Can you not simply set transaction restrictions on the add-on cards? My mom uses my add-on and I have blocked everything except physical swipes on her cards for safety purposes.

Thanks, that is what I've done but he wants his 'own' card now. Was also thinking it's good to start his credit history earlier rather than later.

I will approach HDFCB and see if they will go the 'secured FD' credit card route.

Check First Wow from IDFC Bank. I recently got to know about it when I was looking for cards with zero markup fees.

They have some student specific offering as well. Seems like they don't need income or credit history.

https://www.idfcfirstbank.com/credit-card/wow/student

Prima facie it looks good.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Hello, needed some help in understanding if the credit card that I use is ok or shall I look for an upgrade?

My Credit Card spendings hover between 5000-10000 a month. On different occassions if I have to buy any electronics/high value shopping/fine dine eating out is where I use my credit card.

I do Amazon shopping too.

Right from start when I didnt had a CIBIL score in 2014, I received my HDFC Times Titanium card and I have been using this same card for years and is my current card.

I dont do lot of traveling by flights for any business purpose. My work is majorly work from home and dont use my card for petrol fillings.

Card is mainly used for offers/EMIs/International payments.

Considering I am eligible for Regalia (I found out) given its annual charges against spending ratio, I dont think Regalia is a valuable card for me.

For a normal spender
Amazon Shopper
Occasional Flight Traveler
International Shopping
EMI for electronics/others.

Is my current card ok or shall I look into any other card?
I have accounts in ICICI AXIS SBI and IDBI.

Thanks

I would recommend Amex MRCC & ICICI Amazon Pay

I would suggest to take a look at SBI Cashback card (Rs.999 per annum charges, waived for over 2 lac spends in the year) for online requirements as it gives a flat 5% cash back on most online spends except utilities, rent, wallet recharges, insurance etc. But Amazon/Flipkart/MMT/Cleartrip you will get 5% cashback upto Rs.5000 per month.
Note that this card will not give 10% discount during the mega sales on these websites.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Looks like HDFC has devalued Amazon benefits via the GyFTR platform. Amazon shopping vouchers now have a 2.5% GST markup (3.5% for Amazon pay vouchers). It's still benefical with DCB with a reward rate of 9.6% but this is probably the start of further devaluation !

For DCB, I could not set the add-on PIN online, I had to call customer care who will generate an OTP which needs to be used at an ATM to create the PIN.

Hi,

I have been a long time user of Credit cards and I am just looking for suggestions here if I have any better options than what I carry now -

First up, my household expenses (per month) -

Petrol 5-7K

Groceries 5-10K (partly offline partly online like Instamart, Bigbasket etc)

Online food delivery 3-5K

Eating out 1-5K (depends where am going and with how many folks, but still use cases is less)

Online shopping 3-7K

Movies 1-2K (that too not frequent but when I book it is from Bookmyshow)
What about spends like Insurance Premiums, School Fees, Shopping, Electronics, Hotel or Flight Bookings, Utilities, Phone Bills, Internet bills? People ignore these spends, but these are significant amount of spends annually. Once you have taken a look at these spends, you will realize that your annual spends are much higher than you consider.

HDFC MIllenia also gives 5% cashback on multiple online platforms and it doesn't restrict your card from instant discount during Sale events, wherever HDFC has 10% discount offer. Also, carries 1% cashback on all other except few categories like rent, fuel etc.

I was also using HDFC Times card, requested via email for upgrade to Millenia and lifetime free. They accepted my request and issued the card.

Millenia has a cap of Rs.1000 per month. If that is enough for you, then LTF card should be good to have.

Depending on your usage, if a good portion of it is bill payments, try the Axis Ace card. It offers 5% cashback upto Rs500/month on bill payments (mobile, gas, lpg, electricity, broadband) when done through gpay. On all other spends (online and offline) it offers 2% unlimited cashback which is pretty rare at its segment. All for an annual Rs500 charge.

You are right. i do have once a year expenses like insurance, flights etc. But am not sure it would be prudent to get CCs for each use case, cause then I might end up with too many!!
