Shan2nu
hehe shan,
then you will have to wait for almost an year .as there will be no 1.6 or JTD till 2006.
about the 87 bhp car,it is definitely better than an overpriced 77bhp ugly car .

LOL

In any case, 87 bhp is pretty useful power for most users. Not sure how many people will miss those 2-3 seconds to 100 kmph, but I'm betting its less than 1% of prospective buyers.

Great Performance!!

Finally took a test drive of Swift (vxi w/o abs).

The dealer(ALLIANZ, SDA) had two demo vehicles, so waiting time was lesser compared to other jam-packed showrooms.

Now i am not going to waste too much of time talking about interiors and exteriors, as much of it has been discussed already in this forum.

My only concern prior to driving it was PERFORMANCE, after reading some feedback from some members here.

So here i go:
Started the engine, no noise what so ever. 10 times silent then my wagonr. Turned on the AC. Very effective ac with minimum blower noise. Although i must add, the inside cabin noise not quite as good as other cars in this segment/price range. Maybe the quality of the window glasses had to do something with it. I could hear noises of trucks and buses even after rolling all the Windows up.
Put the gear into first, released the cluth, and here it goes effortlessly croosing 30. Put second, a bit slower than the first, but FAST none the less. takes me to 50+ and i shift to 3rd. The fun starts and within no time speedo reaches 85+, and i am like thinking..is there any speedo error or what, because i was feeling i am driving it in 40!..LOL.. so stable!.
All this in no time. Reminded me of a drive of my friend's octavia tdi. Ok ok i am not comparing tdi to Swift, but the lower end response in swift is JUST AMAZING!... Who said its underpowered??.. Infact, i think its more fun to drive than Esteem with its short throw Gears..
Makes you feel you are driving a sports car. The breaks are good but not extraordinary. The rear seat drive was a bit bumpy though(compared to Palio that is).

Man.. My wagonR felt like a TRUCK after driving Swift!

A Hyundai Tornardo guy was looking to have some fun with the little swift at a junction. My eyes lit up!.. and here i put the sporty little car and press the accelerator.. and vrooooooom.. it goes, leaving poor guy gasping for breath!.. ha ha.. had some fun...

And tell you a secret: All this with the AC ON!

All in all, this car clearly out performes Zen, WagonR, Santro, Ford 1.3, Getz, Accent ,Indica, Palio 1.2, Corsa, NHC. I dont think anyone can challenge my claim if one has test driven it himself.

MAN I WANT ONE!!

making the car sluggish
NC who said the car is sluggish.. its 135kgs heavier then an Esteem and in straight line acceleration it will be on the tail of the Esteem all along being just 0.11 slower then the Esteem to a Ton. But the Esteem is faster then the Baleno till 100 that means the Swift is on par with the Baleno till 100. But after 100 its the Baleno who pulls away whereas the swift will swiftly tailing the Esteem. But when it comes to a corner the Esteem will be scared to death and the swift will go swiftly through it and the swift will brake way better. Infact the swift is way faster then the Getz. The Getz is not in the same competition. All this i am saying after reading ACIS report on the swift. The car has the same engine as the Esteem but after being very finally tuned by Maruti. Infact the Swift is way faster then all its rivals. Though Palio 1.6 is not being considered. But that will soon be considered when the Palio will be left dry thanx to the Swift 1.6 I am wating for that day when the swift beats the hell out of the Palio.

DOHC 1.6 litre

Maybe its 87BHP but its still fast and at that price to features comination nothing beats it. I am sure Shan there is alot to test this car. Get a testdrive and you will know what i am talking about.

Me too..

performance figures are comparable to the NHC
NHC is no way near to the swift in any area except interior and rear legroom and boot ofcourse..

For a car like the Swift, it'll have to be whatever figures the Swift 1.6 can throw.

I never enjoyed driving the NHC either. And i probably wont like it even with a 100+bhp engine onboard.

Driving a car with less power makes you a better driver as you don't have that reserve power to help you out when you make a mistake. I know, I used to own an first gen engined Astra for many years, but could still outdrive every OHC I came across. No jokes, no exaggeration.

For me, the way a car handles is far more important that mere peak horsepower figures. Unfortunately I see too many people who discard a great car simply because if appears to lack power on paper. "oh the TDi has only 90 bhp" or "the swift has only 87bhp". Peak horsepower is nothing. Its all about how it is spread out. After extended driving in the Corolla with 125hp, I can safely say that the 90bhp TDi will outperform it everywhere except a drag strip. And we all know its the corners where the fun is. Any idiot can do 190kmph down a long straight!

So to conclude, and I have said this before, I just can't wait to get my hands on the Swift. It just seems so right. It's one of those cars that you know is done right, even before seeing the darn thing in the flesh! The only other car that comes close here is the defunct Palio 1.6GTX, but lets not go down that road again.

Blimey!!! You stole the words right out of my head. The exact same words!

I had to break my silence just to say this.

so true...and those who want to shave off the extra seconds, they can always go for mods... and the car handles well enough to take any sort of power given to it...

i agree, if you know what i mean... he..he...

no, but i hear it's on the cards...not in the near future, though.... and i hope i can bring all you bhpians an exclusive on that, too.....

errr.....montoya, i didn't have the official figures then, so i was simply speculating.... i was stunned when i saw the figures too... maybe since the car didn't feel like it was accelerating at that rate of knots to me, i miconstrued, and thought that the figures were comparable to that of the city.... remember, it was a scoop drive, and i didn't have a VBOX-racelogic-III with me, yaar....sorry for the inappropriate comparo there.... i shall definitely be more careful in the future...

and i'll be waiting to flag you off....he..he.... but to be honest, i feel the swift might take the cake; maybe by the slightest of margins.... don't mean to underrate the 1.6 gtx- it's a great, nay, an excellent hatch, and i L-O-V-E it too, but the odds, i feel, are stacked in the swift's favour; unless fiat launches the new redesigned and facelifted palio, with a retuned 1.6 engine......

and rtech and ported head.....i couldn't agree more......
