Dude have you test driven it?

If not, i suggest you do. Even i used to think that it is underpowered, but after driving it, even wagonR felt like a Truck.

And forget NHC, it has the potential to smoke out Hyundai Tornardo/Ikon1.6..

And i am not exaggerating. Go check it out for yourself.

even i found the car a bit slow in bigger gears and the gears like every maruti vehicle are toooooooooo tall 2nd gear good for 100 3rd goes upto 140 and i got 165 in 4th gear,i found 5 th gear unresponsive at slower speeds that makes for more than average gershift.brakes are great for a car of this segement and i drove the gxi variant with abs and was impressed with the pinpoint staright braking at 160kmph.....everything else is great and best in class, that automatic ac gives a real premium feel to this small car

Seen the Swift in Inorbit for display. Was green in color. The paint quality seemed very good. Interior plastic and design was good enough although the center console seemed a little plain. The alloys didn't even have caps on it. Interior space seemed too less. Rear seats "looked" cramp, which is why I didn't bother to sit in. Boot space also "looked" as good as the Indica's. Apart from the cramped rear space, I had no issues with this car.

i m really sorry its zxi thats only a typing mistake,i took the test drive when i was on hisar(haryana)tour,i took the car to 15kms and back thanks to the friendly staff at hisar automobiles(maruti dealer),i also tried brakes (abs variant) at 160 kmph, actually the car crossed 160kmph,flatout acceleration is really amazing for a car with just 1300cc engine.the second gear gets to 100 with ease.

neat pic, anshuman..... pretty good, considering you were doing 100 miles an hour..(he..he..)..

and yes, the top speed of the swift exceeds 160, 165 kmph to be precise (source-O.D); and that's the actual figure- the speedo reading shows 170 kmph+.....all in a stock, 15 km run-in swift...!!! a 10,000 km run swift could manage 180 kmph (on the speedo) with ease....

and the figures are actually better than the esteem- didn't believe it until i saw the official figures myself... and dude, i don't think the swift does 100 kmph in 2nd gear- i revved till 6200 r.p.m, and the max i could manage was 94-95 kmph... the gearshift felt sporty to me, not smooth, with the right amount of feel; shifting feel is similar to rally-spec baleno, & lacks the ultra-smooth rubbery feeling of the esteems and zens... great for enthusiasts..

dceite...right again...but i think the swift already out-accelerates the tornado gtx and the ikon 1.6 (0-100; swift-12.9, accent gtx tornado 1.6-13.2, ikon 1.6-13.7---- quarter mile, stock;-swift- 18.82 @ 118.1 kmph, tornado- 19 sec, ikon- 19.4 sec;-- figures, courtesy O.D ). plus, the swift has (much) better handling than both, so.... the only area that swift loses out, is in top speed... but that can be more than made up by mods, unlike the others....

Here are some high quality pics of the Suzuki Swift in Inorbit, Malad. Very high profile tyres and seven-spoke alloys. The tail-lights look plain red, the lines are not all that visible from a distance, you can see it faintly in the pic because of the low flash. No interior pics.

I think with some mods, mentioned by veryon1..the Swift should easily be a good track and street performer. I mean, seriously, where are u gonna use a lot of power in india..the streets are crowded with preety much EVERYTHING known to man, traffic is a mess most of the day, etc. Personally if i got the Swift, i'd get the Zxi in either blue or red, throw a K&N on it, maybe a free flow exhaust, a decent Stereo system, and a couple of other things, and i'd be set. It looks like a fun city runabout, and from reading this thread and other reviews, it seems it fulfills that job just right. I think some nice lightweight 16" rims would fit quite nicely in those wheel wells, with a slight lowering job

great pics, gordon.... which cam did you use??

rightly said, caliatenza- but more power never hurts, even if you don't use it, he..he...

well, a D-E-T-A-I-L-E-D test drive on the forum should be available once somebody gets his swift......

Well lowering wont help here since the car will scrub the ground and 16inch wheels will ruin the ride of the car.. went for a test drive today and putting up my views.. in some time..

Suzuki Swift Test Driven

OK here goes my test drive.. after 10 phone calls and virtually blasting maruti to send the car they send it 2 and a half hours later.. just goes to show that once the car starts to sell they forget you.. if you ask for a baleno then it will rush and come since it aint selling.. anywayz car send was a Vxi without ABS they tell me that there is only Vxi non ABS for test drive and thats what Maruti has given them.. he convinces me that ABS is not required at all.. and you only need it when braking from 160 - 0. finally get into the car.. car looks stunning.. Interiors could have been better.. lack of MID sad.. Lack of clock more sadder.. Rear seat pathetic.. front seats good.. boot just OK.. anywayz there were 3 people Maruti send for the test drive.. i mean 3 maruti officials.. had to get 2 out in order for others to fit..

There i start the car and at idle hardly makes any noise.. take her out on the road and the maruti guy tells me that check the brakes.. and i stand on them and cars locks patheticly causing a skid and then the Maruti official shuts his mouth forever.. the burning rubber smell was there through out the test drive.. anywayz then i move on reach palm beach.. and floor her full throttle.. car feels a biut sluggish.. and is way too noisy and you can come to know that this is a esteem engine and you feel its detuned.. i shift into second and floor her when the ECU cuts me off at 7000RPM and i shift into third.. and then fourth and fifth reach 130 brake and then take her in fifth from 100 at 120 i feel she is giving up atleast thats what i felt with 4 people on board and the AC on at 4.. The car feels quite sluggish when loaded and performance doesnot feel like the Esteem at all and the ride is very bumpy.. stability the best in all the marutis i have seen so far but not the best the car starts to vibrate at excess of 130 and i took her max to 140 since the engine was giving up and i wasnot getting the inspiring feel to take her further... though people call a NHC underpowered but thanx to her superb gearing she didnot feel like the swift.. i have taken NHC from 80 - 160 in 5th when same amount of people were in it and she went without any hassles unlike the swift which was coughing..

Brakes are pretty good for a non ABS car.. but hopefully ABS would be better. I dont get the point of such tall gearing which loses out on drivabilty and you will have to constantly downshft to 1st or 2nd since the 3rd gear is nothing to talk about..

As Ajmat has said in his test drive the motor wakes up only after 4000RPM is true and Shan said that 1.3 is boring i agree to that and now i am wating for the 1.6.. till then no thoughts of buying the swift.. and yeah i felt that the Palio is better in terms of stabilty and handling and the Palio 1.6 will smoke the Swift in terms of performance.. the swift motor just seems to be sooooo slow in waking up that by the time you reach 4000RPM she screams for you to shift when she actually wakes up and yawns at you..

Infact if you happen to pass by NRI colony on Palm beach you will see tyre marks left by me once in a Corolla and now in a swift..

Verdict - Car highly overated only cause its from a Maruti Stable..
