Re: Asterix, my 2021 Force Gurkha | The adventure begins

Didn't mean to hijack your thread but few of us were out with supercars for a drive when at a traffic light my friend's Ferrari 488 came side to side with a Gurkha. Thought of sharing the picture here

I remember watching this exact situation in some video long ago explaining the need for mechanical locking diffs and stating that you cannot be called an off roader without 4x4 and mechanical diffs.

- Me too, that would be amazing, even in the video you shared the difference of driving down from the top while the Endeavour and 700(looked like a van from the side) owners having to park and walk was clearly highlighting the capabilities of Asterix.

Hahaha good point. Yes before attempting the climb i had asked a local about it and he said that cars go halfway up through a steep section that opens up to some flat ground. Post this people park their cars and walk.

I winked and told him this wasn't just any "car". Once we got to the flat ground on top i i saw that the Endeavour and Xuv 500 had parked up and its occupants had alighted. We just chugged along and infact it was almost embarrassingly easy to reach the top.
One just had to choose a good line so that the rocks jutting out in the middle of the path did not touch the low positioned bash plate of the Gurkha.

The strong Radar Renegade RT+ tyres also added to my confidence here.

On another note i had gone to CP for an errand and had parked up behind this Scorpio. Now most people are well aware of and used to the size of the Scorpio. So it should be easy to imagine the Gurkhas size after studying the pic below.

P.S. I wonder what those two guys in the background are upto? Looks like a disagreement of some sort.

- that's quite surprising I thought something was wrong in the pics but then I saw the complete mechanism.

- Thanks for the comparison pics, really helpful, I couldn't believe the pics with the Endeavour and G-Wagen
If you come across a Harrier/Safari do take a comparison pic if feasible.

- Could've something to do with stairs next to them

Hi Manuuj, can you share your feedback on stock head light unit of the Gurkha? Are you happy with the throw of light (both high and low) on highways?

Many people on the Facebook group and Instagram have also said that the photograph is morphed! ..Or that the size difference is accentuated as the Fortuner is way ahead of Asterix. If one looks at the shadows it is apparent that the shadow of the cars are almost adjacent. I was actually in the process of overtaking the Fortuner when this pic was taken by a fellow bhpian.

The stock headlights of the Gurkha are adequate. They aren't super strong but not weak either. The projector LED fog lamps that i installed are much stronger. When the car was driven from the showroom in Mandi to Delhi i had an extensive night drive on the highway and found the headlights to be good even though they weren't alligned properly at the time.

On another note Asterix had full floor, doors and side panels damping done yesterday. Also had the rear speakers replaced with Morel Components. I will make a separate post for that.

The good thing is that unlike the Thar which comes with no sound deadening material on the floor the Gurkha does come with a really good amount of sound deadening material on the whole floor and also some decent stuff behind the door pads. All this stock sound deadening material was also re-applied to Asterix once the Dampmat and sound absorber had been applied. One can see the stock sound deadening material lying on the roof along with the rear interior trim panles.

More on this in my next post..

Thanks for the Meme bro! Cracked me up!

Took off for a picnic today since it was my dads birthday. The area is well known by many as Leopard Trail between Gurgaon and Manesar. I even saw a Bhpian with his Thar there today. He had a Live To Drive sticker so am assuming the person i saw was a Bhpian.
Unfortunately i only saw the sticker when he was driving away from me so i couldn't say hello.

At one point we saw a rutted muddy path with a steep drop off going off towards a small lake. Since we were in Asterix it was the easiest decision to get off the main road and onto the beaten track to the mini lake.
Just to be safe i engaged 4Low and eased of and let Asterix do all the work. My dad was super impressed with the way Asterix made a pretty gnarly looking rutted track seem like childsplay.

Here are some pics from our excursion today. It was an overcast day so the light wasn't the best for photography.

When you pull up next to a DTC Bus in a Gurkha and are at eye level with the bus driver!

Re: Asterix, my 2021 Force Gurkha | The adventure begins

Here is a short video clip of the Gurkha in congested city lanes. It is mainly to demonstrate the ease by which one can maneuver the Gurkha. One can also hear the level of engine sound of the Gurkha that is audible in the cabin with windows up. I think its quite acceptable now especially after the damping has been installed.

Would be very grateful for new subscribers

The sound damping is quite good! Even the car doesn't have the stock squeaks common to most body on frame SUV.
One suggestion: get the bonnet area Matt wrapped. The amount of reflections from a flat, shiny hood is disturbing, especially during low angled sunlight or high beams.

Re: Asterix, my 2021 Force Gurkha | The adventure begins

I am yet to make a detailed post on the sound damping work carried out on Asterix. I forgot to get the technical specifications of the damping used so haven't compiled my post yet.

In the meantime i went and got custom noodle mats made up for Asterix today. The stock mats are held down with locking pins and are not easily removable. As a result its quite a chore to clean them. Being black they show up dust and mud immediately after use.

I went in for beige black noodle mats and had them cut to fit Asterix. Also had the edges stitched with a black leatherette material to give it a clean look.

The steering and back logo also got completed today with the ring around it. Chose to go with the same silver color for the ring as the Khukri was in.

Lastly Asterix is now doubling up as a billboard for my fledgling YouTube channel.

Hi Manuuj, sorry if you've mentioned it in earlier posts but could you share the location of the place from where you've got these custom mats?
