your FE seems to be very good and im quite surprised u get that figure in delhi traffic. 14 is more like a highway FE for an ohc.

Engine Mounts Change

When do you know its time to change the engine mounts ?

I have been getting the juddery feel whenever i start moving from 1st gear. only way to avoid it is to give some throttle input.

when i saw a friend of mine start my car and take it from 1st, i could see that the front was showing some vibrations when you merely leave the clutch to move forward ( without giving any accelerator inputs )

i also notice that with the a/c on, i can sense that the vibrations are higher. there is even a noticeable vibration of the hood.

do all these indicate the engine mount has packed ?

its a 1.5 OHC. 2001. done 85k

@Narayan,
First check the engine mountings as whether they are loose or not. If so get them tightened.
Also for the bonnet vibration, you can avoid the vibration to some extent by pasting the cello tape(Black tape used for wire insulation) on the inside part of the clamp(U shaped below bonnet), which holds the bonnet with the body.

New engine mounts would cost around 7K.

All,

I have a OHC 1.5Exi AT bought second hand at around 74k, currently it has done 78k. I finally got around to overhauling the car - Suspension, O2 sensor, headlights and Underbody corrosion check. Ended up spending nearly 35k on all this and the result of all this is that I have a nice AT car to drive around the city comfortably :-).

Here is the spare parts cost in case anyone else is looking for over hauling there OHC. I did all this in a private garage over here in Chennai, so the prices are not the A.S.S ones - but the parts are either Genuine or equivalent to OE ones.

Timing belt - 1300
RHS drive shaft - 6500
Tie rods/Ball joints - 2200
O2 sensor - 4300
Underbody treatement - 3000
Headlight upgradation to 100/90 with relay - 5000.
Bosch wiper blades - 350.

Upgradation should not cost you more than 1.5K Rs inlcuding wiring + relay + bulbs(100/90 ).
5K seems pretty higher.
What bulb have you put ? Did you change the headlamp assembly ?
Else the pricing is too much

@ partha379 : Is that the rate for both left and right headlight assemblies together or just one of the two ?

My exhaust pipe is rusted.
I think the portion which is below the rear seat / foot area.

Asked welder - he can't do a patch work job.
Looks like I have to buy a new one - any idea about how much a new one will cost?

I have got my car's silencer patch work done many times.
Heck the silencer got broke yesterday evening.
Pic is when my silencer got broke sometime back. One can see the patch work done previously at the left side 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more-sushruth-038.jpg
OEM silencer 3 piece unit costs 22K when i enquired last time.

Get an FFE done. It would cost you half the price and the engine will be healthy.
