Do all vehicle have this dead-zone problem? - I have never noticed this. Also -when I got a brake pad worn out - warning they replaced the front pads - but with Bosch ones. Feel the braking has improved.
How do I get them to fit the new pedal and pads?

Not very sure about if all the vehicles have this dead-zone problem. My vehicle definitely had it. Once I used to start pressing on the brake-pedal, for the first half a inch nothing used to happen. Now with the new brake-pedal, the brakes start biting in as soon as I touch the brake-pedal.

There is no reliable information available in terms of whether Mahindras have already incorporated the new brake pedal in the production batches from a particular date.

I would suggest talking to the RM and asking him to verify if your vehicle has the new brake pedal. You can also take a test ride on one of the older vehicles to see if they feel completely different.

On second thoughts, if you are not really feeling any issues with your brake performance, may be just ignore all this and enjoy your vehicle.

Guys, a strange request -

I have a XUV which I got on the 4th of September 2012. I left for UK on the 15th of September and have not seen the car since then. My family has been using the car and except for the first two services, it has not been to the A.S.S.

But since I left India, a lot has happened with the XUV with respect to recall, part changes as preventive measures, etc. Now, I am coming back to India soon and the first thing I intend to do is - take the XUV to the A.S.S. and get all the nasty or troublesome parts replaced.

Can you guys give me a list of all the issues I should look for, whether it is the brakes or lights or software upgrade of the infotainment system or even synthetic oil for the gearbox. I mean, I want to list out all the items which can probably go wrong and get them rectified once and for all in my car.

A few of the issues I recollect are:

1) Brake grinding noise - change to Galfer brake pads
2) LEDs in headlights going kaput
3) New ORVMs with improved stoppers
4) New wiper blades (recall)
5) Clutch (can someone remind me what the exact issue was!)
6) Software upgrade of Infotainment system
7) Synthetic oil for gearbox
8) Siren touching belt
9) New brake pedals

Got my car on Aug 15th, 2012. So most probably ours would be in the same batch.
General work /replacements done on mine were

1. Brake pads. Checked regarding the brake pedal and the RM mentioned that my batch of cars had the new ones.
2. Front power window motors (both doors)
3. Software upgrade
4.Oil change during the first service
5. Regarding wiper blades, I had replaced the front wiper blades with Bosch ones early itself at a Bosch store. This required removing the big covers over the wipers also. So now the wipers system is just the basic wiper blades, which I believe is lighter and maybe better for the glass. RM mentioned that since I am not using the default wipers right now, nothing to be changed here. So thought I will get it done later sometime when I am there at the service centre in person. Hence am not sure what is the part replaced in the wiper as part of recall.
Just for everyones info: Advantage the guys at Bosch mentioned was that the default ones were one sided model, which meant water will be wiped properly only when it swung upwards. The one I got installed were 2 sided, which meant water would be wiped fully in both directions. Since the comments were made by the authorised Bosch centre, I believe there could be some fact.

5. Multiple wheel alignments (Its far better than the initial days, still I would not say it is perfect)
6. Thud from front left suspension. Sorted out 4-5 months back and so far all the suspensions are good as expected
7. Gear shift was a mess for sometime with difficulty in slotting to 1st, 2nd and reverse gears. Again got it sorted out after a couple of running repair visits to the service centre, to my satisfaction.
9. Some rattling noises when driving - front windows when rolled down 30-50%, the cluster hood above the speedo meter.
8. Power steering hose (as part of recall)
9. Cruise control cluster switch on steering replaced (Dont think it is a common problem)

So your car also most probably would have most of the similar issues plus the car to car specific ones.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Surprised to see the fuel efficiency today morning. In fact it had gone up to 15.8

I was driving with a speed between 50-60 for about 3-4 Kms, with very minimal traffic. The figure was not static and varied later on from 12.9- 14.5

My normal inefficiency in the city is around 11.5- 12 Kms - the car has done 1020 Kms (11 days old though) Lost my fuel receipts, couldn't do the Tank full calculation.

Are these sudden spikes normal?

SDP,
i seem to have missed this niggle on the forum. Could you please elaborate this issue?
I have been noticing that the car rocks sideways a little too much these days, especially for example when one tyre goes in a pothole. it isn't so bad when going straight over a speed breaker. i have added it to my list of to-do things at the ASC. Which is why this one caught my attention when i read it.

Apparently something is up at M&M in terms of redesigning the balancer bar bushes. The moment you mention suspension noise from front, they would replace it. The car behaves better for a few days while going over speed-breakers and through potholes and then you start getting that feeling again.

No idea, if M&M finally cracked it and there is a final design in place. But do get them replaced and see the difefrence.

If you drive in fifth or sixth gear for sometime and the AC temperature and blower speed with respect to ambient temperature will all contribute to the variation in FE. This variation you can see after you have reset the FE calculation by DIS. Not matter how fast have you traveled or how much fuel is consumed, after reset, the calculation will start afresh. If you have not reset, you probably may not see that much variation. By the way, driving in less speed also contributes to less consumption of fuel and DIS take that into consideration.

If you drive @80 in 6th gear for long distance, you will consume less fuel and the FE well be better. You can switch to 6th @60 without any shuddering.

Thanks a lot mate. I also would like to know what did the A.S.S. do to sort out the issue of hard gearshifts.

Thanks to you and SDP, I now have an exhaustive "to-do" list for my car -

1) Brake grinding noise - change to Galfer brake pads
2) New ORVMs with improved stoppers - check it it rubs against door panel
3) New wiper blades (recall) - Yes. Its a small plastic part of the wiper assembly.
4) Clutch - Clutches from initial batches were failing because of leakages and design issues. Not a problem with newer cars. Get a verification done to ensure that your car has clutch from the right batch
5) Software upgrade of Infotainment system - Lots of changes
6) Siren touching belt - Get it replaced or get them to add that clip/tie which ensures that the hooter does not fall down even when the connecting portion breaks.
7) New brake pedals - Yes. This is a must. M&M is tight lipped about this. Insist for it. Along with the new pads, it makes a day and night kind of difference to XUV's braking.
8) Front power window motors - These were part of recall. Not a problem with our batches. But get it verified.
9) Power steering high pressure hose - This was part of recall and replacing it is critical.
10) Check the AC vents (especially second row) - A few don't open. A few others don't get closed completely.
11) Balancer bar bushes - Get them replaced if you are getting some noise from front suspension.
12) Vehicle pulls to the left - Get the alignment done once again.
13) Gear shift was a mess for sometime with difficulty in slotting to 1st, 2nd and reverse gears - Again got it sorted out after a couple of running repair visits to the service centre, to my satisfaction.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

^^ but 6th @60 will still be more FE than 6th @80.

Yep too low a speed and the associated gears with drop FE and 80 in top gear is good but if the aim is to purely save fuel then 60 will be even better.

Keep the AC at a higher temp and keeping the lights switched off too help with FE.

The FE also improves a bit when it is at optimum temperature rather then when Cold at start up.

While on that note, I use the average mileage on the display quite frequently, as a guide to more efficient driving. I wonder why M&M didn't give a realtime fuel consumption display along with the average mileage.
I hope subsequent versions of the software include this addition.

I agree with you here. I too feel this issue specially when you take on a speed breaker sideways. It rocks like anything. Does not happens when u go straight through.

SDP did you get this replaced (balancer bar) in your XUV, if so how is it now? Also do you think this is somehow related to THUD sound coming from front suspension as well or thats another issue?

Its the bushes of the balancer bar and not the balancer bar itself which has been replaced in my car. They have replaced it at least 3 times till now. The car does feel better for a few weeks after replacement, but the khad-khad sound when going over a speed braker or a pothole eventually returns.

Can you share some more details about the THUD sound? When do you get that?

Are all these issues taken care in the current batch of XUV's. I am on the verge of booking (can wait another couple of months though).

The final thought is on the model (W6 vs the W8) since I find only the Alloy wheels & the W8 ICE as my additional requirements over the W6 offering.

Can someone guide me on the cost of replacement of both prior to delivery

Thud sound is when you go over a potholes. It could be that what i refer as Thud sound could be a Khad sound for you
