The one thing irritating me however is that because I am getting the lights from America, the headlights have these silly orange reflectors on the sides I guess their regulations mandate these orange side markers but I am very apprehensive about how it will end up looking.
The American headlamps have a different beam pattern from RHD vehicles.
Tail lamps from 03-08 are the same.

Oops I completely forgot to take that into account. Can the beam pattern be adjusted or are the reflectors itself setup differently for RHD? Depending on this I should quickly figure out a different source for headlights or stick with the same if they can be adjusted.

The beam pattern is not adjustable as the reflectors are different.
If the reflectors on your car are ok and only the lens is bad, you can buy replacement lenses. Part numbers are 84990SA020 and 84990SA030

This word coming from someone who's first car is an E class is a testimonial for how good the Forester is.
Are the headlamps simply dirty from outside or is there fogging from inside?

In terms of ride and composure, the Forester punches way above its paygrade. Specially in low grip/ bad surface conditions.

Yes it has been delivered in the US. Will be getting it in September.

The E350 is great and I absolutely love it on the freeway. The Forester shines through in the twisties. I took the old Khandala highway just to enjoy the drive.
Since my other two cars are automatic I have been wanting to get a manual ever since I sold my other beauty (Mitsubishi Cedia). Forester fits the bill perfectly!

The left headlight has slight fogging. Need to get the rubber housing/sealant replaced. In the pictures it's just dirt.

Re: Forester Owners: Servicing?

Friends, I was leaving my Forester in the workshop to get few parts fixed (which I had got from US during my visit). Mechanic has pointed out that the 'front lower arm bush' has gone and it requires replacement. Before going ahead with sourcing it online, I wanted to check if anyone knows if it can be sourced in India.

You can call all the old Chevrolet dealers as some might have spare lying around and would give them at a huge discount (will still be very expensive), then there's Mars in mumbai raj981's contact. That said, having replaced so many parts in my car using a whole bunch of permutations and combinations when it comes to where they've been sourced, I would say that if you aren't in a rush, it is always cheaper to source the part yourself from abroad.

List has grown now :(
  1. Lower Arm Bushing
  2. Tie End Ball joint
  3. Clutch Line
Water pump wasn't replaced when I got the timing belt changed. May be I should add that to the list?

No issue has been noticed so far. But I had read that it is a common practice to replace the water pump along with the timing belt.

Yes, if you are changing the belt and tensioner it wouldnt hurt to change to a new pump. The old take off can always be retained as a spare if the vanes are ok and its not leaking.

Re: Forester Owners: Servicing?

Hi Forester owners, I am eyeing a Forester for future purchase. What would be the key points to watch out for. There are few threads for international market, but would be great to have one for Indian landscape too. Just capturing few as examples :

1. Check for Engine light on - if yes, then what to look out for.
2. what to check in 4WD system.
.. so on

Thanks!!
