Got the VSS error fixed by Honda but it turns out the vtec issue wasn't caused by it. The diagnostic device still shows vtec solenoid as "off".

So i don't know since when the vtec has been disabled. Prob why i didn't feel any drop in performance even after the vss error, came up.

Will get the solenoid cleaned first and do an oil pressure check if needed.

What is the diagnostic device used ?
So if vtec conks off it will not turn on the engine check light ?

Except the "by the seat of your pants" method, is there any other way ?
Will vtec kick in if we rev the engine (meaning while being stationary)

IMO Except for the entu of the rpm meter needle and the kick in the back, engine note does't change that much. Yeah yeah the you tube video's but most of them are DOHC not SOHC as in "our" OHC Vtec.

I've been told that MIVEC changes the tone dramatically.

So any ideas anyone ?

Will have to make a few adjustments, nothing major.

Well, the VTEC is working now. I had disconnected the battery for 2 days. Maybe that did the trick.

VTEC activates at 5500rpm but the transition is very smooth and cannot be detected by ear.

Heres a vid of my car revving. I went WOT at around 4000rpm.

And heres a vid of the VTEC solenoid switching on.

Another case of Self Healing huh ?

Should't the thingy activate at 4200 rpm ? (or something like that)

What is the device shown in the video ?

Yup. Might have been a minor ECU glitch, which the battery trick solved.

VTEC activation can alter depending on the conditions.

Don't rem the name. Its a small hand held device which is compatible with all makes.

Is it ? I did't know. Any clue what the parameters are ?

Is there is a OBD scanner port for the OHC / OHC Vtec ?
If so where is it located ? Any idea what port it is ?

I was told there was none. So a bit confused.

Anyway good to know the kick is back

Thanks Pranav. In the list which one will be the "Indian Spec" Vtec or rather the closest one to it ?

86-98 Civic ?
If so there seems to be an error code (21-22) for Vtec.

B15C2 is the Indian spec, correct ?
Googling did't turn up much useful info. :(

First column doesn't matter. Just use the code and the description.

Long flashes are for tens. 2 long flashes = 20. Short flashes are for units. 2 short flashes = 2.
2L2S = 22.

So 1-9 = corresponding number of short flashes.

It uses a "Honda 3 Pin" port which is located behind the center console. Here an image of the adapter - http://www.emrelpg.com/arizatespitci...nConnector.jpg

I'm searching for a few diagnostic softwares on the net, which will let me connect my laptop to the cars ecu, so that i can keep a track of the various parameters without having to take my car to the garage.

VTEC activation depends on lots of factors. Engine temp, oil pressure, engine speed, vehicle speed, load, throttle position, O2 sensor readings etc etc....

Revving the car in neutral will also not activate vtec. So whatever throttle response you see when your wheels aren't rolling, is done entirely by the low profile cam lobes.

Shot this when my car was bone stock, with just the end can removed. No vtec lobes were used in the making of this video. LOL

2003 model OHC - 1.3Dx

I too have an 2003 model OHC, it is in fact a 1.3L model (1.3DX). But it is not driven very much. In fact it is almost fresh from the showroom. 7 years and the car has only 10187kms till date!! So, does my City really qualify for this thread? I think not, but still here are my two bits:

1. Max speed you have achieved
130kmph; though If my parents were not with me, I would have pushed her still further.
2.Fuel efficiency - city, highway, overall.
City: 12kmpl
Highway: 15kmpl
Overall: ~13kmpl
3.Problem prone areas of the car.
With such a low mileage on clock, there are really no major problem areas. Battery conked off and changed thrice in these 7 years because of non usage for many days. But apart from that, no issues at all.
