The total size of the maps is around 100MB. Let me know in case anyone is interested in trying it out. Can upload to any file-sharing site.
I use Tracky with supports offline google maps and pretty accurate. Also it has voice navigation and turn displays even though google directions is not supported. The Chennai maps comes to 25 MB for 0 - 17 Zoom levels.

Only problem I found is that I am not able to copy more than 1000 files for a series like gm_94700_60727_17 ... gm_94772_60733_17. After that it says Read/Write error however I am able to copy more files with different series. Anyone using Track has come across this problem ?

I am using a Nokia 6110 (Symbian Platform). I think Tracky does not works with Symbian Phones.

I think mGMaps is the best Freeware GPS software available for Symbian Platform, with support for various Free map sources, which can be downloaded and saved for Offline use.

Hi Krishna,

You can use gmapmaker to download from Yahoo maps or any other sources and use with MgMaps. But the head-ache is, these sites generally block you after downloading some portion of map.

Somehow i have managed to download the chennai area, including outskirts. Download is on for the entire south-india (Karnataka, Andhra, Tamilnadu and Kerala) which has taken a huge time already and running for more than 24 hours already.

Uploading 100MB of data is not a big deal for me. Let me know in case you are interested.

No. At present mgMaps doesnt support Searching and Turn by Turn Navigation for India.

May be they might add this feature soon.

Yes Tracky can be used only if you have Windows Mobile. Initially I was trying to use MGMaps for offline maps and was not successful and also a pain to use a java applications. After a long time got this software and worked best for offline maps. We can also search google earth for POI and use them with Tracky.

I think Mapmyindia uses Navigator software. SatGuide uses Destinator 7.

In that case it makes sense to get a GPS device which has Windows CE running.
Mapmyindia map software runs on any windows CE 5 device

I know only about chinese 100-150$ windows CE powered PNDs
Not much into brands.
In known names Holux makes them.
Infact you can get a Windows mobile phone with integrated GPS(Asus, HTC etc., make these)

Holux 53C Life is available in India, but at an astronomical price of 9990.
Its a very good company, among the best in GPS business.
I think you can get this in the US for around 120-130$

This using runs Windows CE 5.0 and you should be able to use most softwares on this one
