very similar happened in and England vs India test as well. Ball was stopped before crossing over to the boundary and batsman thinking that it is a four started to leave the ground for lunch.

But Dhoni withdrew the appeal after the break.

I saw that - in a video with a compilation of the same thing happening in other matches. The comment said, the England team management requested him to take the appeal back.

There was another such incident, although not exact same background, between England (Collingwood) and NZ and Vettori was requested to take the appeal back. When it repeated later, with NZ being at the stupid end, England didn't pay the favor back.

I think the sequence was the other way around. Vettori took his appeal back though Collingwood did not do it earlier.

This is extremely irritating and infuriating of the English. They are the first ones to cry 'Cheating and Unfair play' but when it comes to them, they always seem to find a reason to do exactly the opposite.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India romped home to victory over West Indies in the first ODI chasing down the required 323 runs (got 326 finally) with almost 8 overs to spare! Rohit Sharma and Kohli scored 100+ each and made it look so easy.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kohli's journey to 10000 ODI runs is a major focus item in today's ODI of IND Vs WI. He needed 81 to reach the 10k mark and become the fastest to the landmark. He is currently on 39. He'll still be the fastest even if he reaches the landmark this series.

Here's the list of fastest players to each 1000 run mark

Or even before the world cup right?
He is way ahead of the record number of matches/ innings.

Edit: his ODI average is currently above 58! He is truly a run machine in ODIs

Fakhar has just started his career. But Amla would have definietly beaten Kohli even for 8000, 9000, etc, if his form had not dipped drastically in the recent days and also he is almost 6 years older than Kohli!
But when it comes to ODI average (especially in successful chases), Kohli's average is almost Bradmanesque!

That if is what eventually separates players, isn't it.

What Kohli has been achieving is just phenomenal. If we talk about Kohli the player (leaving aside Kohli the captain), there is not one flaw you can find. That man deserves every accolade he gets given how tirelessly hard he works.
