History: Last monsoons when I was driving back from work, I went through big puddles and water logged roads. Ever since then, I started getting a not-so-nice-sound from under the hood, it was like a belt running hard, or metal grinding. I thought the belts would dry up and be ok, but then it was sheer ignorance since the sound was negligible.

Night before yesterday, my OHC suddenly gave out a constant screeching belt noise (cheeeee) and I could smell hot rubber from the A/C duct (Air con was on).

Then the car lost RPM and stalled.. I waited a few seconds since we could smell burning rubber smell and possible visual smoke from under the hood and tried to crank, it didn't. Waited another moment and cranked, it started but with a dead RPM and same screeching and died. I opened the hood to smell rubber; lots of friction and saw light smoke from the area marked in the picture.

Since I was stuck on the road (and wife was along) I decided to drive the car back home if it started since it was about 500 m from there. The car drove ok except for the smell and smoke and sound.

When I parked, there was a lot of smoke from under the hood, opened it and let is cool off. I suspect the alternator belt, what could be the problem? And can I drive it to the workstation, which is about 5-6 kms away.

I think it must be water which came into contact with hot engine and turned into steam.

This is the first time im hearing of such an issue on the OHC. Your best bet is to take the car to a Honda dealership and get it checked.

I've seen cars with slipping belts but smoke coming out might mean something a bit more serious. Maybe some rotating part has just given up/got jammed causing excessive friction between it and the belt.

sorry for the mistake. But it could be an issue with alternator or compressor jamming .

I had a similar issue with my m800 few year ago .while driving i noticed smoke under bonnet.there was a malfunction with cooling system and coolant was spilling out from the coolant box and which came into contact with engine and produced steam.

Thanks guys, it's indeed a jamming issue.

The A/C idle pulley was stuck, the belt was moving on top of it causing the sound and smoke.

Have sent for replacement!

The replacement for drive shaft is anything between Rs 7500 - 9000/-
which is the whole unit.
I did both mine and it came to 17K.

Got mine for 4400. Labor was 1k I guess. Brilliant, tried and tested by others in different cars too.

Yes, it's not OE but a well reputed aftermarket brand "MB". The manufacturer is knows to us as well, so no issues with quality.

You can't hit 100kmph in the first 2 gears.

1st redlines at 58kmph and 2nd at 98kmph.

100 comes in at :

4500-4600rpm in 3rd.

3400-3500rpm in 4th

2700-2800 in 5th.
