Manual fuel lid opener and a manual boot opening mechanism is provided as a backup for all cars and it is generally in the boot for the fuel lid opening. My 12year old Cielo and my 5 year old Scorpio too have it, though I never got a chance to use it.

Coincidentaly enough the pump was located opposite the mahindra xuv showroon and hence these guys might be aware of alternative arrangement.
Was really shocked at the quality of build but i think mahindra was well aware of such possibilty and so provided for a manual backup.

None so far from all that I am reading about XUV niggles. I haven't had this issue anyways.

So folks who have purchased recently, are the niggles still there in the new batched?
I was told a 20 week wait by 2 showrooms, but then I got a call from one showroom that one can be arranged. Haven't gone into details but it might not be a good buy if it is an old lot with lots of issues. Upto what manufacturing date should it be acceptable?
Any inputs on the previous question?

I took two test rides in last two days and I am convinced that XUV is going to be my next vehicle.
I was looking for great fuel efficiency and very high back seat comfort. High resale/ low maintenance was also on my mind. Innova is very good on everything, except mileage, road presence and driving pleasure. XUV has gr8 road presence, decent backseat comfort - and the drive was great. I wondered if it was diesel or petrol!
Car tyres screeched on applying breaks at around 80kmph - which worries me a lot, wasn't ABS working?

Anyways, will get quotes from various dealers tomorrow. Any warning to hold back from purchase will have to come within a day or two

I somehow feel that W8 (2 wheel drive) is not that much value over W6. What do you guys think?

My experience is detailed above. Seems like number of issues have come down significantly. There are still a few. There would be a few. If you need something that is absolutely niggle-free, then XUV is either not for you at all or may be you need to wait for another 6 months to a year (a guesstimate, only Mahindras know how long).

Forget the alloy-wheels and touch-screen ICE, just the ESP and 6 air-bags in the W8 are worth the additional that you pay over W6.

Thanks SDP! This very useful for folks like me. I have booked a W8 a couple of weeks ago and was getting little worried based on JeepSomeday's experience. Based on your inputs and others who have taken delivery after May, the number of issues seems to have come down significantly. I can live with a few minor non invasive niggles but would not want to be stranded due to some issue. I hope Mahindra keeps focusing on QC and ensures most niggles are ironed out. I also would like Mahindra to take special care of the folks who bought early and have, for a lack of better word, struggled. If the top management is committed and response, I believe XUV is going to a great product.

@ ANM - I agree with SDP, the ESP + air bags along with the leather by themselves are worth the additional moolah for the W8.

thanks SDP for the lovely reply. I will use it as a checklist when taking delivery. Though I wonder if they will change if I find an issue?

There is a PDI checklist customized for XUV posted on the XUV official review thread. I had used it for doing a PDI at the yard and found it quite useful. Before the vehicle goes for registration, if you find an issue, you can opt out of taking a delivery of that vehicle. But I doubt, whether they would be able to give you another vehicle immediately.

PS: for easy reference attaching the PDI checklist to this post.

In my case they were able to provide another unit the very next day when I rejected the one allotted to me. It would have been allotted the same day but it was already 7 PM and I insisted on a PDI done in broad daylight. I am talking about an era when XUV was in short supply in November
Feel free to reject if you find any thing unacceptable. They are very accommodating, atleast in my case they were.

I agree with Rohit. No company plans for 100% output of it products. say XUV Plant has a capacity of 4000 units, M&M would ship only 3900 units. They keep some units as stocks for replacements, catering to influential people (who cannot wait in line for thier turn) Press & media vehicles, Publicity at Malls etc. Outside this some vehicles would be taken for rework outside the assemble line owing to internal QC rejections.

If there is a defected vehicle, they are liable to give you a replacement vehicle as the vehicle responsiblity is on company/dealer till you drive the vehicle out of thier premises.

thanks guys.
Rohit - which dealership/ location did you get it from?
I will try to visit their yard to see the car before it comes to the showroom for delivery.

Saw 2 XUVs yesterday night (noticed the diff. number-plates) with LED lights on one side not working.

Anybody else seen this in their own vehicles?

All the Best anm. Please follow the TBHP Checklist. It is mastered and you cannot go wrong if you use one. Please do not "try" but 100% visit the yard. If dealer does NOT allow access to yard, there is something fishy.

SDP Bhai - They are aftermarket license plates available for almost all models of vehicles., where there is a parallel connection from the rear numberplate lamp. This looks okay, but the concern is wires are split and spliced and might void M&M Warranty in case of any issues. Moreover its rainy time in Mumbai and chances of short-circuit are more, in the unlikely event of NOT insulating / taping the wire connection properly.

Owing to recent rains, in Mumbai, I strongly advice against it if you are planning.

Scorpiobharath, I meant the LED lights which are already part of the headlight cluster (I won't call them DRLs, as they are not. Let's just call them the DRL-wannabes ).
I like my cars stock, so no plans of adding anything aftermarket (especially bling items)

PS: I get it now. The confusion is caused by my post itself. I mentioned license plates in my post as I did notice that those were 2 different vehicles (although same color), just to rule out the possibility that I might have seen the same vehicle after 15-20 minutes. Two distinct vehicles with the same problem, spotted 15-20 minutes apart, that surprised me. Was wondering if it is a common problem and whether other BHPians have faced it.

Ah now i get it. Yes i have seen one violet XUV with the right hand side LED cluster not working. I think another contender to add in the niggles thread. I guess M&M would relplace them under warranty.

If you are looking for reliability, resale and low maintenance, Innova is the blind choice. However, if you want a more better looking vehicle with some style elements, XUV it is for you. The ONLY thing you need to keep in mind is the 3rd row of XUV is suited for kids at the best. YOu can seat full-sized adults in the Innova in the 3rd row from here to Le and back without complaint.

Were you able you turn the steering and navigate away when the brakes were applied? If yes, ABS worked. Although, I feel there is only a 0.1% that ABS might not have worked.

Right - Except for 6 air bags in W8 compared to W6, i dont find any feature that you would "miss" in W6.Hill hold, hill descent can be achieved by proper control of clutch and brake. There are niggles reported with electronics in XUV, so the W6 with fewer electronics, theoretically is more niggle free than W8 comparatively. You can always fix Alloys as an accessory.
