Thank you. Finally parts arrived and got this replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the write up on the upgrades! Which update are you referring to? I just got the second free service done at my nearby Nexa centre but they didn’t mention any update. What does the update do?

There was a recall for our cars, manufactured till October 2020. Official communication:

As a responsible corporate, keeping in mind customer safety, Maruti Suzuki India Limited today announced to proactively undertake a recall of some petrol variants of Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6. This is to inspect for a possible defect in 181,754 units of these models manufactured between 4th May 2018 to 27th October 2020

In my car, they changed the ISG and updated the APU module(Lithium Ion Battery). It has resulted in increased boost time, increased Idle stop time, quicker battery charging and thus better mileage by almost 1-1.5kmpl. More details here: Link to ISG change (My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review)

I'm barely using the XL6 these days due to some other commitments, plus the 800 needs some running too. Still this is the MID readout I captured yesterday:

The update has surely helped in increasing the pep and efficiency.

Shashi

Thanks, Shashi! That explains why I didn’t get the recall notice. Mine is an Aug 2021 manufactured vehicle. The boost is available only until the battery goes down to 2 bars. It cuts off after that.

I have not seen any difference with respect to fuel efficiency after the ISG change. Also idle stop time is max 3 mins which is same as earlier. Is n't it?

Did you get the ECM update done or was it just the ISG change?

Leoshashi, do you have the file for the latest software update?

My mum's car (XL6 Alpha) just returned from its service, but she forgot to mention the software update to the SA. She doesn't want to send it back so soon.

The last update done was with the file you linked here in the forum sometime back.

Thanks,
Adhil

After the ISG update for my Ertiga Automatic, most apparent change I felt was change in "gear shift" timing. Maybe the ECU mapping is changed.
Although mine is Automatic, change in gear is felt. Due to the update, first to second gear change seems to be at lower rpm, which gives a smoother and peppier feel.
Mileage wise, the Average mileage display can't be reliable because it depends on how much fuel is present in the tank to calculate the average. Better way to check is full tank to full take after running around 50-60kms. I am yet to do this

I am not sure about this one. How can I validate? Is there anyway? I did not ask SA and he also did not mention anything to me at that time.

Not sure which file you need, the one for ISG update or Head Unit. Either way, I'd request you to get it done via MASS. Last time many people did themselves, some of them perhaps missed the steps or did something wrong, and ended up with bricked headunits which Maruti didn't cover under warranty for obvious reasons that their car didn't have any record of coming to MASS for update.

For this same reason, I didn't put the file here this time. Hence request you to visit MASS for the job.

I've found the MID reading to be fairly accurate.

Hey,

I am from Bangalore too, I can certainly tell that there is indeed a difference post update of the auxiliary module (Lithium ION) charging system. The vehicle recharges the Lithium ION battery much quicker and it holds the charge longer when not in use (Idle). Earlier it used to discharge quickly at idle state; say at a stop light with longer wait time with ICE and AC in use. I have also noticed that boost (Assist) now kicks in earlier in economy (Green) driving range as well, there by significantly contributing to a better FE. I must admit that I have also learned how "A" pedal sensitive our XL6 is, slightest heavy foot will hit the FE like no ones business. So you have to be always easy on "A" pedal if you want better FE to a liter. Over All its a marginal increase about 1kmpl FE is my honest observation.

PS: No change to the maximum A.S.S it is still about +/- 3 mins

This is an important step without auxiliary module ECU update you will not notice any difference, in terms of all the observation I have listed above.

You need to check your job card - it includes two service circular items

D23C/2021 and D69/2021

First one is for ISG (MGU) part replacement, the second one is ECU update for auxiliary power module. Hope this helps.

Sharing a pic where they had mentioned those two circular details in my bill:

Thank you both. Unfortunately this is not mentioned in my invoice.
Fed up with Suraksha, Bommanahalli, Bangalore. The experience is becoming bad with the series of misses from their side.

Wouldn't blame them entirely, as MSIL had perhaps halted the software update part after first few days of recall. BHPian Madtiger had got just ISG replaced at Bangalore, while he got the Software update done later after some coaxing. I strongly believe you should get the software updated too, if they haven't done.

Shashi

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

Small Update: The XL6 completed 18,500 km on the odo last week.

Impromptu Breakfast drive: There's this Hotel Panchwati on Ranchi-Jamshedpur highway which is a frequently visited place whenever me and my friends wish to have a longish drive and some good food. It's essentially a dhaba but the food served is beyond words. This time, decided to take my parents for a breakfast drive which they eventually loved. Also paid a visit to the famous Sun Temple, Bundu.
