Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

Came across this old gentleman putting his hands up (more like ; I surrender, Let me cross ) while crossing busy NH 66 (erstwhile NH17) near Venniyur, Kerala.

Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

This was about 12 years back. I was coming to Pune with my dad for CET exam. On the way, near khed shivapur, our Omni's rear left tyre suddenly flew out into the bushes deep beside the road. Dad went down to get the tyre and then a mechanic. A gentleman from Kolhapur ( some big shot head of bajaj Allianz Kolhapur division) stopped near us as he saw me standing by road reading my book. He was kind enough to not only drop me till Pune, but instructed his driver to drop me at the exam centre.
Such kindness and that too when he himself was late due to the holiday traffic. He stil stopped, offered help.

Sir, if you ever read this, thank you!

Yes, his action are, as you said, I surrender.

Some people also do that to make them more visible to drivers.

He's lucky there wasn't a biker: they don't accept surrenders!

Its quite common here in Pune. I have seen this many times on Pune roads especially with the elderly folks. They either hold their walking stick as a sort of a barrier as soon as they start crossing the road or they raise both of their hands in "I surrender" fashion. I always feel sorry for them and make it a point to safely stop my scooter/SUV to allow them to cross the road safely.

Its one of their ways to forcibly cross the road as Pune two wheeler riders are not known to give the right of way to elderly pedestrians who want to cross the road. And these oldies have seen far better and calmer days on Pune roads in their young age so they quickly get frustrated by the current bullying traffic scenario.

Haha this photo made my day. Don't these guys know that they should atleast sit facing the other way, like we used to sit as kids behind our parents on a scooter enjoying the view behind. Just imagine what will happen to their faces if the driver suddenly applies brakes. The inside of the bootlid will have nice imprints of their faces which you can make plaster cast out of.

A frustrated TUV 300 owner power lifts a D'zire that has been parked in the middle of the road, moves it aside and makes his own path. Happened in Punjab.

Just imagine what would happen to their brains if the driver suddenly brakes and they are facing backward! Oh wait, they haven't got any, or they would never be travelling like that. Yep: let them face back and protect their faces!

God forbid if the driver has to reverse his/her car at some juncture!
I shudder even to think of the possible things that could go wrong ...

Woah! What an idea sirji! The man truly deserves appreciation for his strength and courage. Mahindra can make advertisements for their cars with him.

You should not worry. These are better than any other parking sensor in the market. Just shout "Piche dekho" i.e. "Look back" to activate.

Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

A couple of good-guy auto rickshaw drivers.

The first one: "15 km free ride for cancer patients."
Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road-downloads_00002.jpg

Another one:
I hired an auto rickshaw the other day. The first thing he did after starting the vehicle was turn on a fan for the passenger area and then what he did was surprising. He reached for a seat belt dangling from a post and fastened it before beginning the ride. I asked him about it at the time of paying, and he said "I got it fabricated for safety, sir." I shook his hand before walking off.

Came across this innovative means of transporting truck tyres on two-wheelers today. Cant imagine what would happen if the bike skids!
